98 Volkswagen jetta Wolfsburg edition When hitting a puddle the car stalls and shakes check engine light comes on you recently changed head gasket did a tune up changed all wires it still shakes?

Possible causes in order of likelyhood: water entering distributor or individual plug wires (through cracks) Have you changed your oil? Has there been any sign of water in it? (Water usually appears as a whitish sludge or drops). If so: Water getting into engine through: airbox air inlet manifold inlets between head and block (if improperly machined or installed) I had this same problem. Check the coil for cracks, there could be a crack near the spark plug connector and its making a spark jump outside the coil into the cable. Of course water will make it easier for the spark to jump out. I had to buy a new coil for about $50. Good luck! it could also be your distributor cap/ignition wires/rotor. if there is a bad seal on any of them, it will leak water, and shut the motor down. its happened to me a few times.

Nissan 01 Frontier SE w service engine soon light comes on. I check the engine it sound likes the air is leaking somewhere around the engine Please help w answer Thanks?

Check the Vacuum system for loose hosesSounds to me like a vacuum leak. Follow all the lines of the vac system to try and pinpoint the leak. If no leak found there youll wanna check for a good seal around the intake. Be sure the boot is intact and all bolts/screws are tight. To get a better feel for what your looking for go to autozone get a free diagnostic. If it tells you a sensor that has to do with the intake, you should check there. If it says EGR or any other sensor that has to do with the vac. system check there.

LISTEN CLOSELY FOR NOISE VERY POSSIBLY A LOOSE HOSE

Vacuum Leak

I agree, it is most likely a vacuum leak. You can use carb or throttle body cleaner to help find these leaks but DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE THIS TECHNIQUE ON A HOT ENGINE! If you do this while the engine is hot you could set your engine on fire. Take the carb cleaner and spray a little around the vacuum hoses and listen for an idle change. If the idle changes you have found the leak.

1998 Subaru Outback with check engine light on Auto Zone said it was the knock sensor Checked the ohm resistance It read 540 ohm resistance Any advice It came on again?

The first tlme the chk eng. lite came on in my "98" Outback I panicked. In Calif at the time & garage wanted $110.00/ hr. but friend said not to worry. It happened rt aftr I tnkd up in Oregon. Lt cleared after considerable driving but happened again eventually. The cause was from the attendant not tightening the gas cap tight enough. Book states to give it AT LEAST 3 clicks. I've had no more trouble since adhering to this simple rule. Hope it works for you!

What do you look for when the check engine light comes on in a 1999 Breeze?

You look for the little plug where you connect the OBD2 code scanner, then you read the computer code to find out what's wrong.

The "check engine" light indicates that the computer has a "code" to tell you, meaning that the computer has detected a fault.

The computer is trying to do the work for you, you just need to read the code.

Has anyone had problems with a 1999 Mazda miata engine light staying on?

http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=380017

This explains it all.

I did this and had my codes reset after doing lots of other things this gets the job done right! Vacuum hose rerouting evidently the factory sent out the 1999's wrong and you don't see the problem until later on BUT THIS FIX WITH PICTURES AND DIAGRAMS IS VERY GOOD..... then have your codes reset.

I have had mine done and Ive been good for over two years!

What causes the check engine light to come on on a 2001 Toyota Echo?

There any many possibilities, but some of the most common are not replacing the gas cover correctly (tighly until it clicks) and the airbag sensor becomes unplugged (common after changing the oil). Make sure you're keeping up on replacing the oil, water, antifreeze, air filter, etc.

My light came on my 2001 Echo and I replaced the air filter (which I learned is not automatically changed at each oil change) and the Check Engine light would not go off. Tried this trick:

.....Also, you could: "disconnect the negative battery connection. Press your brake pedal down for 10 seconds. Reattach your negative battery connection. The computer will be reset." ......

And voilà; ready and rearin' to go !

"Turning off the warning light" seems dangerous, but it really isn't. If the problem is REAL, the light will come on again the next time it is detected. If it is only a one-time glitch, you may never see it again. If it keeps coming back, THEN you should worry...

2000 malibu-it hesitates to accelerate after about 50 mph and check engine light is on. What could be the problem?

If the check engine light is on use the computer diagnostics to find the problem. You can usually borrow, rent or buy an OBD2 code scanner from most auto parts retailers. After you've resolved the problem reported by the computer, see if the hesiatation problem still exists. The light on just tells you that there is a "fault code". If you follow the computer diagnostics you'll waste a lot fewer parts.

How do I reset service engine soon light on a 2000 model villager?

Many auto parts stores will do this for you. If you would rather, just disconnect the negative battery cable, wait for five minutes, and reconnect it. That will reset nearly everything. My question is "Why did the light come on in the first place?" Ignoring the light could, at the least, cost you at the gas pump, and at the worst, leave you with more costly repairs in the future.
