How do you change the transmission filter on a 95 olds aurora?
Jack up the car or put the car up on ramps. Once you get the car up get under the vehicle and you will see the transmission ( you can't miss it. ) There will be about 10 -15 screws you will have to take off but lower one side of the transmission to allow the transmission fluid to drain out on one side so you son't get it anywhere.
Hold the "eng data" and "range" buttons simultaneously for a few seconds, until the oil life index reads 100.
What causes the 95 aurora to shift hard from park to drive and from park to reverse?
I had that happen to me. It had a bad sensor in the transmission causing the service engine soon light to come on. And every time the light came on the car would shift really hard (even while driving) They tried to replace the sensor but couldn't. Turns out they had to replace the transmission. It was a $1300 job, luckily the transmission was still under warranty.
the linkage on this car needs to be lubed often wd-40 works realley well. it was not the tranny.
Best_My 1996 Olds Aurora had a very similar, if not the same problem.Separating a connector in the area that is directly beneath where the ash tray is, solves the problem.Disassemble the center console by removing the 4 screws in the center console ash tray, removing the 4 screws on the top of the glove box and one screw on the driver side inside the glove box bottom, and the circlip on the front side of the shifter grip, (use a narrow screw driver to pry out) and lift the shift off the stem and disconnect the Trans Power connector. Remove the face plate around the radio and forward air ducts. The entire center console lifts out enough to separate the electronic connection closest to the driver side central console. With the key turned on, (do not start the engine) the shifter should now release from being locked in Park and permits the shifter to be moved to a drive gear allowing the wood grain console/ash tray and glove box to pop out and away. Identify the connector under the ash tray area and separate. Finally tape, or zip Tie it off.
Put everything back together. Not as hard as you think, be sure to reattach the electronic connection closest to the driver side central console, and snap all the pieces back into place, replace all screws, reconnect the Trans power connector and reattach inside the shifter grip. The shifter is not seated until the circlip is reinserted correctly.
Congratulations, you will no longer need to step on the brake or wrestle the shifter to get it in gear.or get the car out of Park, and manual shifting will be smooth and effortless.. (Note: The vehicle Park/Lock safety feature is being bypassed and is not to be considered child safe with the engine running.)
How do you jump start a 2001 Aurora?
place wires on the pos. and neg. battery terminals as in any vehicle and connect them to a another running cars batteries or a battery charger/jumper (battery is located under the back seat) Since the battery on the Aurora in under the rear seat, it is better to open the hood and connect to the positive terminal on the passenger side of the car next to the fuse block. There is a red cover over this terminal. Connect the negative cable to a good ground on the engine block, out of the way of moving parts. Caution make sure not to connect to any of the A/C lines/parts as they are not grounded (these are tempting since they are readily accessible.)
Where is the factory amplifier located at in a 2001 olds aurora?
i was told by "GM" that it is in the trunk. at the back of the seat there is a piece of plastic. pull that off and it should be on the left side on the back wall of the back seat. which would be the drivers side.
The 2001 specifies Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30. Any brand of synthetic oil would be fine.
How many miles does an Oldsmobile aurora usually get until it dies?
I have 142k on my 2001 Aurora.
Engine is still pretty strong with the exception of burning a bit more oil and slight loss of power with the occasional compulsion to require two or three tries to start the car every couple of weeks.
Unfortunately the same can't be said for the rest of the car.
Poor shifting transmission that was rebuilt 2 or 3 years ago, leaking sunroof, leaking heater core, leaking AC unit, finicky power steering unit, busted center console lid, cracked and deteriorating driver side door vinyl, mysterious and constant check engine light, check gas cap light, crazy acting fuel gauge.
I think that's about it. The body looks like it just rolled off the showroom however.

How do you replace a foglamp in a 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora?
I believe that you have to unscrew the headlight above the fog lamp you want to change. Then reach down and and change the bulb. It is not easy. It took the dealership 30 minutes to do one side. I would just check with your local dealership, they will usually do bulb changes for free if you come in for an oil change. just bring the bulb with you as this is too expensive for them to provide. About $35 Canadian each. Kumar

How do you replace the power steering on a 1997 Olds Aurora?
note: you will have to jack or lift the engine out of the car a few inches to accomplish this.
I have my own aurora, and have been trying to do this myself. First, you will need to remove the belt. Then, you will need to locate the pump and get the pulley off. The power steering pump is located on the passenger side of the engine, near the top. The cap says "Power Steering Fluid" on it. The pulley for the pump is right below that, and is one of the larger pulleys... it's in plain sight. You'll need a pulley removal tool, because the aurora power steering pulley doesn't have holes for bolt-removal. You can remove the pulley without first lifting the engine, but it can be tricky, especially depending on the tool you use. Once the pulley is removed, there are two bolts on the far side of the pump, and towards the bottom. If you haven't lifted the engine yet, here is where you will need to. Both of those bolts act like hinge pins, and must be completely removed; however, you will only be able to remove one if you haven't lifted the engine. The mounting brackets will prevent further removal. They also make belt removal/replacement a severe pain at best. If you have the engine lifted, just make sure your main line and return hose are both disconnected, pull those bolts, and it will come right out.

97 olds aurora i put a new ignition switch in and the car still won't crank?
This sounds like a simple answer, but it may be the key. I have a a '97 Aurora and the key stopped working. It wouldn't crank or anything. I used the other key I had, and it started right up. I then took the "non-working" key and cleaned it with rubbing alcohol a little (with a paper towel... NOT directly in the alcohol), and it then worked. On and off this would happen over the winter. All summer it's been fine. -Lori

Why do you add antifreeze to your car?
Antifreeze does 2 things. First it protects your engine when the outside temperature is below freezing and the vehicle is not running. If the coolant freezes it could crack your engine block requiring a new engine. Caution: 100% antifreeze will also freeze up if it gets too cold. For best results you have to mix antifreeze and water. Check the antifreeze container for correct mixture. Antifreeze also has other things in it that keeps the water pump in good shape, prevents corrosion of the the radiator and helps transfer heat out of the engine. You need it even in hot weather.
