Are all 4 cylinder engines interference engines?
Not all 4 cylinder engines are interference. When the timing belt breaks in an interference engine the valves can cause serious damage.
A relay is a device which uses a small amount of power to control a larger amount of power. In the case of a starter relay, you want to control the large amount of power, sometimes up to 500 amps, flowing through that large cable from the battery to the starter motor. It would not be practical to run that large cable up to the ignition switch and then back to the battery. Instead, a very liitle amount of power (less than 1/10 amp)passes through the ignition switch to the relay, where it operates an electrical magnet that pulls contacts (a switch) together. The large power cables are connected to the switch in the relay, and once the contacts are pulled together the large amount of power is connected to the starter motor to operate it.
Where is the idle sensor located on the 2001 Saturn SL1?
it is located on the back side of the throttle body. the unit is held in by two Torx type screws. Please visit my BIO for a link to my website. there is a picture under the Sensors and Relays folder for your application. the IAC is highlited in blue
What does a low battery light look like on a 2001 Saturn?
what does a low battery light look like on a 2001 Saturn
The minimum price for a 1995 Saturn SC1 trailing arm is $50.
If you hear a creaking when you are driving coming from by back passenger side could it be a spring?
its your rear swaybar links had the same problem with my 96 sl2 changed them and that fixed the problem no more creaking
Where is the fuel filter located and how do you replace it on a 1995 Saturn SL2?
SHOULD BE LOCATED ON THE LEFT SUBFRAME RAIL UNDER THE BRAKE BOOSTER.
AnswerThe filter is definitely on the inside of the left frame rail, however unless you have access to a lift it is not an easy task. Lots of fuel will be released and most of it ends up in your armpit. There are special clips that need to be removed to disconnect the filter from the lines. If you bend the plastic lines you will need to replace them also. This is not a backyard job,and I would recommend having it done by someone with proper knowledge of the job. AnswerTo change the fuel filter you need to remove the line @ the intake manifold then remove 2 10mm nuts an bottom of filter bracket. Pull up slightly and release feed line attached on bottom of filter pop out return and vapour hose and remove Filter is located on frame rail under brake master cyl Answerprobably in the gas tank connected to the fuel pump but trace the lines under the car from the tank to the engine most likely it is close to under the driverside door New AnswerWhen I replaced my fuel filter it was easier to remove the left front tire and plastic wheel well to have clear access to the filter. The line is pressurized and will spout a good amount of fuel back at you when you pull the hard formed plastic lines. Be ready with something to plug or clamp the line closed. A second pair of hands really helps this. Its also tough to see without a trouble light that far down in the engine area. Be careful not to pinch the lines closed with the clips, this caused me some grief. This repair took me about 2 hours with an extra pair of hands.Where is the main computer on a 1996 Saturn SL2?
The "pcm" is located inside the passenger compartment under the dashboard tucked into the corner near the abs module on the driver's side. The pcm is easily distinguished by the aluminum fins attached to the bottom of the module.
Where is the quad driver located on a Saturn SL1?
The "quad driver" is built into the EMC/PCM (computer). Its NOT replaceable - the only way would be to replace the PCM. They are pretty hearty though - and I doubt you have a bad QDM. I would say the EGR solenoid would be a better choice of things that are bad. Eric
How do you drain the gas from a 1970's Beetle?
Get John Muirs -"How to keep your Volkswagen alive, A manual for the Compleat Idiot" and Bentleys "workshop manual". They have a huge amount of info, John Muir is a "real world" work-book and the Bently Manual is the VW "Official Workshop Manual" . Well i would either disconnect the fuel line that comes from the chassis metal line to the rubber fuel line to the motor behind the drivers side rear wheel, just get another fuel line and hurry and put on the metal tube so you can direct it where you want it. Or you can disconnect it under the tank in front, on the Passenger(?) side from the rubber line to the metal line that goes into the chassis.
What brand oil for 1999 Saturn sl2?
Any high quality motor oil will do well. Your owners manual should specify the minimum engineering specifications for the oil and those specifications should be listed on the oil container that you purchase.
Brand is not as significant as the engineering specifications.
However...
Many are using full synthetic oils in modern engines. Full synthetics produce MUCH less paraffin, and paraffin is the stuff that turns into sludge and engine deposits.
How do you remove and replace the head on a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird?
the head has ten bolts and you half to take them off first you hafto take the timing belt off and then the water and oil.take the thming brakit off and the top timing gear you can pull off the headnow put on new head with gaskit don't scrach the surfice!!!!!tightin new head bolts to like (95fps)or more make shour to youse new head bolts.
Could a faulty temperature sensor in a 1997 Saturn SC1 cause the car to not start?
Yes. The composite/plastic tips crack. This in turns causes the wire connection to corrode. Replace it with an updated brass tipped version from saturn. Clean the connection or replace it if neccessary. It is also availlable from saturn.
There are two places you can find relay switchs under the hood is the power distribution box. Inside the car to the left of the steering wheel down low there is a pop out section and fuse box behind it. There is the relay switch for the clutch relay switch
The fuses and relays are under the hood. Looking at the from the front it would be on the top left in a black box.
Where is ignition coil module located on Saturn s series 2001?
The S series Saturns do not use an ignition coil "module", instead, they are all equipped with what is referred to as a "coil pack".
The 4 cylinder engines have 2 coils. In a 4 cylinder engine, 2 of the cylinders reach TDC at the same time, while the other 2 are at the bottom of their stroke. Of the two that are at TDC, one will be at the top of the compression cycle (waiting for the spark from the ignition coil) and the other will be at the top of the exhaust cycle, ready for the beginning of the intake cycle.
In that configuration, it's more economical for the engineers to design the engine with a "coil pack" that is capable of firing 2 sparkplugs, even though one of them isn't really doing anything.
Open the hood and look down behind the radiator on the engine block. You should see two coils where the sparkplug wires are connected; two on each coil.
It is a switch that temporarily connects the battery to the starter
Gear shift linkage?
Remove gear shift from top and align
How do you replace the right side mirror on a Saturn 2002 SL2?
on the door directly behind the mirror there is a plastic cover, carefully pry this off as it is held in with clips. once this is off, you will see some foam you just simply pull the foam out it is only a small pice. after the foam has been removed you will see three ten milimeter nuts. remove these and BECAREFUL not to drop them into the door. once these nuts are off you will be able to remove the mirror after unpluging the power control harness. install is reverse of removal
Where is the valve that you add the R134a to a 2004 Saturn?
your supposed to b certified for that and if you dont know where the valve is its unlikely u are
Another Perspective
Certification is primarily necessary for anyone using the old Freon. The requirements for 134-A are much less restrictive.
To find the schrader valve, follow the refrigerant lines out of the AC compressor. One is the "high" side, and the other is the "low" side. It's pretty obvious which is which, since the high side goes to the condenser (attached to the radiator) that means that the OTHER line is the low side.
On the older Saturn S series, the schrader valves were right next to the AC compressor, but you had to search on the L series. Just follow the AC lines either way from the compressor and you should be able to find the schrader valves.
Where is the radio fuse in a 1991 Saturn Sl?
The interior fuse box: There are two fuses, The first is the one that says "Radio" 5amp and the second is one labeled "Chime" for some reason both seem to control the power to the radio.
How do you know the fuel pump is the problem?
Put key in ignition. Radio and everything else should be shut off so you can hear the fuel pump turn on. Turn key to start position. If you don't hear a hum/whine sound coming from the fuel pump, that means the pump is not working. Check for loose connections in the wires, a bad ground connection, or replace the pump altogether. Because it's not turning on and sending any fuel to the motor.
