Lift the car on a vehicle jack, remove the tire and set it aside, remove the brake shoe/caliper, remove the brake pad. Dispose of the old brake pad, put in the new brake pad, replace the brake shoe/caliper, put the tire back on the car, and lower the car to the ground.

I really depends on what distributor you have on the engine. It could be a mechanical advance distributor or a vacuum advance distributor (stock). Google "the Somba" Volkswagen forum and all will be explained.

Check the brake light switch. This can cause the brake lights to go out. There have been a couple of recalls on the 2001 for this exact problem. Contact your local VW dealer and have the switch replaced.

A camshaft synchronizer is a device driven off the camshaft that couples to a sensor that tells the car's powertrain computer at what point of rotation the camshaft is. The information from the sensor is used by the powertrain computer to time the spark that will ignite the air-fuel mixture in the cylinders. Many engines using camshaft synchronizers are older designs that were originally designed to have a conventional distributor; the camshaft synchronizer mounts in the same place as the distributor used to.

Remove the 3 plastic wing nuts in the trunk on the side you have one burnt out...pull the lens cover off from outside the car...twist the harness for the light that is burnt, pull out the bulb...replace the bulb and reassemble.

One advantage is that front wheel drive (FWD) cars have less drivetrain loss of the engine's power. In other words, the horsepower rating that you read in magazines and advertisements isn't the real HP that makes it to the wheels since there is mechanical loss between the engine and the wheels. FWD cars have less distance between the engine and the wheels, so less power is lost.

Another advantage is fuel economy. Generally, FWD cars get better gas mileage. Just think of a typical FWD car- a Corolla- vs. a typical RWD car- a Ford F-150 or a Mustang.

Last advantage I can think of is its stability in snow. Contrary to popular belief, all-wheel drive isn't necessary to drive safely in the snow. FWD does well in the snow because so much engine weight is directly over the wheels that are driving the car.

Finally, FWD cars tend to understeer, which is usually seen as a bad thing by auto enthusiasts but can be considered a good thing by parents who want their kid driving a safer car. Understeer means that a car, when pushed to its turning limits, doesn't fishtail like a RWD sports car can but instead just kind of stops turning. It can encourage safer driving.

There are plenty of benefits of RWD that I won't get into here.

Some of the older cars would blink fast when one of the signals on the front or back on the same side would burn out but i don't know about both of them blinking fast. You might see if you have a coulple of signals out. It might just be a corroded contact on the bulbs.

The fuse that controls the 12V outlets in the front of a 2004 Beetle will be coded with a title that resembles the words, cigarette lighter. They might also be coded as 12v outlet.

Get a tune up, but first see if when you push the clutch all the way in is it still even slightly engaged because if it is then tighten the cable.

Your battery is probably dead/dying. At idle (like when you stop), the charging system isn't always putting out enough juice to keep the car running on it's own, so it uses the battery to keep it running. If your battery is dead when it needs that juice it isn't there and the car dies, then because the battery is dead the car can't turn over and restart itself. I would have the battery checked first, and probably replace it. Also get the generator/voltage regulator checked to make sure it is charging the battery sufficiently.

It is an easy procedure. Tilt back stearing wheel and remove cover from cluster. Just pull it out, be carefull of airbag. Once the dash cluster cover is removed you will see two torx screws remove these and gentley pull forward and out. On the back are two pin connectors right and left. One blue the other green there are pink connector holders on each pull out onthese. There is limited room to work, but can from drivers seat. If you replace you must use the original cluster or reprogram the new one for immo. If not your car will run two minutes and shut down, You can use the Vag Com Commander to reprogram new cluster, but first you need PIN code for immo.

That is a corrosion inhibiting wax. It protects the sheetmetal from corrosion- but in hot climates will sometimes drip out onto the rocker panels creating a dirty streak.

This problem is common and I have seen many answers. The selection that makes some sense accumulated below. BUT I have now discovered the problem is simply the operator is NOT holding the down switch down long enough. Operate it until the motor noise stops...until the bell chimes and the little identifier changes back to time and temp. That's all!

This is a biggie: Make sure the arm that you pull and twist to unlock is totally fully clicked back in its holder before opening. There is definitely a sensor that says this is in the strong position.

In the bow next to that mechanism (near a securing spot) there is a sensor that goes bad. (One of the more common reasonable sounding answers (found above too) - especially as the car ages - it seems 5+ years and one can imagine where it is gets a bit rusted).

Same idea as above - and because of what it is - the sensor is just dirty and confused. Try cleaning with something that does not leave a residue.

Again the idea above, but with better - where and how. (This just sounds like the million $ answer for most): There is a small switch where, when closing and securing the top, it triggers the flaps to close. Location: passenger side windshield frame. What to do (might move the seat back and stand up). Place your pinky finger pointing in toward the driver's side and you will feel a little metal switch. You should be able to lift this up and down with your finger. Get some electrical grease and coat the switch as best you can. The problem is that a great deal of road grime accumulates and covers the switch.

Assorted suggestions to disconnect the buzzer or electrical: All bad. These cars like most modern ones have computer checks that do NOT take well to any override.

Clean all the seat buckle connectors. The top has sensors for these too. Maybe has grease on it?

The dual key turn in the driver's door to unlock fixes alarm problems like this in many cars.

You have to take off the plastic intake cover there are a few screws holding it on. This will expose the front 4 plugs. To get at the rear 4 you will need to remove the spark plug coil packs, there are 4 bolds on this assembly I believe, then you can get at the back 4 plugs. Some of these may also need to be accessed from the bottom of the car, if you have big hands.

a crappy car. my 99 beetle has the same problem. brake light switch new, bulbs and fuses new. brake lights just work whenever the heck they want. this is one of the many reasons my car has a for sale sign in the window. good luck.

It is on the passenger side, just above the belts. It is back towards the fire wall, and the housing makes an elbow. It has three bolts holding the front housing to the rear.

Under the hood of car from the back of the headlight, release/flip the two retaining wires holding the cover over the lights and remove cover, unplug the wire harness from the bulb (there is a clip on one side), remove the black retaining ring that secures the bulb in place by turning it counter-clockwise, slide bulb out from the rear, replace with new bulb (careful not to touch bulb with fingers as dirt and oil will shorten the life of the bulb), assemble in reverse manner. This is for replacing bulb only.

Note that on the driver's side there is a bulb access plate held on by two Philips head screws. This side is the same as the passenger side but has very little room due to the battery cover. You may need to remove the battery cover assembly in order to get to the bulb. Be patient. Use a pair of needle nosed pliers to unclip the cover and the wire harness.

Even with the limited access both bulbs can be changed in under 30 minutes.
