Then my distributor went out and I replace it and the problem did not come back. ---------- The speedometer cable probably needs to be lubricated with graphite powder. Don't know how to access the cable though. I have the same problem on my 94 si, but strangely, the odometer does seem to be working fine.
this is usally caused by your speed censor is gone it should be located on top of transmission drivers side of car it is the one with 2 wires plugged into it.

from 1986-1993. There are two small plastic gears in the gauge itself
that become old and brittle. When they lose a gear tooth, the gauge
will stop registering. The gears are available through Ebay sellers
and several online vendors. The speedometer uses an electronic sensor on the rear differential. It could be anything from the sensor, wiring or the gauge itself. The odometer may be related. If the speedo won't go, obviously the odo won't either. There is an odo kit available from IPD.

Check the wires on the back of the rear axle. There is a sensor there for the speedometer. If the wires break, it will not read any speed or distance. I have had to repair mine twice. The sensor is on the drivers side of the differential to the rear. Hope that is it.

You only need to know how to program the chip or the processor and what memory to change, what to change it to. Its not cheap equipment and software, but to have it done is cheap. Changing a digital odometer is not illegal, making profit off of it or not disclosing that it has been changed is illegal.

There is a pair of gears driven off the Speedo cable. One or both of the gears have most likely broken. I have a set on the way. Sorry, haven't changed them yet, so I can't give you details on how-to yet.

I am guessing that there are a few ways..1 replace the speed sensor(located on the transmission...) if that dont do it then replace the cluster ..Dash part of it...where the speedometer and guages are..very easy to replace....20-mins tops....just remove the screws on the dash..and under the hood latch...and all pops right off..Hope this helps..

I have a 91 and the odometer quit. The rest of the guages followed after a while. If you hit the dash they would come on. I tought there was a loose connection. I never found one. I then replace the printed circuit behind the guages with one from a scrap yard. It fixed it. It's probably you printed circuit and after a while I am sure the rest of the guages will fail.
