The actual "firing order" of the engine is 1-2-3-4-5-6.

The coilpacks will be setup as follows.

If you have the Vortec 350 ci: Standing in front of the radiator all the odd number are to your right beginning at the one closest to the radiator and moving to the firewall 1.3.5.7 all the even numbers are to your left beginning at the one closest to the radiator and moving to the firewall 2.4.6.8

when you remove the timing cover front youll notice a plate welded on the back of the timing gears they have a diamond shape on them that's the timing marks the other is on the plastic as far as crank goes make sure its on a compression hit and get it top dead center

The firing order on all Dodge trucks or vans with a 318 V8 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

since it is an interference engine, alot can be damaged, really depends on how much it jumped,if say one tooth you probably ok to just replace timing belt. If say the belt jumped 25 teeth or belt broke, then possible major damaged could result like valves bent, piston damaged, overhead cams damaged. now if your asking in theory what happens then this is what happens: the relationship between dual cams ( camshafts ) and crankshaft timing goes off to the point where the relationship between them is wrong to not let the engine physically turn correctly,( causing mechanical damage ), and electronically off for engine firing position ,cam sensor, spark plug firing timing and order. Either way it is not pretty !

The distributor is not "timed". It is Synced to 0 degrees with a scan tool. IT can not be done with a timing light.

Get a 13/16" spark plug socket and remove one plug at a time. Gap the new plug at .035. They are NOT pre gapped at the factory and you'd better make sure you check them. If you're not sure how, ask the guy where you buy them to show you how. Apply a small amount of anit-sieze compound to the threads and put the new plug in. After you get the new plug in, remove the wire from the distributor cap by pulling it straight out. Find a new wire as close to the same length as you can and put it in the cap and then on the plug. If you'll do it like this for all eight plugs, there's no way you can get the wires crossed. If you yank all of the plugs and wires out at once, you'll then have to get #1 piston up on top dead center on compression stroke and then remove the distribuor cap and see where #1 wire should go. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and it rotates clockwise. Really a simple job. Shouldn't take you more than an hour.

It is either out of time, the plug wires are not connected correctly, or the distributor is off 180 degrees.

Change one plug at a time. Start by removing the "boot" covering the spark plug. Leave wire connected on other end. Use ratchet with "spark plug" attachment. Remove old plug, insert new plug. Attach new wire. Follow old wire to the correct connection. Remove old wire. Connect new wire. Continue until all plugs and wires are changed.

Timing - 4 degrees BTDC
