How do you replace the headlight bulb assembly on a 2002 Dodge Durango?

I just finished changing mine!!! (it's a 2000 model, but the same as a '99) I had a squirrel that chewed through the wire's on the plug behind the headlight, so I had to replace that part of the harness. (The driver side light) I found this page trying to solve my problem but found no answers either. BUT I FIGURED IT OUT!!!

'nuf chit chat...lets get to business!

1)With the hood open, you will see a rubber strip along the inside of the headlight. That will simply come off carfully with your hands. There are four plastic "buttons" and one "tab" that it will slip off of. (removing the battery may be helpful for the driver side but I don't think is is absolutely necessary)

2)There are 3 bolts BEHIND the light bucket and framework and a plastic connector. I believe the size for the bolts is a 10mm socket. (You need a long extension for all) Two of them are on the inside-(closest to the radiator) & are visible if you get in there and look. The extension will fit in-between the light and the bumper to get the bottom one off.(DO NOT remove or loosen the tiny star nuts-barely visible between the lights themselves, those are only for the beam adjustment) The 3rd is on the bottom outside. This one is a little tricky, you must use a 1/4 inch ratchet with an extension and the smallest socket you can find to fit the bolt because there is a piece of metal in front of the bolt-head. This may require a little patience to get the socket down and over the bolt, but be careful not to brake the light.

3)Here is the last pain in the butt, it's a little plastic plug that I think is supposed to be a snap in/out type of connector-kind of like a ball and socket. You can see the pointed tip on the inside of the engine compartment. You should carefully pull out straight forward. Somehow I managed to get out the whole peice by squeezing and twisting the plastic piece and wiggling the light. Be careful not to break the connector, if you do the bolts will still hold the light, but you may get a little vibration/wobbly light when driving.

You should have the light assembly completely out now. (So of course on my job, I just reconnected my wire/plug and stuck it back together) To change out the assembly should be easy to see and figure out. You will have to be careful when unplugging the old plugs (little tabs that need to be manipulated) so they don't get damaged before you reconnect to your new headlight.

[edited to add] There is a very small torx screw in between the headlight and directional housing that holds the two units together that you nee to unscrew before they slip apart. I also found it easier to get at the bottom bolt of the headlight assembly from unde the fender using a ratcheting box wrench.

How do you run the trailer harness to the outside under the van on a 2003 Astro?

The best answer I found for my 2002 Astro was to keep the trailer harness inside the van until needed, then simply open the door, bring out the harness, and close the doors with the harness on the floor of the van, coming out between and under the dutch doors. The rubber gaskets around the doors allow the doors to close on the harness without putting a kink in it, even. This protects the harness from weather when not in use.

You accidentally put power steering fluid in the master cylinder of a 2005 Dodge Durango and the brakes are now mushy do you have to bleed the brake lines to get it out?

It would depend on how long the Power Steering fluid has been in there. If this happen just recently you may be able to suction the fluid from the Master Cylinder . I think it would be best to remove the master and replace it, it appears that the steering fluid may have reacted with the rubber on the plunger in the master cylinder.

If this is a dual system , after you replace the master you will have to bleed the entire system to be absolute that there are no other failures of rubber parts in the system. There is always a quick fix but they usually are quick to get you in trouble. When dealing with brakes take no chances, everything is riding on them!!
Hey Buddy, you screwed up BigTime. Don't just bleed the Damm brakes. Flush the Entire System with Fresh Brake Fluid since what you put in there is like mixing Steak Sauce with Cinnamon and Nutmeg to make French Toast!! and expecting it to work! Please watch what you are Doing or else Pay The Price for carelessness. The chemical mixtures are Very different and Brake Fluid should be changed at least every 2 years since it absorbs water from the air. Power Steering Fluid is an entirely different mixture that performs entirely different designed for tasks. Good Luck!!

Where is the fuel filter located on a 1989 Toyota 4x4 truck?

Between the fuel tank and engine. Look under the truck and follow the gas line from the tank to the engine. You will find it.

~this is just being a smart ass. If you don't have a real answer, don't post!

It is on the passenger side underneath the vehicle ontop of the outside frame rail, about half way back. It is difficult to get at because of suspension hardware that gets in the way. I pull the fuel pump fuse while the engine is running to empty the gas lines. Even at that, expect some leakage when 'breaking' the 14 mm fittings on the fuel line. This is not the easiest filter to replace, but can be done with patience. The metal protective filter casing needs to be removed at the same time too (2 bolts). I had to use the teflon tape on the gas line fittings, as there was a slight drip when reinstalled. Don't overdo it tho, as it will make it more difficult to reinstall if too thick.

Why should you not reinstall a brake light switch on a Dodge Durango?

When having your brake light switch installed you have to have a mechanic to do it. It requires you to use a computer to reset some of your settings. I had someone to replace mine and my car wouldn't come out of gear due to the computer. So I ended up having to have it towed to a real shop so that they could reset the computer.

What is causing my p0306 code in my 06 durango. it's a 4.7l . i know its the misfire code. the cylinder has good compression. coilpack is not bad. replaced spark plugs 2 times no difference?

Could be a bum fuel injector. Pull number 6 spark plug again, if it is wet you have a spark problem. If the plug is bone dry you have a fuel problem, probably a bad injector. Swap injector with another cylinder and see if the misfire switches cylinders or remains on number 6 cylinder.
