Serpentine Belts

The thead on the pully bolt is reversed. Pulling on it with a spanner in the anticlockwise direction will lock up the thread and reduce tension on the pully arm but its spring loaded so you need a friend to help or one hand free to slip the belt off while your holding the pulley back.

The main bolt that holds the pump on is 14mm and you need to loosen it about 6-7 turns out. You can do that through one of the two holes in the pulley. I cut the old belt so I could hand turn the pulley and line up the hole with this main bolt. BTW, I found all of this easier when I took out the battery, that will provide more working room.

The adjuster bolt is below the pump and is a 12mm bolt. You loosen it to push the pump closer to the engine in order to get the belt on, then tighten it to pull the pump away from the engine to tighten the belt. This bolt head goes into the engine, so your socket should be perpendicular to the direction of the truck. The main bolt mentioned above is aligned with the truck, so standing on the passenger side, you can use your right hand to push down on the ratchet to loosen the bolt.

LOOK! It is right there applying tension to the belt. If you can't find it, then you have no business attempting to replace it.

One of the pulleys is out of alignment,usually it is the tension pully. Replace it and problem will go away.

You need to specify the year, make and model of the vehicle, and the size of the motor before anyone can give you an idea.

go to the Dayco belt website. they have system there for you to put in your make model and engine size ... they have the routing diagram for all the belts. It's a great service

get a new belt. loosen your belt tensioner. take off the old belt. look under your hood or on your radiator support for the diagram that shows how the belt runs from pulley to pulley. tighten the tensioner. then...good to go.

idler pulley is adjustable it rides on the same belt.

The six-cylinder engine doesn't use a serpentine belt. It uses two belts, one for the alternator and AC, another for the power steering. The four-cylinder might since the belt drives the alternator, AC and power steering.

In any case, removal and replacement are about the same. Take a close look at the belt routing. Maybe even take a picture if you think it'll be necessary. Relax tension on the outside (in the case of the six-cylinder) drive belt by turning the tension adjustment bolt on the alternator clockwise. Remove the belt. The maintenance manual says you have to remove the inner liner of the right fender and some other bits but if you're patient that isn't really necessary.

Replace the belt(s) the reverse of the way you removed them. Be sure to center it/them in the pulley grooves. There's a special belt tension gauge recommended for tightening but you can use the old 'shade tree' method. Deflection at the center of the belt should be no more than 1/2 inch along its longest run. For the small v-6 belt that deflection is about 1/4 inch. Check again after you've driven a couple of hundred miles as belts stretch when new.

If it is a serpentine belt the idler pulley more than likely needs replacing. If it is a drive belt you are adjusting it too tightly.

Depends on which car and which belts.

It will be the smooth pulley(s)-not ribbed.

Most likely one of your pulleys/accessories has a bearing going out and seizes intermittently causing it to fly.

find tentioner pull counter clockwise. this will relive presure/remove belt. Reinstall

There is no set mileage to replace the belt. Inspect it for cracks and or frays. If you see cracks or it is frayed or worn then replace it. Also if it becomes stretched to the point it slips, replace it.

i belive u can use a helf inch wratcheck or breaker bar, look on the tensioner there should be a square whole, if not use a socke the fts the bolt on the tensioner pulley, it will only goe one way to relives the tension one which direction relives the belt tension WOW... If you are looking at your engine from the front of the vehicle, you will notice on the left (passenger) side there is a small pulley (about 2.5in diameter) on an arm. if you have the engine running, you will probably see that it moves slightly. On the arm between the pulley, and the mounting bolt for this assemblt, there is a small square hole that is the perfect size for a 3/8 in socket wrench, or breaker bar. Insert your socket wrench, or breaker bar, and pivot counter clockwise. This may be difficult, if you are having trouble, try with something longer for more leverage, or slip a metal pipe (longer than your wrench) over the end of your wrench to provide more leverage. This will loosen the belt tension, and you should be able to remove it. NOTE: If your belt routing sticker is not in good shape, you may want to draw the route yourself before removing the belt.

Yes, 4 Valves per cylinder, and the spark plugs are located at the top of the cylinder head, through the valve cover and are seated between the 4 valves.

take off the old belt and try to turn all the pulleys, all should turn freely except for the crankshaft, (the big one on the bottom)

ok there isn't a fan belt. there is a belt that does the altanator and water pump, and another belt that does ac/power steering. your better off replaceing both at the same time. you have to just loosen the bolts that go to the part and some of them you can only see from under neath the car. then you should be able to take both off and replace them. its a pain in the butt to get the v belt back on. very tight fit

Yes, there is an alternator belt. Yes, there is a power steering belt. However, the alternator belt is commonly referred to as a fan belt. As he said, the v belt (that is, the fan/alternator belt) has a very tight fit. If you loosen the alternator enough, though, it's not too hard to put on.The first thing you do is take off the power steering belt. You have to loosen the belt to do this, though. Once you've taken off the belt, loosen the alternator. Once it is moving freely, the alternator belt will come off relatively easily, especially if you have a screwdriver or a tool designed for that purpose (it has a name, but I remember not what it is). Now put the new alternator belt onto the pulleys made for it (you will probably need the afformentioned tool for this; I have every time, as far as I remember). Tighten the alternator and make SURE that the belt is also tight. If the belt is not tight enough, it will break and you can have a very, very bad problem on your hands. When that is done, put back on the power steering belt, or put on the new one, if you do them both at the same time (as he said, it's a good idea). You will probably need the tool used on the alternator belt to do this. Once you've made sure that the belt is fit properly onto the pulleys, tighten it.Now you're done, or, at least, I hope you are.
