Where is the throttle position sensor located on a Oldsmobile silhouette?

Hi all, I own one so I know where it is. Follow the four inch air hose leading from the air filter back toward the engine. Looking at the van from the front the filter is on the drivers side. Just above the manifold you will see where the throttle cables attach to a cam like item. Look behind the throttle body and you will see a sensor like device with four wires. Just under that sensor you will see another sensor with connector that has yellow rubber seal. That sensor will have three wires. That is your throttle prositon sensor. Good luck.

How do you program a keyless remote for a 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette?

Resync your remote

We have a '99, so it should be similar. According to the manual, page 2-12:

Resynchronizing the Remote Transmitter

... Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons, together, and hold for at least seven seconds or until the horn sounds if equipped with Content Theft Deterrent.

is it a different procedure with 1999 intrigues? i just tried syncing both of my remotes with new batteries and had no luck at all.

In a 1991 Oldsmobile Silhouette van how would you access subsequently replace the blower motor resistor?

I have a 1999 van. The heater motor needs to be removed. It is located in front of the passenger side, 3 brass bolts screw in vertically. With motor removed you can disconnect the wiring to the motor. Follow the wiring the other way and you will find the resistor, also held in with small brass screws. For mine, it was not necessary to completely remove them, just unscrew about 3/8 inch, then the resistor can drop down and slide out. Y

You are better off kneeling on some padding outside the passenger door with a light and some small sockets

Where is the PCV valve in a 1994 Olds Silhouette?

Engine Size? Anyways, look on one of the valve covers, I believe you will find it there.

Oldsmobile Silhouette wheel bearing how to replace?

Depending on model year the now discontinued Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan type vehicle may have been equipped with a combination of pressed in and sealed wheel bearings. Sealed wheel bearings involve unbolting the hubs and replacing them with new units. Pressed in bearings must be removed, repacked with fresh grease and then pressed by industrial unit, then reinstalled. Machine shops can also repress in bearings if you do not have a press.

How do you add brake fluid on a 1999 Silhouette?

Don't know if the '99 is the same as my 2000, but I took a cap from a hypoid gear bottle (funnel shaped) and put on a length of small fuel line, inserted the line into the reservior and poured brake fluid very slowly into the inverted cap and let it drain down the line until I could see the level come up. It took a bit of dexterity to hold the hose/funnel in one hand and pour with the other, but it can be done.

Can you adjust windshield wiper travel?

I adjusted the travel on my drivers side wiper because it wasn't going far enough to the left (from inside). It is a 2012 Nissan Murano. I took off the black cap that gets pushed on, there was a 7/16 bolt that I loosened with a socket wrench, took it all the way off. At first I tried to pull the wiper off the housing that the bolt had tightened it to, but that wouldn't work. I had stopped the wiper at it's furthest left travel by turning the car off. At this point, I tried to just push it further left. It worked and I tightened it, and all is well. !!

How many bolts are on the power steering pump?

On a 1995-2002 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 there are 4 mounting bolts. 3 are behind the pulley and one is on the opposite side between the pump and engine. There is also a special wrench needed to release the tensioner on the belt(we were able to use a bar as a lever to loosen it but I wouldn't suggest this), a regular ratchet won't fit in there. This pump is no fun to replace, if you are not mechanically inclined I would suggest taking it to a shop. Edit: not sure how this ended up under an olds question, I replied to a question about a Pontiac sunfire, unless they are the same as the other j-bodies like a cavalier.

How big is the gas tank on a 1999 Oldsmobile silhouette?

I have a 2000 model and I just put in 20 gallons, so if it's the same tank on the '99 it's at least 20 gallons.

Does a 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette have an oil cooler?

Yes, the 2000 Olds Silouette has an engine oil cooler, as well as a transmission oil cooler for the automatic tranny. The engine oil cooler is built in to the engine oil filter housing. Water/coolant enters from the engine block, circulates around the filter housing and exits through a tube to the lower intake manifold. If an engine starts getting oil in the coolant and coolant in the engine oil, this could very well be the source of the problem. An internal leak.

Why is the Check oil level light on for 98 Oldsmobile silhouette comes on then goes off. Oil level is fine. Also My abs light comes on and off.?

If the oil level is fine, your oil level sensor or the sensor wiring is malfunctioning. Same for the ABS system. Check ABS fuses.

What could cause the fuel gauge to stay pegged on full in an Oldsmobile Silhouette?

I have a 97 olds silhoutte with the same problem. My mechanic said they have to drain the fuel tank, replace what ever detects the gasoline, and put it back together. You are looking at some hefty dollars. I've chosen not to do it but to just change my trip meter everytime I get gas. Whether my mechanic was pulling my leg or not...it said it could cost upwards to a 1000.00 to do the job. Knowing I get about 16 to 18 miles to the gal locally and upwards to about 24 to 26 on the highway....I don't have a problem watching the trip odometer.

Just to add. We did the same thing with our trip odometer until the fuel pump gave out. The gauge and pump are all part of the same assembly and can't replaced seperately. It cost around $600 when our mechanic did the work. The scary part about the gauge is, we got used to the odometer thing and thought we would do it for ever, until the van decided to die in a parking lot. It wasn't any fun getting out of work to go coordinate getting a tow truck to come pick the van up.

I have the same problem with my 1997 Silohoutte and my mechanic told me that it would need fuel sending unit.. spend big bucks!!

The fuel gauge doesn't have to be replaced when you replace the sending unit/ fuel pump--your mechanic snowed you. If it pegs to the right all the time--then it's your gauge, if it does whatever it wants when it wants it is your sending unit/ fuel pump.

Just to add....both of you or all of you could be correct. The fuel level sender is an electronic switch with an arm attached on the side of the fuel pump. It is usually integrally molded with the pump, however in this case, it can be replaced seperately. The downside to this is you do have to remove the fuel tank and then the fuel pump is likely to go out shortly after replacing it. GM is known for having a poor pigtail design on these senders, causing a short. This will cause the gauge to read full all the time. You can try to lower the tank, then replace the fuel pump pigtail(both female and male ends), or attempt to repair the wires on the top of the tank. The old style design caused the wires to rub on top of the tank, thus causing it to ground to the tank and short circuit the gauge. If I were to drop the tank on the van and it had more than 80k miles, I would replace the fuel pump module(assembly) though because GM is not known for having the most reliable pumps.

Where is the power steering reservoir?

On an Olds Silhouette it is under the cover for the wiper arms on the passenger side of the van

Fuel gauges peg out and when fuel is used bounce all over?

This is irritating, but it's no big deal, Your fuel gauge that sits in the tank is broken or loose, it costs more time and money than it's worth to fix. If you want get the new floater weight that goes in the tank, they're located on the fuel pump itself, but rarely can be found sold seperate. Raise your car off the ground, drop the fuel tank, remove the fuel pump, replace it, or the whole pump, and wala, it hopefully will stop bouncing and swaying all over the place at half a tank. Job usually takes about 3 1/2 to 4 hours and costs $5 to $500 depending if you can get just the floater and who does the work.

How do you replace a fuel pump on a 2000 Olds Silhouette?

The fuel pump is in the gas tank. You have empty the gas tank, disconnect the hoses and holdup straps and then lower the tank. The fuel pump/gas gauge module are screwed into the top of the tank. Go to the library and take out the repair manual.

How do you fix a transmission on a 1999 Oldsmobile Silhouette Van that is 6cyl?

Here are the checks if there is no drive in drive range; Oil level, oil pressure, manual linkage, 1-2 shift solenoid valve or TCC solenoid valve, forward servo assembly, 1/2 roller clutch, drive axles, oil pump. #3 check ball, torque converter, drive link assembly, input clutch assembly, input sprag, input sun gear assembly, input carrier, reaction carrier assembly, output shaft, forward band assembly, parking pawl spring, final drive assembly or final drive sun gear shaft. Pull the pan and check the fluid, if it smells, is discoloured, and there are any metal fragments in the pan and/or filter, the transmission must be replaced or rebuilt. Due to the copmplex nature of an automatic transmission, rebuilding is not for the DIY'er, even replacement on this particular vehicle is very difficult and requires a hoist and special tools.
