Electric Windows

The first electric windows were introduced in 1940 as an alternative to the hand-turned windows. These car windows can be lowered and raised by pressing a switch or button. Electric windows are designed for convenience and safety.

Can you get a ticket for a cracked side view mirror?

Yes you can, but most police officers will give you a warning to get it fixed (some will ask you prove you did have it fixed) and you should get it fixed!

How do you fix a 2000 Honda Civic window that won't go up all the way and that fell off its track?

Okay, I found the answer. Apparently, all civics 1997-2000 have this problem. The window suddenly won't roll up all the way. If you look down into the door you'll see that it's fall of the track. You can take the door panel off and put it back on track but from what I hear it'll keep happening occasionally. So the solution is to replace the window regulator. Honda is the only one that carries it. The part they sell has been re-made so this problem won't happen with the new part. It cost us $67 and it was going to cost an additional $113 in labor too. Instead we bought the part and the 2000 Honda civic service manual and replaced it ourselves. It took about 1 1/2 hours and we are NOT very car savvy. Here are some instructions I found on the net, but we followed the service manual instructions. There are pictures in the service manual.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the door panel. Refer to section 20 of the 1996-00 Civic Service Manual.

2. Remove the armrest bracket, then pull down the plastic cover to gain access to the window regulator.

3. Carefully move the glass until you can see the glass mounting bolts, then loosen them. Slide the guide rearward, remove the glass from the guide, and carefully pull the glass out through the window slot.

4. Check the year and VIN. a. If the vehicle is a 1996 or 1997 within the affected VIN range, replace the window regulator. Go to step 5. b. If the vehicle is not a 1996 or 1997 within the affected VIN range, go to step 8.

5. Remove the two roller guide bolts and the two rear regulator mounting bolts; then remove the front regulator mounting bolts.

6. Disconnect the power window motor connector, and detach the harness clip (it applicable); then lift and remove the regulator through the opening in the door.

7. Install the new regulator in the door, then loosely install the two rear mounting bolts and the two roller guide bolts. Do not tighten the two front mounting bolts yet. Go to step 9.

8. Loosen the window regulator's two rear mounting bolts, two front mounting bolts, and two roller guide bolts.

9. Inspect the glass run channel: a. If the run channel is not sitting in the window channels properly, reinstall it. b. If the run channel is damaged, replace it. Refer to section 20 of the appropriate service manual. c. If the run channel is sitting in the window channels properly, go to step 10. NOTE: If the run channel is sitting in the window channels properly and the window regulator was not replaced, disregard this service bulletin and follow normal troubleshooting procedures.

10. Reinstall the glass in the door, but do not tighten the glass mounting bolts. Reconnect the power window motor connector, and temporarily reconnect the window switch (if applicable). Raise the window about 100 mm (4.0 in.) from the fully lowered position.

11. Push the glass toward the rear of the door, and have an assistant tighten the two glass mounting bolts, the four regulator mounting bolts, and the two roller guide bolts.

12. Loosen the front channel mounting bolt and nut. Push the front channel toward the glass, and tighten the mounting bolt and nut. 13. Check the window for smooth operation, and check for gaps between the glass and the run channel with the window all the way up. a. If the window does not operate smoothly, or if you see gaps between the run channel and the window, loosen all the mounting bolts, and repeat steps 10 through 12. b. If the window operates smoothly and you see no gaps between the run channel and the window, reinstall the plastic cover, the armrest bracket, and the door panel.

1992 Honda Civic Front Windows will not roll up or down from the drivers side you replaced the master window switch and the master window relay and they still don't work The back work just fine?

I have a 93 Honda Civic LX with the same problem. I had everything replaced and nothing worked. I took it to a very good electrician and he figured out the problem for me. Its a connector that connects the Master window switch to the rest of the car windows. Mine had moisture damage so it worked on and off and only with certain windows. But the rest of the window switches operated the windows fine. It should be in the door panel/hidden around the door hinge.

How do you remove and replace a drivers side front door power window motor in a 1994 Lexus ES300?

first remove the panel, screws, ect., then unbolt the door glass and then unbolt the bolts that hold the window track and motor to the door itself. the track and the motor comes out together as one piece. you will have to have someone hold the glass up or secure it some how, tape, stick, ect, and swing it forward until it comes out. hope it helps because i had to do mine three time already.

Does quantum mechanics answer the question of free will and human responsibility?

Quantum Mechanics proves that the idea of absolute determinism is flawed. Thus future events cannot be predicted and so there is an element of freedom._______Quantum Mechanics and DeterminismQuantum Mechanics is a science, and it is not the function of science to answer for questions in philosophy and religion, such as the existence of free will and human choice. The sole function of science is to describe the universe via its phenomena and try to find as few basic things-principles- to explain as wide a variety of phenomena as possible. While philosophers and religious thinkers may see something relevant for their fields in this process or our discoveries, science, with the possible exception of the social sciences, does not concern itself with human debate dealing with questions that often can be argued both ways. For the essence of a scientific theory is that it can be falsified, whereas it is probably downright impossible to talk of this property for religious or philososphical arguments.

However, there is a minority interpretation of quantum mechanics called Super Determinism, which holds that everything in the universe runs a precisely structured course that have been decided in some way since the Big Bang, and that everything in the past and future had and has only one precise predetermined course in which it is meaningless to speak of choice (for the process of the choice is part of the precise course too), and which need not have been predetermined by intelligence eitheri. It was proposed as a solution to circumvent the problem of measurement, so dire for the mainstream interpretation of quantum mechanics, the Copenhagen interpretation. For if everything is predetermined, there is no real wave function to collapse, so no time or place in which it collapses! However, the theory faces problems of its own, namely its hidden suggestion that an object can simultaneously can possess a precise possession and velocity, as well as some other properties, all of which were denied by an object's description in wave mechanics. Besides, even the object did really have these properties, since they are undetectable(uncertainty Principle), it would be very hard to validate the theory itself!

Even this theory, I feel, were it to succeed, would do very little in the way of describing human freedom. For how would we know if everything is predetermined, unless we know the course of everything through spacetime, past and future, in the universe? But we can't do that, we are not the Miltonic God or Laplacian devil. We just can't jump out of the system like in films. Human freedom also comes with something subtler- not merely being free to make decisions but to feel that you are free to do so at the same time. The mere fact that choices are predetermined will not fully account for this situation, and were we really to have no free-will it is in my opinion that it would be impossible for us to realise it is so with this neurological condition. Besides, where's the harm in determined choices, if you get the sensation of making them freely and so does everyone else (so no huma Matrix basically...)

From a Buddhist Perspective:

A creator/agent having the ability to have a design or predestination for the infinite universe is the anti-thesis of Buddhism. The aim of Buddhism is to attain enlightenment/nirvana - an aim to liberate oneself or progress for the better of yourself and humanity. The entire concept of karma would be undermined thus preventing an attainment of liberation suggesting free will is simply an illusion. Furthermore the principles of quantum mechanics states uncertainty or unpredictability of the movement of a particle in any given situation, nonetheless not even the most complicated mathematical equation can lead to the predictablility leaving the observer with nothing more than "probability" of the movement of a particle. If science can't even determine the movement of an atom how can they even determine the causation of the entire universe?!

Let's think outside the box. Einstien didn't like uncertainty if he was right then every thing would be perdetermined. The effect on mass from quantum mechanics is defined by Richard Feynman's Quantum paths. There is a long time for the paths to realign before the universe collapses. Make your own conclusion.

How do you put a passenger side window back on track 1998 ford expedition?

Yes, but I doubt your problem is simply that it is "off-track." Off-track refers to the glass slipping out of the two felt/rubber lined u-shaped channels that the glass goes up and down in, on either side of the glass. Frankly, unless the window channel mountings have come loose from the door, or they have been taken loose and not put back together right, or the door has collision damage, it is unlikely that your problem is merely that the window has come off track. It is more likely that you have a bad window regulator. The windows are run up and down by a cable and pully system in the window regulator assembly, and it is more highly likely that a plastic pulley has broken, the cable is now bound up in the regulator, and you need a new regulator.

How do you replace the drivers window handle on a 2001 Chevy Metro?

buy or make a 1/4" curved pick, approx 6 " long, slightly larger ok, small diameter material. slip it behind the plastic washer around the window crank, feel for the window handle clip, approx the diameter of a paper clip and shaped kind of like an old non spring clothspin, there is room to hook the clip on the top, a gap is provided. give it a tug and watch where it flys to. reinstal the clip before you insert the new crank handle.

not difficult, just frustrating the first time. dave

Why would the power window on a 1991 Toyota Camry go down but not up on?

You probably have a bad window switch (someone else wrote)

---------------------------------------------------

I have a 1990 Toyota Camry DX with power windows and locks. The series of car run from 1987,1988,1989,1990,1991. I prefer the crank windows. This is my 3rd Toyota of this series. AND...

I wish the window switch would be that easy... maybe on some but not the one I have. It is the rear passenger window. It would go down but not up. So I thought that I would get a used MASTER window switch. But that one could be bad also... how do I know. The tests that I ran were to find out if the wires that were going to the widow switch were getting power. (Using a multimeter-12volts) I would press down on the Master switch to see if there was any power coming through. I would have power on one wire but not on the other. Before I even started this, I pulled out the window motor and tested it by connecting a wire to the battery of the car to see if it would go up and down by switching the wires from positive to negative and vise-versa. So I am still waiting to find a used 'WORKING' Master window switch to swap and find out if it works or not. If a good one doesn't work... IT HAS TO BE A GROUNDED/SHORTED or cut off wire somewhere along the path of the one wire. The MASTER SWITCH is fairly complicated. I have taken it apart to test and see if there was anything that may have broken/severed/blown up BUT found nothing significant. I tried using logic by the process of elimination and that's why I'm thinking that it is the MASTER window switch. Did you ever try and buy a new one? Did you ever look at the cost of a new one? It seems to be worth more than the car. W

If the electric window on your 2001 Pontiac Sunfire is rolled down and will not roll up could it be a relay or the switch?

#1It's probably the cheap a$$ factory motor AND regulator assembly. Gotta replace both because the regulator (scissor assembly) only originally lasts 80,000 miles or 7 years from original factory production. If you change JUST the motor, its going to be SLOW going up. And it will just wear out again in 10,000 miles. It really is rare that it is JUST the switch or relay!

it's probably the motor. i have a 2002 Pontiac sunfire and had to have both passenger side motors replaced windows would go down and would be slow coming back up and eventually it would not go back up period. the front driver side is now doing the same thing slow to come back up.

Well it all depends...So it can roll down but not up?

Anyways it could be the motor, wires, or relay...I think the switch only triggers one pulse and the relay is the one which controls it to go up or down...If the window can't go either way, try checking for a blown fuse...

Also does both sides do this or is it only one side? Is your window also controled by an alarm with a window module? Need to know more info...However I am leaning towards the relay...

disconnect and reconnect the switch...could be dirty contacts?!?

I had the same problem. I removed the door panel from the driver's side door. Then removed the electrical connector from the power window and put a volt meter on the connector while pressing the window switch. (turn key to on but don't start). If you get voltage at the connector when pressing the window switch to "up" position and "down" position, you have a bad motor. I ordered a window motor from eBay for $24.00

How do you reattach the front driver's side window on a 1995 Lincoln Continental?

I had to do this recently when the glass came out of the track. First remove the trim panel and carefully lift out the glass. Then remove the two attachment pieces from the sissor arm. After taking careful measurements use some Goop or other glue to attach the two pieces to the glass. After the glue dries you can then carefully reinsert the glass into the door and attach it to the sissor. I waited a couple of days before operating the window to make sure the glue was dry. .

Why do none of the windows work but there is not a fuse and circuit breaker is good what next?

I had the same problem with our 1998 Pontiac GP. Both windows suddenly failed to operate. Checked the circuit breaker, that was fine. Could not find any other type of fuse related to the windows. The answer? The electrical pigtail that should have been plugged into the two window operating switches on the drivers side door had come loose. Once reconnected, all was well. (To access the wiring, just GENTLY pry up the switch panel from the bottom - below the two window switches.)

Both electric front window's won't work why?

How To Repair Your Car's Power Windows

By Matthew Keegan As you're driving down the turnpike and approaching the tollbooth, you reach for the switch to lower your window and nothing happens. The switch moves but the window does not budge. Not even a noise from the window motor can be heard which strongly suggests to you that the device is not functioning. You must stop your car and open up the door to pay the attendant before continuing on your trip. Thoughts of an expensive car repair bill are dancing through your head, putting you in a foul mood and tempering the anticipated fun of your getaway weekend. Don't despair: you can repair the power window yourself and save a bundle over expensive dealership charges. Let's take a look at the steps you can take to fix the problem yourself and save a lot of cash in the process. Before assuming that the window regulator must be replaced you should first rule out the possibility of dirty electrical contacts. On most cars the main power for all switches goes through the master switch located at the driver's console. Sometimes the switch is dirty causing the window to malfunction. If this is the case, take the necessary steps to clean the contact and your problem should be resolved. Should you determine that the contacts are clean and your switch is functioning, then it is likely that the motor has burned out and is in need of replacing. Whether you are installing a Honda window regulator or a Volkswagen window regulator, or a regulator for any other make the steps involved in replacing a window regulator are usually quite similar: # Remove the door panel for the affected window. # Locate and remove the bolts holding the regulator to the door; it is likely you will have to manually lower the window in order to access the bolts. # Remove the old regulator, disconnect all wiring, and replace the old regulator with a new one you have purchased from a parts supplier. Shop online to find the best value as you will pay a mint if you order one through a dealership. # Tighten the bolts holding the new regulator and reinstall the moisture barrier. Make sure all the wires are put back in the door before closing the door panel # Engage the power window switch and the new regulator should work unimpeded. Of course, follow your car's repair manual for specific instructions. I've given to you a general outline to convince you that this is a task that even a novice mechanic can handle - in other words: you can do it! By handling the problem yourself, you'll save plenty of money by avoiding garages who will mark up the replacement part as well as tack on several hours of labor costs to your bill. Shop online to compare prices and to receive the best shipping and handling arrangements available.

92 Camry RR window will not go up replaced the motor and register and have power going to it This is from both window switches?

Well lets eliminate the switches for now. Get some extra long wire and hook motor up directly to battery just to see if you can get motor to work. make sure you use positive to positive and negative to negative or ground on motor. If this makes motor work you may want to check switches or possibly a non grounding situation.

How do you remove the driver's side door panel on a 1996 Mercury Marquis to repair the electric window?

I've only done this to a few different cars, not the one in question but it may help. There are typically screws around the outside of the door, and a few hidden inside the door handle. And you'll probably have to remove the window winder if not electric. Without seeing the car itself not much I can help with. But at least it's a start

Take out the few screws, inside the door handle well (inside), lift the control panel for the windows, lock ect. Then lift the panel straight up and remove.

Where is window electrical panel for ford explorer 1995?

In the Power Distribution Box in the engine compartment (Note : Ford recommends disconnecting your battery cables before servicing anything in the PD BOX - which means your preset stations on your radio and the clock will have to be reset , the Explorer will have to relearn its idle etc. ) The Power Distribution Box diagram I have is not numbered , so here goes : In the 2nd row of fuses / relays from the drivers side and in the 3rd spot from the firewall end of the PD BOX is a green colored 30 amp maxi-fuse for the power windows , power seats , and power locks ( Helpfull )

Why the driver's side power window quit working on a 1996 Toyota Camry LE?

It could have failed due to several causes. If I were you I would check the fuses. Look at the wires for any obvious short circuits. Make sure the window and other moving parts are not jammed physically. Bypass the switch to rule that out. I might use a tester to see where power is and where it is not. Then get a repair manual and look up how to test the electric motor that drives the window. But if it is getting power and not moving then it likely needs repair or replacement. So, the short answer to your question is that it quit because of a bad fuse, or shorted wire, or bad switch, or bad motor, or jammed part.

Probably.
