What would cause a Saturn SW1 starter to not crank when engine is hot but start normally when cold?
I would check the starter solenoid before I investigated the starter - it's likely the cause. Have someone try starting the car hot while you measure the voltage between the starter side of the solenoid and negative - you should get battery voltage. If not, the problem is the solenoid (or somewhere before it, electrically).
Replace your ECTS. Also make sure the fan works and all fuses to it are good. fan should come on at 3/4 per the guage. normal operating temps are 1-2mm above 1/4 per the gauge.
How do you remove the heater fan in a 1999 Saturn SL-1?
The blower is located under the passenger side dash above where a persons feet would be. There are three screws holding the blower cover on. remove them along with the connector and the blower will come out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQTDoxpE9xY
Your not at idle when your accelerating but I know what your saying, my 97 does the same thing. Usually, the cause is the more than crappy gas I've seen sold lately at certain places. Best advice, on your next 2 fill ups, run high octane, 93 or so. Also, with both those fill ups, throw in a black bottle of STP Super Concentrated Fuel Injector Cleaner. This stuff is great. I have a feeling it will clear up. I just did the same thing and it runs like a top again.
When does your Saturn sl2 timing chain need to be replaced?
Timing BELTS are outside the engine, run dry, and have no external lubrication. Timing BELTS should be replaced according to the manufacturers schedule.
But the SL2 is not equipped with a timing belt, it uses a timing chain. Timing chains are internal, well lubricated, and designed to last as long as the rest of the engine. You shouldn't need to replace the timing chain until you rebuild the engine.
It might be a fault with the anti-theft feature. Ford has had several recalls due to this. Web search for safety recall on faulty key-in-ignition chime. I had the same problem with my 1998 Ford Explorer Sport although it started chiming all by itself. On my Exlorer there is a set of 5 wires in a yellow sheath running from the ignition module to a brown connection point/harness in a very uncomfortable position directly under the steering column above the pedals. I unplugged the connection at this point. This stopped the key-in-ignition chiming but I still get the chime alerts for headlights left on, initial chime when the key is turned. The pinging, or ringing chime comes from the multifunction computer located under the dash behind the radio. Hope this help.
Another possibilityIt could also be caused by a stuck door ajar sensor.See "Related Questions" below for much more about dealing with door sensors.
On one of my older Taurus' I simply followed the irritating noise to the source, up around in the neighborhood of the fuseblock.
There was a simple wire connection to pull off and the silence was golden.
Major information: The 90's series of Taurus's all had a weak ignition lock. Once it is worn it is possible to remove the key without the ignition switch being fully locked, when this happens the "key in" chime will sound, just as it does when you leave the key in the ignition. This has NOTHING to do with anything EXCEPT the ignition switch itself and is easily serviced by replacing the lock, a relatively simple procedure.
Where is the horn located on a 1999 Saturn?
The horn is located at the front drivers side of the engine compartment. It is fastened to a support member that holds the bumper in place. You can see if you look up towards the front from the ground just in front of the left front tire.
Have you call your local library. That might have one in the reference area.

How do you replace the clutch in a 2002 saturns sl2?
To replace the transmission clutch on any stick shift vehicle, remove the engine and/or transmission.
The engine and transmission must be separated since the clutch is between them.
Pull the flywheel and have it resurfaced.
replace the flywheel, following recommended procedures.
Use a new pilot bushing/glan nut.
Replace the clutch disk using a NEW pressure plate assembly and be certain to align the disk using a pilot shaft.
Re-install the engine/transmission in the reverse order that you took it/them out.
Where is the brake bleeder valve located in a 1996 Saturn Sl2?
The bleeder valve is a 8mm bolt for the rears located on top of the drum or on the caliper itself if you have disk rear brakes.
For the front, a 10mm bolt is located on the caliper itself.
PB blaster should be used to be sure the bleeder valve is not broken
Is it normal for a 1996 Saturn SL1 to only have 17 pounds of manifold vacuum?
according to my service manual, the manifold vaccum should be like this:
Intake Manifold Vacuum (no load) --- 51 - 21hg at idle
Air Inlet restriction (no load) Between air filter and Throttle body 20hg at 4000rpm.
51 - 21hg roughly relates to 25 -10 psi
I also found this:
Crankcase Pressure/vacuum -- No load positive pressure
standard 4in H2O at 4000rpm
Service limit 10in H20 at 4000rpm
never knew you would need a water scale to diagnose a car :(
... its all the information i could find
Just to add an important note.....vacuum will only be measuring in inches of water column....you will NEVER see vacuum measured in pounds for a car. This may be helpful to you if you are looking for a vacuum gauge and none of them use a pound scale. (It will also help when explaining your problem to a mechanic)

Does a 2000 Saturn 1.9 liter have a timing belt or chain?
The 4 cylinder Saturn engines used an "Oil bath" timing chain.
The V6 Saturn engines used an "external" timing belt.
What are possible causes for bent valves?
One of the most common reasons for bent valves is a broken timing chain or belt.
A twin cam is an engine that has two cam shafts (which open and close the valves). The most common reasons for two camshafts are: If a V-shaped engine design uses one cam shaft for each side of the V - obviously, if a V engine has overhead cams, you would need a cam at the top of each side of the V. Also, a straight in-line engine with two intake valves and two exhaust valves per cylinder might use twin camshafts.
Actually, I V-6 or V-8 engine with one camshaft on each head in a overhead cam configuration is still considered a single overhead cam. The only time an engine is classified as a twin cam or double overhead cam is when there are two camshafts on each cylinder head. A double overhead cam V-6 engine would have a total of four camshafts. Two for each head.
How do you remove the spark plugs on a 1997 Saturn sc2 coupe?
to remove the spark plug on a 1997 Saturn SC2 Coupe
go to the Part store get your new spark plugs first, that way you can make sure you have the correct size wrench to turn them out.
pull your wire, (one at a time not all at once) they go deeper into the valve cover than a normal spark plug does. The plugs are no different than any other plug. Pull one at a time, I like to replace the wire along with the plug at the same time. Make sure you have an extension on your ratchet so it will reach far enough in the valve cover. (remember the valve cover does not get removed to remove the spark plugs) To put the plugs back in I like to use a piece of vacume tubing, on the top of the plug so that you don't cross thread the whole, with the wrench. the vacume tubing wont let you put that much torque on the plug. If you use the Dual Spark by Bosch you don't have to set the gap on the plugs either and they don't burn hot enough to hurt your engine.
Replace one at a time and take your time. There are only 4.

How do you remove the gear shift knob on a 1995 Saturn SC2?
automatic, or standard 5 speed
Answeron a 5 speed AnswerWell.. i have a 98 sc2 5-speed and all i did was remove my center counsel. there are about 2 screws on both the pass. and div. side, about in center-rear. a plastic cover might conseal it. just use a flat tip or a pocket knife to open it. Just look carfuly and you shouldn't miss it. you might have as try in the rear of the counsel so you should just be able to take it out. lift from the back first and then the front of the counsel. The plastic part for the radio and the thermostat might clip on to it so you might have to take that out too. I know i didnt. There will be wires for going to your window controler and dim light so you should just be able to quick disconnect them. this should expose the likage for the shift knob. Move the leather cover for the Kobe out of the way so you have more space to work with. I replaced it the original with a shift knob that was 3'' shorter. but if you just want the actual knob itself then it should just come right off by pulling.you might have to turn it about 90 degress and then pull it but im not too sure about that..all i did was replace the knob with linkage (short sifter)you have to tear it off because the shifter has a c clamp inside the material part of the shift knob.
