The most likely cause is heating and cooling from the sun causing tailgate wiring to flex while parked, or on bumpy roads This drove me crazy for a year. Also had flashing or flickering "door open" light at times while driving.

Lift the tailgate and carefully pull the plastic trim down across the top area of the glass, just enough to get to the two connectors inside. Separate the two connections and clean/lubricate the connections and reinstall.

Your fuel is low. Its telling you to check your gas gauge...

The 2004 Mercury Mountaineer does not have an automatic transmission fluid

dipstick . I know that the 2002 and newer Ford Explorer four door versions

do not have a dipstick for the automatic transmission fluid level .

The 8" round subwoofer in in the back hatch, passender side. Remove plastic panel. Cut out old, nonfunctioning subwoofer. Be careful to disconnect wiring to re wire new unit. Then the really HARD part. There is a metal casing that need to come out. The flathead screws are cemented into the magnet so we drilled the screw heads old and removed the metal casing with a claw hammer. Then the heavy magnet is still a problem and embedded into a plastic molding inside that chamber. So ............... we used a crowbar to pop it out. Throw the old away. Connect old witring to new subwoofer. Screw into the exhisting holes and turn on the radio. What a GREAT sound! Didn't know we missed it so much. Really was easy to do except for the drilling and crwobar part. But................. it saved us $60 installation fee and we got NICE subwoofer on sale. Hope this helps you .

P0133 - upstream heated O2 sensor circuit slow response ( Bank 1 )

Bank 1 is the passenger side of your engine

Sensor 1 - is in your exhaust pipe before the exhaust enters the catalytic converter ( upstream )

The are a few reasons why a vehicle could make a clanking noise upon cranking. The oil level could be low. A hydraulic lifter could be stuck causing the engine to flood. The spark plug wires could be crossed. It could even been a weak battery.

Its on the right side of the hood. It runs under the hood and through the firewall to the back of the radio

5 quarts WITH FILTER CHANGE

The door code is located on the computer module. The computer module is located in the trunk, on the driver's side, in the spare tool compartment. After locating the module, you will need a flashlight and a pry bar or flathead screwdriver to see the 5 digit number. The number is on the top of the module, in the back-right corner ( I had to put the back seat down and lay down to see it ). You will see other misc. numbers on the top of the module, but the 5 digit number is a lot bigger than the other numbers. After you have found the 5 digit number, test to make sure it is correct. If so, you can then change your passcode to your own 5 digit number. To do this just type in the factory 5 digit number, then press the "1-2" button, followed by the 5 digit number of your choice ( note: when choosing your 5 digit code, do not make all the numbers the same, e.g. 11111, 12121, ect )

I have also heard that you can find the code on the back of the fuse panel by the drivers side door. Two bolts hold the panel in place, remove those, and pull the panel out. There should be a big, white sticker on it with a 5 digit code. I have NOT personally tried this yet, but have heard from a few people who have done this.

the overdrive is used to save gas. it is an additional gear after your final gear in the transmission. this gear usually kicks in at higher speeds (maybe 50+). you will notice the tach drop down about 500 rpm's as the vehicle kicks into overdrive. it does not make your car go faster or slower. you will not have be able to accelerate as fast in overdrive as you will in other gears. if it is an automatic overdrive then as you slow down the overdrive will automatically be taken off.

On a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer :

The fuel pump shut off switch ( inertia switch ) is located in the front passenger foot well , in the corner , above the carpet and below the dash

- if you don't smell gas or see any gas leaking push the red reset button DOWN if it has popped up on the top of the switch

- turn your ignition key to the RUN position for a few seconds and then turn your ignition key to the OFF position

- make another check for the smell of gas or any gas leaking , if none , go ahead and start the engine

If you open the drivers door , you will see the removable plastic fuse panel

cover in the drivers END of the dash . The fuses are behind the cover

* also , the Power Distribution Box ( which is " live " ) is located in the ENGINE COMPARTMENT on the drivers side of the engine compartment
