Your 1996 Jetta has an oil leak somewhere How easy is this to fix Is it costly?
many times the leak is from the pcv line where it enters the motor. standing in front of the motor, put your finger on the top of the oil dipstick tube and move it straight back toward the motor. there is a plastic(!) tube about 5/8" in diameter connecting to the motor about there and running up and to the left. that tube is held in place by a steel "U" clip. pull the "U" clip straight up and you can pull the tube forward toward you out of its socket. the oil seal is the rubber o-ring around the enlarged portion of that tube. clean everything up, inspect for cracks. you can get another o-ring at vw for less than $5. if the tube is cracked, a replacement is less than $30.

Your most likely problem is your ignition module...Its a computer on the left side behind the battery....Just follow the hose from your air cleaner it will lead you right to it.
This happened with my lebaron as well, but it turned out to be the oxygen sensor was shorting out.
If this doesn't solve the problem...try replacing the ASD relay. (auto shutdown). We had that problem with ours

Have someone check it out, It could be the shock/strut or possibly a ball joint or tie-rod end. This just happened to my brother. He heard a creaking sound and did nothing about it and eventually...1-2 months later the tie-rod snapped off when he was pulling into the driveway, luckily it didn't happen on the highway or it could have been a disaster.

Locks that are operated by a key from both sides have two sets of tumblers i them. It is best to get a new lock or contact a locksmith to have new tumbers installed. Soon it will not be able to unlock from either side. If it is new then something inside is defective or broken and if it is old it is probably worn out.
