Trouble code P0440 means:Evaporative emission control system malfunction

disconect from batery, and if it stays off till next 10K milles its OK.

When you open the door a switch is closed and that turns on the interior lights. When you turn the key off and exit the car the lights are kept on by a timied relay. I would think that the most likely culprit would be the door switch. It may be loose or misadjusted and randomly making contact. Look inside the door frames for the switch and see if any are loose. Push on them and see if the lights go out. Make sure one of them is not "Sticky". TommyTrouble

THE CHEAPEST, quickest thing to try is to disconnect one battery terminal (neg.) for about 20 minutes. Then reconnect. This will sometimes reset the light and the computer. Doesn't always work, but can't hurt to try. The " check engine light" is by far one of the most misunderstood technological advances It is a warning light that is illuminated when there is a problem affecting the EMISSIONS of the vehicle.. One point that was brought up a recent meeting of technicians was that the amount of hydrocarbons is greater when the gas cap is left off than when the engine is running. Hydrocarbons are part of pollution emitted as gasoline evaporates. Going a step farther, one facet of the emission system is the "Evaporative" portion. This is when the fumes from the gasoline are leaking from the system into the outside air. This is one part of the emission system that can trigger a check engine light. I would say a small percentage of the vehicles that have a check engine light are the result of a loose or inadequate gas cap. But understand that many scenarios are possible with the "check engine light" The vehicle's powertrain computer (note that some vehicles have multiple computers aside from the powertain computer) will run a series of self-tests. On most vehicles, "Check Engine" won't be activated if it's a fuel problem. The manufacturers don't want to "store a code" if the vehicle just ran out of fuel. If it's cranking but not catching, try a little starting fluid directly into the intake while someone attempts to start the engine. If it catches, you probably have a fuel delivery problem, either fuel pump, pump relay, filter, pickup screen, fuse or possibly even something else.

Unhook the positive post to the battery for approx 10 minutes. That SHOULD take care of it IF the problem that triggered the light is fixed.

Those are your DRL's (Daytime Running Lights). Some manual transmission cars' DRL's illimunate after releasing the handbrake.

Depending on the year of your vehicle it could be the factory immobilizer. What is the year make and model of the vehicle?

P1646 is a fault in the heater or sensor of the upstream O2 sensor. It is the light grey plug on the firewall behind the engine and leads to the sensor unit itself on the rear bank exhaust pipe. A replacement sensor is between (UK) £65 and £120 depending on where you go. Beware of the generic 4 wire sensors as their specs are not quite up to Jaguar's. BTW. It's a b*tch to get to and you need a 22mm socket with a slot for the wires to go through.

It means your car is in need of service; take it in to the shop immediately. At least, have it checked as soon as you can.

The alternator has A specific connection that is for this job, When there is power to the alternator and the alt. is not making power it will light the bulb. When the alt. begines to make the desired amount of power it will automatically turn off the bulb. If the light is removed the alt. will not charge, because the light is also used by the alt. as verrification.

Go call the Toyota car company or headquarters and ask the people who made the car.

Trouble code P0332 means: Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2)

to clear a "check engine" light on a Volvo 940:

First you have to plug the test cable into socket 2 for fuel injection or 6 for ignition codes. The codes are read as groups of red led flashes.

1)turn the ignition switch to "run" position, press the diagnostic button for 5-8 seconds, then release. the LED would come on.

2)press the diagnostic button for over 5 seconds until the LED goes off.

3)press the diagnostic button for 1-3 seconds, if the LED shows "1 1 1" , that means the DTC have been cleared.

Try to reset any engine warning lights after the situtation if resolved by disconnecting the positive post of the battery for at least 30 minutes. This gets the computer time to possibily reset and eliminate the warning light.

try the solenoid controlling the egr

P0455 means a gross leak detected in the Evaporative Emissions System. Some call this a "gas cap" code, because the most common cause a loose or failed gas cap. But it could be caused by any vapor leak in the fuel tank, filler neck, or anywhere else in the vapor management system. If it isn't a gas cap, you will need tol take it someplace where they have a smoke machine that can find the leak using smoke.

Go to the fuse that is on the battery terminal, and remove it for about 20 seconds, then put it back in. This will reset the ECU which will rid you of the check engine light. If the problem that caused the light to come on is still present the code will be set in the ECU and the check engine light will be turned on again until the problem is corrected.

It probably has nothing to do with the dual exhaust. O2 sensors just... fail. Use the original equipment sensor as a replacement. Usually you can only expect 50 to 60 k miles from the newer "heated" o2 sensors. BTW, if one bank goes bad, replace them both. The other one is getting ready to go and even if it keeps going, it's not giving you the performance you need. Just replace them. It will save you fuel and the vehicle will run better.

p1300- Random MissFire

p1301- cylinder 1 missfire

p1303- cylinder 3 missfire

P0470 is Exhaust back pressure sensor malfunction.
