What are the signs of a blown head gasket in a 1997 Mercury Sable?
Overheating, miss on one or more cylinders, loosing coolant with no apparent leak, sweet smell at the exhaust pipe, air bubbles in the radiator with the cap off, coolant mixed with the oil, milky substance on the underside of the oil cap, are just some of the symptoms.
How do you bleed the radiator in a 1996 Taurus?
Get underneath your vehicle and look for a wing nut valve on the buttom or side of the radiator, and loosen it.
If the Sable is equipped with the 3.8 liter engine, it is probably ablown headgasket. If you cannot see an external leak, then you have an internal leak. An internal leak is more likely than not caused by a blown head gasket or cracked head. Stop driving the car immediately or you will do serious engine damage. A compression test will possibly help verify if you have a blown head gasket. Get this repaired ASAP.
What is the part No of the Ford JBL P100 radio OEM Black 8 pin connector?
I think, it hasn't. Only the wiring harness has.
Well it's not correct. The Ford pigtail connectors has a part number.
How do you get rid of headlight condensation?
place some silica packs in your headlight housing unit, obviously away from the beam itself. it'll suck up that stupid condensation in no time
yes it will
How to open your hood on a 1990 Honda civic LX cable broken?
theres a wire that is attached to the hook that keeps your hood down, if you can see that wire good. now let me tell you: i have a 92 civic, what i do is pull that metalic wire to left away from the hook and it releases the hood. My wire is connected to the hook but not to the release button inside the car. so if your wire is still connected at both ends you might have more trouble opening your hood.
Many AC controls will act like that when you are out of refrigerant. Have the refrigerant level checked. If you have a very slow leak, it might be easier to just add refrigerant every year. If the leak is very substantial, it might be better to have it repaired.
Where is the brake adjustment piston on a 1995 Mercury Sable?
sorry, there isn't one..read up on the system ... everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the library should have a professional shop manual available in the REFERENCE section...make copies of the right sections...good luck :)
That would be your starter. Get a used one at a wrecking yard if the new is too expensive. They are plentiful for Cavaliers and used works just as good as new. Wrecking yard. Before you go and buy a new starter/used starter and change it... check the battery for a good charge... If the battery is low it could cause the starter solenoid to hop. This hopping would also sound like a turn signal. If the battery charge is good then I would agree it is a starter solenoid.
Where is the 95 Mercury Sable fan relay?
It's been a few years since I sold mine, but it should be under the glove behind the kick panel...
What other car's alternator can be used on a 92 Mercury Sable 3.0 engine?
the Ford Taurus is essentially the same car. the 3.0 engine is also used here. stay away from the 3.8 engine found in these cars.
What would cause a 1992 Sable to be stuck in park with the key stuck in the ignition?
I had the problem with my 2000 regal 2x. They replaced the ignition, which did not work. I went up north and a friend worked at the gm dealer. He said it was the solenoid in the shifter. He replaced the shifter and guess what, it worked!! AnswerActually, I had this happen to my 94 sable and I was trying to get the key out for a while. Make sure the car is in PARK or the key won't come out.
What do you do if your 91 Mercury Sable overheated and now it will not run?
It depends on how hot it got. You need to get an accomplished mechanic to checkit out.
or
You can check for compresson by removing your plugs one at at time checking for compresson by letting someone turn the key while you check for compresson, if your compression are weak you might need to remove everything from the top, from intake manifolds, to head gaskets, then from the bottom you need to remove the oil pan and the muffler assembly, once the top and bottom are removed you can remove your pistons from under by pushing it upward, you will have to unbolt some nuts from the connecting rods to push out the pistons, once pistons are out check for wear and scratches on the pistons and cylinders, replace piston rings and reassemble back to how it was removed.
Many things can cause an engine to quit. You'll have to go b ack to the basics, check fuel delivery, ignition and compression. Start with a little starting fluid to see if it will fire a little. If it does, then quits when you stop spraying starting fluid, the problem is fuel delivery. Try that then let's go from there.
There might be a problem with the fuel pressure. When the vehicle is shut off after driven for a while, the fuel pressure create a vapor lock in the fuel line. Therefore, insufficient fuel are going into the fuel injectors while you restart. Also, it check for any TSB from ford to see of this a common problem for this vehicle. Good Luck.
Where is the vss speed sesor located on a 1996 mercury sable?
ON my 96 Sable the VSS (Variable Speed Sensor) also known by OSS (according the the book I bought at Autozone) was located on the top of the transaxle near the driver's side front wheel. Standing beside the car's front left wheel and looking over into the car the sensor will be located on the top, backside of the transaxle and below the shifter location sensor. The easiest way to explain this is that is't located just below all the other stuff on the top of the transaxle but right on top of the transaxle. Just has one small bolt beside the connector toward the front of the car that held it in place. Hard to get to. Had to partially loosen from the top of the car and complete using a long 1/4 extension from beneath the car near the wheel. Note: The sensor on ours looked NOTHING like the one in the book. It wasn't in Autozone's or Oreilly's computer or the Wells picture book as of this entry. We were able to crossreference the part number on the sensor itself to a OEM part number OEM Brand Ford SS10697. (the part number on the sensor was F1DP 7M101 AA). Still looking for the part at the moment. The one in the book was long and black with a round white thingy in the end of it. This was a mechanical type. Our was a magnetic type which basically looked like a place to attach a connector on the transaxle wall. The wiring connector was a two sided clip that plugged into the sensor connector which faced the rear of the car. To sum up.. the sensor inserts into the transaxle straight from the left side of the housing and toward the center of the engine. The sensor Connector faces the rear of the car.
What causes a 2000 mercury sable to skip in the motor when it gets hot?
I have a mercury villager that would run great until it got hot and the it would start skipping and backfireing. I tried everything, finally I took the distributor apart, and inside, under the rotor cap, was a metal plate, I took it off to find a Photo Censor inside, there is a round plate inside that goes thought the photo censor. I took some starting Fluid (ether) and cleaned all of it really good and wiped it off with a shop towel. put it all back together and it runs like new. Just remember to make sure you put your distributor back in just like it came out or it want be in time. DO NOT TURN THE MOTOR OVER WHILE YOU HAVE THE DISTRIBUTOR OUT!!!. Good Luck
It needs the code. Call, your dealer. That has nothing to do with it. Got to a ford or mercury dealer and they will tell you they no nothing about it.
It is the fleet installed cell phone that is causing the problem. Turn the car on, turn the cell phone on, wait a minute, the turn cell phone off. Radio will the work.
If you do not still have the cell phone handset, get and hook it up. then do as above says. I had the same problem, and solved the problem by turning cell phone on and the turning it off again.
Is there a converter kit for replacing the radio in 1996-2005 Taurus - Sables?
Even though the radio is integrated into the climate control dash-panel and requires a converter kit, removing the radio is the same as a regular unit.
TIP: Invest the $4-5 for a pair of Ford radio removal tools - widely available from auto parts stores, Walmart, etc. (or fabricate your own if you are really cheap from hanger wire). Insert the tools into each pair of small holes on either side of the radio face
They're all the way in when you feel them hit an indent, or a bit of 'click'
Push the tops of the tools to the *OUTSIDE* while pulling the radio out from the dash. This is more "art" & feel than specific instructions.
Here is where it's slightly different: disconnect the 2 or 3 wire harness connectors off & disconnect the radio antenna wire, AND the related heater/climate controls.
I have a 97 and it requires a dash kit (the dash is OVAL, with the heater controls). The kit and wiring harness from circuit city is $85. The radio is in the trunk in that car. you will have to run the wires to the trunk and plug it in. then just match colors.
Here is a link that shows where the cabling is run on a Ford Taurus.
The 1996-2005 Taurus / Sables / Escorts / Tracers all required the dashkit which have the heater controls built-in. Many stores & outlets carry these, including
Crutchfield.com is where I bought one for my 98 Tracer. The dashkits are currently $70, $35 if you purchase a radio priced at $130 or more.
NOTE: if your vehicle has the electronic climate control, like my 98 Sable, you may be out of luck - I haven't found one yet.
With the converter dashkit, you would be able to fit / install virtually any after-market radio units.
SCOSCHE FD134030B TIPS:">TIPS: Be sure to spend the few dollars for the wire harness kit - This saves you from having to CUT the factory wiring. If you sell the car, it takes only 10 minutes to put the factory radio back.
Many places even give you the radio removal tools when you buy a radio from them, like Crutchfield.comDo not try to save a few dollars and spend far more than $5 worth of your time with home made tools
This vehicle has the round dash panel surrounding the radio and climate controls. If your climate controls are the 3 turn-knobs and not the full electronic controls, then yes, you can put in aftermarket stereo.
Just be aware that the dash panel replacement, along with the wiring harness (which is very very long) won't be cheap. Normally you can easily pay 65-80 or more. Then comes the fun of the install.
The tuner pack for this factory stereo is in a box that is mounted in the trunk where the antenna is located. You will have to access that and then your purchased harness/antenna adapter will plug into the factory wiring plug and antenna. You must then run that long stretch of wires all the way up to the front and behind the dash up to the factory opening. These will then connect to your aftermarket radio.
Totally agree - and you'll find these stereo/radio harnesses at places like typical auto parts stores (Advance, Autozone, etc.), along with Target and Walmart.
Save yourself hours of frustration in dealing with wiring - spend the few extra dollars for the harness.
Also, some retailers will even include the harness at minimal cost, or even for free, like Crutchfield.com (I'm a very happy repeat customer)
On the radio/HVAC control face there are four little holes, two on either side of the radio controls. There are special tools, we call "radio hooks" available cheap at auto parts stores. They should come with instructions. f they don't ask somene there to demonstrate how to use them. The radio will come out fairly easy using radio hooks.
If it's the stock dash (specifically the middle containing the ac/radio controls) there are a pair of 'U' shaped tools that you need to get from Ford, eBay, or some source. Once you have them, you just put one on either side lined up with the four small holes, and push in, then pull back out. The dash should easily come out with them.
there are 4 small holes in the front of the console. take a piece of a wire coat hanger and bend it in a u shape. make 2 of these. put the ends of this u shape tool into the holes upper and lower on each side and push gently this will unlock the console so you can remove it. It helps to have 2 people...one to push the tools in and the other to get the front of the console off. You can buy a tool made specifically for this but someone gave me the coat hanger suggestion and I used it and it worked. Good luck
Since the dash is not a standard opening, the 1996-1999 Taurus Sables require a converter plate. This converter not only allows standard mounting for most all after-market radios, but also has the climate controls for the blower & heater knobs.
Retailers like Crutchfield.com have these converters, and they price around $40.
NOTE: if your Taurus Sable has electronic, automatic climate control, you're (we're) out of luck. The typical converters I have found won't work with those controls.
NOTE: This information applies to the same years Escort / Tracer models since they share the same oval dash design.
Even though the pictures are of a traditional DIN mount radio, the information fully applies to the 1996+ Taurus/Sables
take a wire coat hanger and cut it in half to form two u shaped pieces. stick them in to the four holes located in the head unit. while giving pressure outward on both pieces of the hanger, simultaneously pull the radio out. make sure the hanger is thick so it wont have much flex
I also owns 2001 Ford Taurus SE. Not sure if most of these models comes with standard 10-disc CD player located in the trunk on the left side. If you have a tape player with CD button option, then you should have the black box in the trunk. Otherwise, you may want to speak with your local Ford dealer about it. They can help you with that.
The only freon available is R134a. Your car most like came with R12. That means it will have to have the system evacuated at a shop, and then be converted to the R134a. Look at the fittings where the freon is to be introduced to the system....if they are screw on, then your car needs to be changed over to the newer refrigerant....if they are quick connects, you simply need to add R134a.

How full should be the engine coolant be in the reservoir on a Taurus - Sable?
water level should be to the water level indicated on the recovery tank when the engine reaches operating tempature.
Look real close to the side of the reservoir - you'll find very hard-to-see level markings: "Full Cold" and "Full Hot" (or similar terms).
Those are your level targets when topping off the coolant.
There are illustrations and instructions for your specific model year in the Owners Manual - along with anti-freeze specification. (See "Related Questions" below for free online copies of 1996 and new Ford product Owners Manuals!)
This is also a good time to think about how long has it been since the anti-freeze was changed.
If it is brown or otherwise discolored, you should seriously consider having the engine flushed and filled with new coolant.
See "Related Questions" below for more about radiator draining and flushing...
