It sounds like your VSS(Vehicle Speed Sensor) has gone bad, which will turn on your check engine light.

bad ground from either the battery or engine block to the body plus, year make and model would be helpful.

Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem

Turn the ignition key to the on position (do not start the van) and immediately step the gas pedal to the floor 5 X within 5 seconds. Repeat if it does not reset.

to check if reset key off and start van lamp should go out within a few seconds..

In the similar situation Mazda dealership thought it's the distributor that needs changing.

The check engine light can come on for a variety of reasons including transmission problems. It is best to have the code checked to see why the light is on. Many auto parts stores will check the code for free.

if it blows again you have an electrical short somewhere.

The security is keeping it from starting which is what it is supposed to do.

AZ can not scan any suzuki below 1996 period.

only factory scan tools can do that. $4000 tool + but the OD light means the transmission computer has stored error codes. this puter is called a TCM for the 4speed electronic automatic tranny. http://www.kick-fix.com/Blink.html

this car has 3 ways to blink lights. ECU TCM and brake RWAL controller.

each one has a jumper connection and the manuals in stores do not cover them all. my link shows how to do all of them.

The check engine lamp, just jumper the DLC connector diagnostic request pins. it will blink out an error. (the ECU talks to the tranny TCM) and can set the ECU DTC for the tranny too. DTC = diagnostic trouble code. all you need is a paper clip for a tool , nothing else.

A blinking overdrive light and the check engine light on most likely indicate the transmission range sensor (TRS). For detailed info, have the vehicle scanned at a local auto parts store (AutoZone, etc,) that offers free scans. If you want to retrieve the codes yourself, go to your local public library and check out a repair manusl (Haynes or Chilton) for your vehicle. Detailed instructions on how to retrieve the trouble codes and what each code means are in chapter six.

if the vito is upto 2003, you have two butons below the speedometer press the one on the left and switch the ignition on keeping it depressed for ten seconds or until you get a beep . JOB DONE

Yes, the camshaft position is critical for both compression and ignition reference. That is valve timing. But there is no code to tell you your valve timing is off. There is a Camshaft Position Sensor, check for voltage at the connector, broken wiring or corrosion and then ohm out or replace the sensor. Get e repair manual and learn about your car, you'll save money, I promise...

possibly air in the gas tank. this happens sometimes if you keep pumping a little at a time, trying to get to an exact amount. It could also be water in the gas tank. this happens in cold weather sometimes. you can buy a bottle of drygas or something similar at a gas station. it only costs a few bucks and gets the water out. it could also be some kind of debris in the gas tank.

After repairing the cause of the code, you can clear it with a scan tool.

It can be a myriad of things. Drive the car to a trusted mechanic and have them scan the ECU with an OBD2 scan tool. The tool will retrieve the code that has been set. This code will tell you what parts are being effected and a possible repair.

definately sounds like an electrical problem probably the altenator.

Have you checked you oil levels? it could just be it is a little low and as the sump is not baffled all the oil will be swirling from side to side especially when going around a corner!

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.

i had the exact same problem with our 91 voyager, i cleaned the battery terminals and the problem went away immediately

Misfire is caused when a cylinder doesn't ignite its fuel mixture. Suspect a bad plug, coil, or wire. This will not be caused by a mass airflow sensor, that can cause a rough idle or bad fuel economy, but will not cause an individual cylinder to misfire.

Driving with a continuous misfire condition will eventually destroy your catalytic converter. If your check engine light is flashing you are doing serious damage to your cat converter.

If check engine light is on, have a parts store read the code. It will tell you there is a random misfire and usually what cylinder is misfiring. Replace the coil pack for that cylinder and all will be well.
