Serpentine belt replacement: (1)rotate the tensioner counterclockwise (2.3, 2.5 and 4.0 engines) or clockwise (3.0 engine) to lift it off the belt. Slip the belt off the pulleys. You don't. they are not adjustable. Its a spring tension on it, therefore you would have to replace the tensioner which only takes one bolt to get the tensioner off. Same thing to re-install the new one!

4 cyl and 6 cyl are different. The 4 cyl has an idler pulley on the under side of the engine and you must remove the skid plate to gain access. Once you gain access,loosen the nut on the idler gear a turn to a turn and a half is all. Then loosen the nut that tightens the pulley until you can remove the belt. On the 6 cyl you need to remove the battery and loosen the nut and mounting bolt that attach the AC to the engine. Just loosen them enough to let the unit flex up and down. Then move in the direction necessary to get the belt off.

This is a very common question.
I had to take mine off and put it back on when I replaced my alternator.
One of the pulley looking things that the belt goes around, is a tensioner. It seems to be located in a couple of different places, dependent on which engine you have and perhaps which build of either engine. Mine (a '96 SE) has the tensioner located just behind and down a bit from the alternator. You can recognize it by it's shiny polished surface. At the center of the tensioner pulley is a nut. I think mine is about 13mm. You can put a wrench or a socket on it and rotate the entire tensioner away from the belt, thus loosening the belt. While holding the tensioner, pull the belt off the other pulleys. Installation is essentially the reverse.
However! This is really a job for two guys. It's nearly impossible to hold the tensioner with one hand and locate the belt with the other. Also, make note of the routing of the belt. My car has a diagram under the hood. Yours might or might not have that diagram. If not, Make a drawing of the belt routing! It's imperative that you get the routing right. (This is one case where my Haynes manual didn't really help me much, but I suggest you buy one anyway.)
When you have the belt back on, start the car and watch the belt for a few minutes just to be sure that everything is aligned properly and that the belt doesn't jump off.

Loosen the tensioner pulley. The serpentine belt will become loose and can be removed. Put the new serpentine belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley.

That is one big belt that operates that help turn the pulleys for the AC, Motor, Fan Ect.

More than likely your power steering pump is not working correctly for some reason. It is possible that the belt could be loose. If the belt is making a squealing noise when you turn the steering wheel very hard, the belt is probably loose. if the belt doesn't make noise it is most likely OK and you may have a problem with the power steering pump.

It has been a while but from what I remember you need to put a floor jack under the motor and pull the bolts from the upper engine mount. Lift the engine enough to slip the new belt passed the mount and install on the pulleys. Fricken engineers!!

use a 1/2 inch ratchet on the pivot point on the tensioner pulley, and turn to take tension off the belt...then slip the belt off all the other pulleys.

install the new one, by squeezing it into a small loop that can be inserted into the space between the tensioner, and the idler pulley, loop it onto all the pulleys per the diagram located on radiator cowling, take tension off the tension pulley, to get it back on completely and release the tension slowly..making sure it is lined up correctly on all pulleys

If your belts are still intact, drawing a diagram of them before removing them is usually the best way to ensure you're doing things correctly.

There should be one under the hood, either on the radiator housing or above your head, on the underside of the hood. Also, there is one in the repair manual available at AutoZone or NAPA.

When you get your new belt, ask the sales people to print the diagram for you. Most of the stores have access (such as AutoZone). I just rerplaced mine with my son and it wasn't bad at all (end at the belt tensioner). Other than that, have fun!

Hey Anthony==There should be a schematic on the fan shroud. If there isn't, draw a picture before you remove it. Put a wrench on the bolt in the center of the idler pulley bolt and pull it up and it will let you take the tension off of the belt. GoodlluckJoe Chiltons or other svc manual add** on most models the drivebelt diagram is on the radiator panel cover. if you can not locate the diagram try this site ALLDATADIY.COM (Do It Yourself Automotive Diagnostic & Repair Information)

One of the best places to start could be a dealership. If you don't want to go that route you can always look it up using a Haynes or Chilton repair manuals.

I don't have the exact schematic for you, but I can tell you it's probably under the hood somewhere near the belt and pulleys. If it's not, a good rule of thumb is to look at the pulleys. Some are grooved and some are smooth. If you look at the belt, it's the same thing. The grooves in the belt line up with the grooved pulleys. Start with the tensioner, that is usually smooth. From there, the pulley above or below it will be grooved. Just match the belt up on the pulleys and you'll be fine. If you can't do it, buy a repair manual. Good luck.

You can also Google replace belt on (say 1996 Plymouth voyager or whatever your working on) and it will give you correct diagrams

There is a tension bolt on the alternator (point up), but that does nothing unless you loosen the bolt just below it (points to passenger side) and the larger one that it pivots on at the other end of the alternator (points to passenger side). Once all three are loose you can back out the tension bolt by hand and replace the belt. Very easy, 20 minutes max. WD40 may be of some help on the bolts to get them started.

Before starting make sure you check tension on belt so you can tension new belt correctly.

if its the one im thinkin you are talkin about ,theres a spacer on one of the bottom bolts that comes out after you that the bolt out. then the belt slips through the space, so you dont have to take off the motor mount bracket.

There should be a belt diagram under the hood.
