There is two pins connector under passenger side above carpet floor. To check the error code of engine light, turn off engine, short this conector, turn on ignition switch (don't start engine), count the engine light flashing. The flashing will flash long and short. For example, two short flashings followed by three long flashings indicate error code #32. Then, check with error code to see what the problem it is. You can reset error code by pulling off fuse (farest corner close to driver) in engine compartment fuse box. You may lost clock and radio settings. Good Luck!
So where is this, when i pull back carpet all i see is this HUGE silver box, is it up under the dash, like near the blower motor? and how do i "jump" this connection? just confused?
Sounds like the catalyst in the exhaust is collapsing. High concentrations of raw unburnt fuel can cause the cat to disolve. unfortunately its the old chicken and egg theory. Has the cat broken down due to the engine only firing on a few cylinders, hence the low power or is the cat collapsing and blocking the exhaust stopping fumes escaping and slowing the engine down. I would first make sure the engine is not misfiring(it accelerates smoothly with no shuddering) I would definitely change the cat as this will be the source of egg smell and the damage will be done. Not a good idea to drive it like this as its only going to get worse and do more damage. Hope this helps

Does the Service Engine Soon light indicate major problems?
I hope this clarified the other misinformation which is currently published and posted on the net (regarding this subject).
:Okay, pay attention please, you need to disregard that entire answer that obviously the person who wrote it made there own assesment, not according to the facts. Service engine soon is Nissan's and other manufacturers check engine light, yes they are the same. The light means your vehicle needs an engine diagnosis to pinpoint one or multiple problems. These codes appear because the emmissions, ignition and overall performance of the motor is compromised. The problem could be a run down sensor, vacuum leak or ignition(timing) problem. The code will get you looking at the right system on the vehicle but not always the exact problem. Good to pay engine Dio if unsure.
How do you turn off the maintenance required light on a 1992 Jeep Cherokee?
After much BS from several dealers I have concluded that this does require a trip to the local dealership to have their little black box attached to the on board computer so that the lamps can be turned off. They call their black box a DRB "Diagnostic Reader Box". Before 1996 this is a DRBI which I believe was the precursor to the OBD systems that are currently used. The only dealer I talked with that knew what was causing the lamp to be on (talked with 3) wanted $45 to reset it (plus undisclosed sums for other things that they may find with their black box once they hook it up). I have personally elected to remove the bulb since it doesn't impact the operation of the engine.
(A different remedy is take it to an auto parts store. Most can diagnose the problem and reset the light. Those lights are there for a reason. By removing the bulb or ignoring it larger problems can occur. Machineryman)
What year is your c-class, its not 50 differant things, if you tell me what year it is, I could narrow it down to about 5 differant things it could be for you, just let me know.
What causes the check engine light to come on in your 2000 civic Si?
Could be many things. The ECU will put out a certain signal for what is triggering the light. To read this signal you can buy a reader or most autoparts stores will do it for free. Problem with the Emissions system. The " check engine light" is by far one of the most misunderstood technological advances It is a warning light that is illuminated when there is a problem affecting the EMISSIONS of the vehicle.. Don't let it bother you as it is a good thing once you understand it. One point that was brought up a recent meeting of technicians was that the amount of hydrocarbons is greater when the gas cap is left off than when the engine is running. Hydrocarbons are part of pollution emitted as gasoline evaporates. Going a step farther, one facet of the emission system is the "Evaporative" portion. This is when the fumes from the gasoline are leaking from the system into the outside air. This is one part of the emission system that can trigger a check engine light. I would say a small percentage of the vehicles that have a check engine light are the result of a loose or inadequate gas cap. But understand that many scenarios are possible with the "check engine light" The vehicle's powertrain computer (note that some vehicles have multiple computers aside from the powertain computer) will run a series of self-tests. They will only run under certain criteria. And they are different from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some self-tests or

Can you check Toyota check engine codes without special tools?
Depends on the year...if it's an OBD1 car (typically before 1996) you can manually access the codes and find out what they are by watching the "check engine" light blink. If it's an OBD2 car, then no...you have to have a code reader. The good news is that many auto parts stores will read the codes for you for free. Just be careful listening to their diagnosis.
Why does the check engine light come on in a Honda?
The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to AutoZone or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.
The "bus" is the wires the computer use to talk to each other. You either have a bad computer or a problem with the "bus" wires. You need a scan tool to see how many different computers(pcm, abs, cluster, airbag,....) are communicating and have codes.
