I just had this same problem with my 1998 VW Jetta. My parking brake light came on one day, but only half illuminated. Shortly after my windshield wipers and headlights stopped working. There is only one crank sensor fitted, you may also have a cam sensor. the crank sensor is located either around the bellhousing or around the front crank pulley. It either has 2 or 3 wires. It picks the signal off the revolving crank so look for a sensor in the block near flywheel.

I had the same thing happen on my Chevy and it was the power steering pump that went bad. Usually under $200 to replace and not to hard to do your self or a mechanic can do it in 1-2 hours.

The "orange" stuff is a permanent anti-freeze. While technically it's not really permanent, relative to the green ethylene glycol, the newer stuff certainly seems to do a better job. If the vehicle has been set-up to use the orange anti-freeze, your car will serve you better if you use THAT. If you're not always opening the anti-freeze, changing it, putting in tap water to mix with anti-freeze and all of the other problems that go along with it, your radiator, water pump, hoses and heater core will all last longer. Use the stuff that the manufacturer recommends.

You need to go to a parts store and buy a repair manual for your car, it would have the diagram well picture to know you what you need to know. I like Haynes repair manuals in that they are easier to understand but Chilton is just as good. Oh if you can not find a repair manual then try your library they also carry repair manuals for cars and then you could find what you need there. If your car has two belts, then the power steering belt and the air conditioner is on the same belt. Then the other belt the drive one, runs the engine, water pump and powers the power steering and air conditioner too. But a picture would help you understand that better so the repair manual.

why don't you know what you're talking about next time before you give someone bad advice. any eclipse 95+ has 4 belts, timing,balance shaft, power steering, and serpentine. Besides the serpentine belt each one only does 1 thing the p/s belt just runs the p/s pump, the balance shaft spins the balance shafts in opposite directions, the timing belt keeps time and the serpentine runs the altenator,water pump, and a/c if you have it.

The more accurate model is now the "Induced fit model", because enyzmes and substrates (the chemicals they act upon) are not naturally able to fit into each other. Instead, each substance changes its shape a little to accomodate the other.

It doesn't have one. VW says the transmission fluid is for the "life of the transmission." Scary.

I have it but even if you have electrical expirience. The diagrams are a pain the way they are drawn. I have a manual I purchased which covers ALL details of the car not just the back yard mechanic stuff.

Its on a part called the "gooseneck". follow the upper radiator hose to the engine. It hooks to the gooseneck which houses the thermostat. The sensor will have a wired plug hooked to the top. This is an incorrect answer above. The temp sensor is in the driver's side head,between #1 & 3 cylinders. There is one green wire going to it.

remove the reflector next to it first and then the light comes out easily. both are held in place with spring clips. the bulb comes out the back. having a vw requires a shop manual. it will pay for itself when you dont have to pay someone to change that bulb for you

I had the same situation on my 1998 Cabrio. I diagnosed the problem as a "no crank" situation rather than a "no start" situation. with the key on, (vehicle in neutral and the parking brake on for safety) I jumpered the solenoid on the starter and went directly from the battery to the starter with a heavy gage wire. This should have cranked the engine over but it did not. This indicated the starter was bad. I replaced the starter, end of problem. Hope this helps

I have a 2001 VW Cabrio and the fuse box is located under the steering column on the left side. It's a rectangle box with two slots on the short side that open the door. The door should be a flip down and the inside of the door has the fuse "map" for what each fuse affects.
