it isn't logical to remove the starter, dissasemble it, and attempt to fix it. if you are going to do that much work....REPLACE IT.

"isn't logicial" what are you nuts!! it takes two little(but long) bolts to take a starter apart and a whole 20 minuets to replace the brushes. why the hell would you pay 100-200 for a "referbished" starter; or god help you 250+ for a brand new one when the brushes cost 10-30$. just make sure it is the brushes and not the drive gear(look for pits in the copper lines) those things tend to get expensive, usually as much as a referbished unit. ~isn't logicial LOL i bet that guy works for the government~ The best place to buy starter/alternator rebuild kit(or individual pieces) are repair shops/electrical stores that deal only with starters and/or alternators

It is to alert you that there is a problem in the air bag system causing it to be disabled. If your horn does not work then you have what is called a clock spring that is bad. If it works you can have it scanned for codes to tell you what is wrong. Under NO circumstances should you attempt to work on the system as it is very DANGEROUS. It needs to be left to a certified shop.

BEFORE YOU DO THIS: Be aware that if you are doing it because of a a knock sensor code, it is most like uneccesary. A knock sensor is a passive device that has no effect on normal engine operation. Mercury Villagers are notorious for throwing knock sensor codes when nothing is in fact wrong with the knock sensor (which produces no current under normal conditions). Because of the way emission components are wired, problems in front oxygen sensor wiring harness (common) or the throttle position sensor can also cause this code to be set. Many of these sensors are replaced uneccesarily. Know also that this is a fairly involved job which will take the better part of an afternoon if you are fairly skilled. You will need to drain and refill the cooling system, and you will be disassembling a number of pipe connections that have to be reinstalled with either aftermarket gaskets or assembled with RTV, which can be tricky to get right without leaks.

Here is the procedure for replacing the knock sensor on a '01 Mercury Villager:

--Removal--

1. Remove the lower intake manifold.

2. Disconnect the heater core hose from the coolant crossover tube. (refer to the diagram in the 'related links and sources' portion of this answer) Release the clamp and disconnect the hose.

3. Release the clamp and remove the lower radiator hose from the coolant crossover tube.

4. Remove the water bypass hose from the thermostat housing. Release the clamp and remove the hose.

5. Remove the coolant crossover tube. Remove the bolts and tube.

6. Remove the Knock Sensor (KS). Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the bolt.

--Installation--

1. Install the knock sensor and bolt. Connect the electrical connector.

2. Install the coolant crossover tube. Position the coolant crossover tube. Install the bolts.

3. Install the water bypass hose. Position the hose. Position the clamp.

4. Connect the lower radiator hose to the coolant crossover tube and position the clamp.

5. Connect the heater core hose to the coolant crossover tube. Connect the tube. Position the clamp.

6. Install the lower intake manifold.

all o2 sensors are located on the exuast pipes. most cars have about four, before the cat. converter and after. just follow the pipes one before one before the catalytic converter and one after nowhere else will these be located I know that for a fact O2 sensors for this car is only a bout $60 or less don't get hooked into higher price AutoZone Murray's and all other is about the same AutoZone will have it in stock at a good day

Just had this problem and it was bad coil pack so it was only running on 5 cylinders

because your on board diagnostic system says there is a problem. Take it to an autoparts store, chances are they will test it for free and let you know the possible solutions.

You didn't say year, but most after '97 are 7mm Allen key.

There is one under neath the hood towards the back on the driver's side and there is one under the dimmer switch on the driver's side inside the car

The windshield washer pump 10A fuse is in a fuse box located under the hood near the battery.

Chevrolet has come out with a service bulletin indicating that the 10A fuse is inadequate for circuit operation.

Chevrolet is suggesting to increase fuse size to 15A.

Depends what is wrong with the transmission, and the condition. If it is something major like gears needing replaced ($250+), your looking at a lot more money. Possibly transmission fluid needs replaced for easier smoother shifting, which is no big deal ($5-10). Hopefully the whole thing will not need to be replaced or your looking at a few thousand dollars!

Why would you want to know what is was worth 2 years ago? Does it really matter. I can tell you what it is worth today, but not 2 years ago, if I know the condition and mileage.
