How do you put on the alternator belt for a Mitsubishi galant 1998?

How I was able to do it was first loosen up the tensioner and then lift up the alternator. Its a 1/2" wrench to do this. Then go around the alternator and on top of the other gear and then get the bottom gear on last. sometimes the belt is really hard ot get on so you may have ot muscle it some. Then tighten it all back down.

Could a loose serpetine belt cause your alternator to go bad on a Sable Wagon Car is not charging needed a boost numerous times?

That's certainly possible. The best way to diagnose a problem like that would be to go to one an auto parts retailer such as Auto Zone, Kragen or whomever is in your area. Most provide free ignition system diagnostics in hopes that you'll buy your parts from them. They should be able to detect an alternator problem, loose belt, bad tensioner, old, tired battery or whatever your problem might be. Then you can get the parts and repair it yourself.

What causes the alternator belt to keep breaking om 1994 Toyota Tercel?

Possibly the alternator bearings are going out, the belt might be adjusted too tightly, or another device powered by that belt could be going bad. The water pump is commonly powered by the same belt as the alternator, and the bearings in the water pump could be intermittantly siezing up momentarily. Check all pulleys used by the alternator belt, except the crankshaft pulley, to make sure that they turn freely, have no play, and do not grind when turned. When installed, the belt should have about 1/2 inch (12mm) free play along the longest reach of the belt. If there is not sufficient play, the belt will break very quickly, and all components driven by the belt will be damaged.

Would alternator connectors cause a battery light to be on?

yes if one of the wires was getting an earth from the alternator cover or rubbing off the engine the battery light is really an alternator light warning you that the alternator is not charging the battery

What is the meaning of SI wymbol in 40SI alternator?

98 ford f150 at high RPM the low bat light comes on?

Until an expert improves this answer, a layman's view will have to do. I drive both a '93 and an '89 F-150, and am not experienced with your newer model. However, the symptom you describe is generic in nature, and I suspect is the result of a drive belt which slips only at high rpm, allowing the alternator rpm to decrease, triggering the low voltage indicating "idiot" light to come on. As always, it is possibe that the cause could be from some other source, such as, possibly, a defect in the voltage regulating circuit which reduces the alternator output during periods of high rpm. Still, my first suspect is the slipping drive belt.

Why is your dodge ram gen light on and truck lose power while driving?

Battery Low Voltage can cause engine Power Loss

I am not familiar with your vehicle and thus this answer will be generic in nature and applies to all spark plug using internal combustion engines.

IF the "gen light" [charging system idiot light] is ON, then that indicates that more electricity is being taken out of the battery than the charging system is putting into the battery.

If that's the case, then over time the battery voltage will become less and less. At some point, the voltage to the primary winding inside the ignition coil(s) will get so low that the output [supposed to be very high voltage] to the distributor system and spark plugs will be reduced significantly.

When the voltage of the spark plugs is significantly reduced, then the spark is not "hot" enough to properly ignite the "richer" fuel/air mixture at higher throttle power settings, resulting in "loss of power" and sometimes "missing" [also known as misfiring.

Why would the battery light come on a 2003 Ford Taurus even after the battery alternator and starter have been replaced?

you may need to go to your local shop and if they are equiped with one get them to attach there scanner to the vehicle and clear the codes for you.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1989 Honda Accord?

Some opinions, summarised to several main approaches, are below. However, you are advised not to try this at home unless you know what you are doing, and even then, this advice is not guaranteed to work.

If you don't know what you are doing, take it to a shop and get it done by professionals; it will save you time and money since you will end up doing that anyway.

  • You do not have to remove the driveshaft. Roll the alternator to the right side of vehicle. Disconnect the bracket holding a water pipe to the firewall and turn the alternater around 'til you can pull it through all the hoses up and out. Take your time to be sure not to damage the hoses. Disconnect what vacuum hoses you need to and remember where they go.

  • Remove the air intake housing and the alternator will come out between the firewall and the intake maifold. This will only work on the FI engines. To remove the alternator on a carburetor enhine you must remove the half shaft from the transmission and take it out the bottom or the car.

  • disconnect bottom of left front strut with front left jacked off ground. This extends strut and with a bracket removed that is attached to back of left side engine block (2 bolts--14mm) there's almost enough room to drop alternator through. So you have helper stand on front steering knuckle brake assembly solid parts to extend strut 2 more inches and alternator drops through.

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable then carefully jack up the crankest remove the splash guard under the front of car. here it gets a bit tricky if you don't know the parts....disconnsct the left drive shaft from the steering negligent the multiple connector on the back of the alternator and unplug it. remove the clip from the harness bracket. OK, now you are going to remove the terminal nut and unhook the white wire from terminal b. remove the upper bolt and nut to remove the belt from the pulley. while holding the alternator up, remove the bolt that goes through it.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1996 Buick Regal?

Best to get a shop manual for this operation, if you have not replaced it before. Usually there is an "Idler Pulley" on many late model cars that is "spring loaded". You "Bias" this pulley (usually with a socket wrench) so that the serpentine belt has enough slack in it so you can remove it. Then you disconnect the Positive Battery cable, disconnect the "Field Wire" harness and Positive battery lead from the alternator, unbolt and remove the alternator. Reverse procedure to install new alternator. TommyTrouble

If I replaced battery in 98 Dodge Intrepid 3.2 l still won't start just a click when you turn key is it the alternator and is the voltage regulator inside the alternator on this model?

By your decription I would think your starter has a "dead" spot in it, to double check this have someone turn the ignition key to start as you tap the bottom of the starter, if it turns over, shut off the engine (if it got started) try it a few more times, if it hits that dead spot again, replace the starter.

What are signs that you have a bad alternator or that its about to go out?

Bearing squeel?

Use a voltmeter to check alternator output.

A fully charged battery should read approx. 12.8 volts without engine running

With engine running voltage should read approx. 13.8-14.2

How do you change alternator on 1990 ford ranger 2.9?

First disconnect the battery so you won't mess with live wires. Now there should be two bolts holding the alternator on, the one on bottom is long and the top one is short. Loosen the top bolt first and the alternator will pivot down and the belt will come off. Undo the bottom bolt and then unplug the wiring harnesses from the back or the alternator. Put your new one on the same way you took the old one off, adjust it to get the belt tight, then connect your battery.

Do the wires cause the alternator to go out on a Ford Taurus?

It is possible that 'wires' can cause an alternator to fail - such as dead-shorts in high power circuits.

More often though the bearings go bad, or the internal components wear out.

One other source of problems for alternators are bad batteries causing high-stress/strain - can lead to premature failure.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1995 Saturn SC1?

1.disconnect the negative battery cable 2.Remove the serpentine drive belt. Use a wrench on the tensioner pully to remove belt. 3.Raise and support the vehicle. 4.Remove the right front wheel. 5.Remove the right wheel splash shield. It is two parts. 6.Remove alternator dust shield. Its attached with one bolt and one clip. 7.Remove the two sets of wires from the alternator. One has a clip to connect it to the alt. and one is bolted to the alt. be very gentle with the bolted one so you will not break the plastic insulator (especially during reinstallation) 8.Remove the upper and lower attaching bolts from the alt. The top bolt is easy to get to from the top of the car, the bolt is just below the power stearing unit. 9.remove the alt. through the wheel well opening. 10.To reinstall alternator, follow these steps in reverse.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager?

How do you replace the alternator on a 1998 Chevy Lumina 3.8L?

to the alternator ?**IMPORTANT** You must first disconnect the battery's negative terminal. **IMPORTANT**

The battery is located just under the front of the windshield washer reservoir. Remove the cross member over the washer reservoir, remove the two plastic posts holding the reservoir (the center pins pull straight out with a pliers). Then you will have ample room to use a wrench or pliers to remove the negative terminal.

Then you remove the belt by putting a 3/8 drive rachet or breaker bar in the square hole on the tensioner (just under the roller) and pull it towards the firewall.

Remove the positive battery cable from the post on the alternator.

Remove the nut holding the power steering pump lines (10 millimeter) this is located on the back of the alternator close to the firewall (You will see the plastic clip holding the lines the nut is just below that clip).

Remove the nuts holding the bracing bars to the engine (near the valve cover).

Remove the two bolts holding the alternator (on the flanges). The lower bolt has a free wheeling nut on the back; you'll have to reach under and hold that nut.

You can lift out the alternator, but be aware of the lower bracing bar that may have to be loosened on the alternator to facilitate removal. Once the alternator is out you can easily remove the wiring from the rear.

How do you change a serpentine belt on a 1997 Chevy Tahoe 4WD V8 w ac alternator voltage type unknown?

Near the top of the engine is a tensioner assembly. The pully can be pushed back using a breaker-bar and the appropriate sized socket. Note the layout of the belt before removing it because there won't be much help if you can't figure out how to put it back. For the record, all GM vehicles since mid 50's have been 12 volt.

--improved response--

The belt tensioner pivots with spring tension against the back (smooth) side of the belt. The tensioner arn has a molded square hole in it - this hole takes the end of a 3/8" drive socket wrench, which you then use as a handle to give you leverage to go against the tensioner spring with one hand, while removing the belt with your other.
