The top radiator hose feeds into a round metal thing on top of the engine. Drain the radiator, take off the top hose by removing the hose clamps, inspect the hose for damage and cracks, the round metal thing (thermostat housing) can be taken off by removing the two bolts that hold it in. take out the old thermostat and replace it with the new one. It may have a rubber gasket so double check. Put it all back together and refill the radiator with 50/50 antifreeze and water. Run it til the level drops and top it off again. Check for leaks.

its on the rear diff. on top, theres another one on the rear of tranny too which i had to replace days ago...

Check all vacuum lines for cracks or leaks, and replace as necessary. I would just replace all vacuum lines. Replace the plugs and plug wires if you have not done so.

you can engage the 4 wheel drive with the vehicle in neutral, then make sure you lock the hubs manually on the wheels. turn the dial on the hub caps of the front wheels to lock, when not in 4 wheel the wheels need to be in free mode.

on the rear of the transmission it has a single bolt holding it in, and usually has a + symbol on it.

I had the same problem and then the fan quit blowing. It was all controlled by the automatic temperature controller. If I remember correctly it was referred to as a ATC chip. I purchased the chip on line from a used parts outfit somewhere in the north for about $50.00. It is pretty easy to install. It's located on the firewall on passenger side behind a heather hose

i assume you are saying the window does not go up or down correclty but you can still hear the motor working when pressing the window switch, that is common problem. faulty window regulator, somewhat complex to replace, recommend taking to dealer and having it replaced, probably cost around 300$, good luck. I replaced a rear regulator on my 2000 328i and it wasn't that difficult. The regulator was about $65. Check the motor seal, as sometimes the cable will tear it up when it jumps the track. Really no excuse for a window regulator failing in so new a car. I only had 35k on mine and rarely used the rear windows. Chilton publishes a manual for the 3-series for about $20 if you need the help.

Hi, I can only ask if you have had a smoke test done yet to determine where the leak is? I also have a '97 and have yet to find where mine is. The smoke test comes next. I also have replaced all of those and more. I think I have a leak in the fill tube vent or the overflow. I would try and have the smoke test done and then they might be able to tell where the leak is. I've been beating my head against the wall on this and only keep dumping dollars into the car but I can't afford another so on I go too. Good luck and if you find out, please put another answer here. I will make the assumption that it is the same as a 95. If that is so, then;

Jack the truck up in the rear as high as you can.

Place jack stands under the axle.

Disconnect the filler and return hoses.

Drain the tank

Disconnect the fuel line from the top of the tank.

Disconnect the electrical fitting from the tank. [ there is a "hold in clip " on the top of this connecter.

Get a 3 ft or so 1X8 and a jack, support the bottom of the tank with this.

Remove 1 bolt from the front rock shield. It is right on top of the frame, 1/2 in [I think]

There are two nuts [15mm] on the driveshaft side of the tank at the strap attachment points.

The rear nut is easily accessable. The front one is under the driveshaft bracket but, can be removed [think long extension for this job.

The fuel pump and filter assy are accessed by screwing off the plastic ring and lifting them out. NOTE there will still be about a quart of fuel in this unit.

Replacement is the reverse of the above. NOTE: the pump filter unit has at the top a rubber seal. This seal must be fully inside the housing for the plastic lock down to engage correctly.

Either in the back of a Haynes or Chilton manual or, best of all, in the authorized Ford wiring diagram from Helm. I have found them on Ebay and swap meets.

1-Take the battery out

2-Remove the battery tray

3-You should see the black sensor on the top of the transmission on the back.

It takes a 10mm socket then it should lift out.

Take the plastic gear off and see if the shaft will spin with a drill with someone in the car watching the speedo (the car has to be on)

If it works, then just check all the connections with the wires and the gear to the tranny.

If you can stick your whole fingers through the hole and spin it...the whole tanny has to come out to replace the gear ;)

It is in the transmission.

If there is enough room, yes. If not, no. I doubt that you will have enough room.

On the passenger side where the carpet goes up under the dash. Pull the carpet back and it will be on the left.

If you do not see 2 screws holding it in place it just pulls off.

You have to Jack up the car, and reach above the rear end , remove the 2 clips holding the fuel lines and give them a slight twist and pull. This will remove the hoses. Then you will have to remove the hoses and straps and wiring in the trunk, in order to remove the tank.

The fuel control relay is mounted on the right fender, a foot aft of the battery. It is one of two cube-looking relays mounted there. It is controlled by the Electronic Engine control. Replacement is about $20.
