before trying to replace the ignition switch try spraying a small amount of lubricant into the keyhole and insert key and wiggle it in the switch to see if the keepers are stuck. if it works it could save a lot of time and money

check your fuel filter it might be clogged for letting it run empty. bottom of the tank is the dirtiest where all loose particles are.
(had a similar problem with my 92... It was the ecm... If your not getting spark but have fuel pressure than i would pull it out and open it up... The capacitors go bad... Gives it a fishy smell...

Did you change the camshaft?. 351 w has a differnrt firing order than the 302. Check that also. Have you checked the positioning of the distributor, is top dead centre in the firing position to fire No 1 cylinder? as per previous answer, check the right firing order. Are you getting a strong spark? Dont pour gas down the intake and flood it, it will either not start due to too much gas, or, if there is any missfire, dont be leaning over the intake when it blows a 3 foot flame!! Make sure you run it 30 mins to seat valve lifters when it eventually starts.

Will it start if you use jumper cables? Assuming that the car will start if you use jumper cables, get the vehicle started then remove the jumper cables. Use a volt meter to measure the voltage across the battery. You should have somewhere near 13.5 volts if the alternator is working properly. If the voltage is 12.5 volts or less, replace or rebuild the alternator.

closest to the driver is the highest cylinder, also everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the library should have a professional shop manual available in the REFERENCE section...make copies of the right sections...good luck :)
I'm not a Mechanic and I am having the same problem with my Bronco. According to what I have been reading the part in question is the Ignition Lock Cylinder. Sometimes they get dirt in them and just need a little lubrication like WD40. I am going to try this on mine tonight and will let you know how it goes. If this doesn't fix the problem then you will probably have to replace it.
my bronco has a stiff key to turn as well, if you were driving one day and your truck died, you could have a clogged fuel filter, or a bad fuel pump $175 new, i replaced my fuel pump by cutting a whole in the floor behind the back seat, wouldn't recommend that unless your confident your not going to cut the tank hoses. also if it trys to fire but wont quite catch and run, maybe new plugs?

Recently, my LR Disco II started great after sitting in the garage for about 2 weeks, I had to turn it off after running it about 2 minutes to run back inside the house. When I returned to start it 5 minutes later, all I got was clicking when I turned the key. I jumped the Disco with another vehicle and drove it to the dealership for maintenance. Dealer service manager said that that their battery analyzer indicated one of the cells in the battery was not holding a charge...ended up buying a new battery.
