Both Pep Boys and Auto Zone will do a FREE check engine light analysis. I find Pep Boys to be more thorough and also cross references w/online info., to provide a more detailed and even further possibility of cause and likely solution(s). In addition to the codes (a combination of #'s and letters), they provide the meaning of the code, what the problem could be and ways to possibly solve it. Auto Zone simply plugs in a hand-held analyzer and provides you with the codes and nothing else. Good luck to you!.

A malfunction in either the performance or emmissions system has been detected. Have your vehicle scanned with an OBDII scanner to retrieve the trouble codes. AutoZone and other parts stores will scan free of charge if the check engine light is lit.

With the vehicle off, press the odometer button and move the ignition key to accessories until the light goes off. Release odometer button.

1. turn key to Pos I

2. Hold in the odometer reset button while turning key to Pos II and continue to hold in the button until the 'service engine light begins to blink'

3. Once it blinks 3 times, return key to Pos 0 (I removed key *optional*)

4. Service Engine light should be reset now - start the car up to verify the 'Service Engine light' is reset.

* from previous posts I wasn't sure if after the blinking you just start the car or return the key to Pos 0, so i thought i'd post this to clarify. Also at the blinking stage, the light will continue to blink, i think i counted 6 or 7 times. Not sure if you have to catch it on the 3rd blink or not, but I did and got the light to reset.

The PCM commands the EGR to open and close and monitors the action via a pintle position sensor. That sensor is no longer functioning. In most cases, this problem can also be fixed by replacing the EGR valve.

Drive it to the mechanic. You have something wrong and that is what the car is telling you. Oil, water, something is not right.

It depends on what generation civic you are referring to. The older hatchbacks require you to turn off the car and remove the hazard and ecu fuses for about 10 secs. These fuses are usually located under the hood on the passengar side near where the passenger struts bolts in. You will know that the reset is successful on these older hatchbacks if you lift up the carpet from the passenger side underneath the glovebox where the passenger's feet rest. There you will see a small circular glass with an led behind it. If it's not blinking red you're good to go. If it is..then it's time to count the number of blinks and translate with a car repair manual (haynes/chilton).

It's a courtsy light, so that you can see as you gather your belongings. Many cars are doing that now. There is usually a switch or some kind of setting to turn that feature off. Check the owners manual to see if you can turn off the automatic dome light functions.

There are too many codes (5) and the causes and possible repairs to list here due to copyright laws. First: locate the test connector on the passenger side of the engine compartment above the spring housing on the right fender lining. It is a small white plastic device with four "I" shaped ports. They are numbered from the top left as 1, 2 then the bottom row is 3 and 4. You will be using ports 2 and 3. The codes will flash on the dashboard in a designated fashion according to the five codes.

Because the computer has detected something that needs to be resolved. Use a code scanner to find out what problem code the computer has store.

When the Check Engine Light (CEL) comes on, it usually indicates that the computer detected something wrong in the system. Before resetting the light, you should retrieve the code(s) to see what was detected. If everything seems to be fine as you indicate, you can reset the light by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery for a couple of minutes and then reconnect it. Only problem is that by doing this, you will be erasing any codes that may be stored in the computer's memory. However, if you choose to reset it, the CEL will turn back on whenever the computer detects the problem(s) again.

did you mean code P0140 ? this means o2 sensor no activity( bank 1 sensor 2) in other words replace the O2 sensor. hope this answers your question.

Many things can cause your CEL to come on. Whatever the cause, it's important to get it fixed as soon as possible to avoid any damage.

Sorry to tell you this but, you more than likely have a blown head gasket. Stop driving the car immediately or you will destroy the engine. This must be fixed in order for the car to be drivable.

There is a reason that the check engine light came on. The ECM (engine control module) detects a problem. You can clear the codes with a code scanner but if the problem hasn't been fixed the light will come back on. You need to have the codes read. The codes will help you determine the cause of the check engine light problem. It may be as simple as a loose fuel cap.

You can reset the light by disconnecting the battery negative cable and waiting a few minutes. If the fault that caused the light to come on is not repaired, it will come back as soon as the monitor that controls it is rerun.

Without having a scan tool, you can disconnect the battery, and let sit for apx. 10 min., then reconnect.

Answer to my own question for others looking for a conclusion. I checked underneath the passenger seat and the wiring and made sure everything was in and the drivers side also. After just making sure they where in, i turned the key and started the car, both the service light and airbag light went off.

Other things that people have been saying about to check the toggles and reset buttons, load of crap as its obvious. Airbag light means electronic fault or airbag failure. Just check all connections and hopefully you will get the same result as i have got. Money saved!!!!

The cost of this repair would be contained in the labor 'flat-rate manual' which is not available easily or readily available as a normal reference item. You should contact the dealer who analyzed the problem and ask them what THEIR charge would be, and then call around to several other independent, TRUSTED, repair shops and inquire.
