How do you replace fuel pump on Chevy 2000 Express conversion van?

Answer

The fuel pump is in the gas tank. It is not easy , first before you do it make sure that is the problem.Get a auto manual if your not up to it take it to a good repair shop and be ready to pay $600.00 to $700.00 to have it done.

on those vans the conections usually go bad before the pump, check the wires under the van by the front of gas tank.this happend to me.

The best way to tell if it's working, is to listen for a sort "whine" for about 5-10 seconds when first turning the key to the on position without trying to start the engine. The noise you hear is from the fuel pump in the gas tank.

Having driven several of these vans over several years, 99% of the time, the failure will be the pump itself.

As far as replacement, if it's a cargo van and you're not too concerned about the floor in the van, I measured and cut a hole with a hole saw over the gas tank (carefully) where the fuel pump is located. Then I could pull the pump. No dropping of the gas tank, but you will have to cover the hole and seal it so that no exhaust fumes can leak into the van. I used a thick piece of metal, gasket material and sealer with screws for the next time I might have to do this. You also have to be careful you don't puncture the top of gas tank and a spark from drilling into it could be a "Ka Boom"!

They were a common failure problem.

Honda Sedans have a plate over the fuel pump in the gas tank in the trunk. Makes for easy replacement. Their pumps aren't cheap though. About $175

1999 land rover disco 2 with 228000miles replaced starter but when hot it will not start the motor will not turn over after it cools down it starts any ideas?

Yep. When the wire is cold, the current flows from the battery to the starter very easily. As things get hot, the resistance in the wire becomes so great, and the current needed to crank the engine is so high, it just cannot push enough current to the starter until the wire cools down again.

That's the cause. I suggest you go explain it to someone at Pep Boys for the cure, because other than replacing the wire to the starter I have no cure for you. Maybe that IS the cure.

Where is the egr valve located on 1999 Astro?

It is just below the throttle body. Follow the air intake from the filter to the tb. It is cylindrical in shape and has a 5 wire connector. You can see it in mine without removing the air intake ducting.

How much should it cost to replace a head gasket on a 1996 Saturn SL 1.9L DOHC?

If the work is to be done by Saturn, Expect to Pay between $1100.00 and $1250.00

I am doing the same project, just picked up the headgasket and headbolts from O'Reilly for $42. I'm waiting to see how bad the intake and exhaust manifold gaskets are before I spend the $7apiece for new ones. I'm broke, lookin to do this as cheap as possible. lol

If your cooling system is full of oil, you'll need to flush the system VERY well with a mild detergent, and then TONS of water to get all the remaining oil and detergent out. If you have oil in the cooling system, Saturn will tell you to replace your radiator/hoses/waterpump. I am not doing this, just am flushing the system throughly. I have done many headgaskets before, and have never had any adverse results from not replacing radiator/hoses/waterpump.

Once you have the cylinder head off, that needs to be planed or resurfaced, to make sure your new gasket will seal properly. This costs $40+tax at engine shops here in WI.

After buying new oil, coolant, the gasket(s), and headbolts, plus the cost to resurface the head, I'll be getting this done for somewhere around $160-$225.

If this is your first time replacing a headgasket, this would be the motor to do it on. The 1.9L single cam is easy to work on, and there's not much to get in your way or make things difficult.

Best of luck!

My 95 Jeep Cherokee sport windows don't work wouldn't go up or down what can i do?

Leave them up and fix the A/C Take it to a qualified mechanmic Cant diagnose over the computer -- First, check the fuse/circuit breaker under hood or in fuse panel. (see owners manual depending on year)

One thing to check is the splice for ground wire (black) in the flex-boot between door and frame. The door switch only has that one path to ground, and will make your mirrors/windows/lock quit working. If the switches light up (97+), but the windows don't work, then this is not your problem. The other windows also won't work if the harness splice failed, as they see the window lock button as "locked".

Use a test light at the connector to the window controls, there should be 12V between Tan and Black, larger diameter wires. If no voltage, check TAN to Chassis Ground (lighter outlet edge), if no power there, look for fuse or trace back the tan to kick panel. If you have power to chassis ground but not at connector, then check continuity from larger solid black wire in connector to chassis ground.

The splices in the flex boot are a common problem in 90's Jeep Cherokees causing problems from mirrors to speakers. Running a new wire is easier than trying to find/fix the splice.

Why do rear doors not open but the front doors open?

It might be very simple. You have to check cigarette lighter fuse in fuse box under steering wheel. It's connected with back door lock. If if happens again when you change fuse you might have some electric issue with a lighter.

Remove motor cover 1995 astro van?

I'm assuming you do not have the owner's manual, because it explains how to do this on page 6-13, so I'll tell you what it says. 1-Move both front seats back as far as they can go. 2-Remove the instrument panel extension ( the thing with the two cup holders and the ashtray ) by removing the two screws on each side at the top of the extension, and the two nuts on the bottom. 3-Grasp the bottom of the extension, lift up, and pull out. 4-Diconnect the connector for the cigarette lighter. Set extension aside. 5-Grasp the top of the heater duct and pull down gently to remove. 6-Remove bolt from engine cover bracket, ( this is about a five inch metal piece at the top right ) loosen the nut on the other side of bracket, and move it out of the way. 7-Lift up on each of the two latches at the bottom of the cover 8-Remove the two screws at the engine cover using a long handled screwdriver. These two screws are on the sides of the cover, about 1/4 of the way from the top. The screws do not come out of the cover, only from the dash. 9-Grasp the bottom of the cover and slide it backwards. Then, lift it up and out of the vehicle. GOOD LUCK

How do you replace the alternator on a 1995 Chevy Astro?

New for the Chevrolet Astro/GMC SafariI just did this on a 1992 Astro EXT cargo van having the Z-code 4.3-liter V6 and automatic transmission; I previously performed this operation on a 1994 Starcraft Conversion Astro (EXT) having the W-code 4.3-liter V6 and automatic transmission.

On all the Astro/Safari vans I've seen, the alternator is located on the passenger side of the engine.

Recommended tools:

  1. 8mm box-end wrench or socket (not all will need)
  2. 10mm DEEP box-end wrench or socket
  3. 13mm box-end wrench or socket
  4. 14mm DEEP box-end wrench or socket
  5. 15mm box-end wrench or socket
  6. 3-inch socket extension
  7. 3/8-inch-drive ratchet
  8. steel "butter knife" or suitable substitute
  9. teflon tape or other "thread sealer"

If you elect to use a 1/4-inch-drive ratchet in lieu of the 3/8-inch-drive ratchet, limit its use to 10mm-or-smaller sockets: the threaded fasteners in this application having larger heads require greater torque than can be safely and reliably applied using 1/4-inch-drive hardware.

Read this entire procedure first, then decide whether this is a project for you to attempt.

There are significant minor differences to the specific procedures involved, to wit:

(1) Always observe all applicable safety procedures.

(2) Disconnect the cable from the positive (+) battery terminal. For some vans, you will need an 8mm socket or wrench; for others, you will need a 10mm socket or wrench.

(3) The power steering reservoir is in the way on vans having the Z-code engine: leaving the hoses attached and avoiding tipping of the reservoir, remove and save the screws that hold the reservoir to the cowl; then bend the hoses and rest the reservoir on the driver's side of the radiator shroud.

The air filter box is in the way on vans having the W-code engine. Open the clamps that seal the box, remove the filter: the nuts and bolts holding the airbox in place are visible. Remove the airbox, saving the hardware.

(4) The ductwork supplying the engine with fresh air is in the way. Usually, these plastic pieces just click together, but there may be one or more clamps, nuts and/or bolts, or screws holding some of it in place. The offending portion consists of the following pieces:

(a) the lower part that turns the air about 90-degrees, so that the air flows upwards,

(b) the upright section that channels the air upwards (it looks like an accordion's bellows on the Z-code engine),

(c) the upper ductwork connecting the upright section with the air filter housing.

I have heard that some ductwork installations are secured using #2 Phillips threaded fasteners (screws); if yours is such an application, you will also need a #2 Phillips screwdriver.

(5) Remove serpentine belt. The ratcheting tool that looks like a long, flat handle -- it came with the vehicle as part of the lug wrench kit -- has an opening that fits the pulley on the tensioner. Using the tool, loosen the tensioner with one hand and slip the belt off using the other hand.

At this point, whether you need to remove the fan from the front of the engine should be obvious. If you must, be aware that so doing without removing the shroud really isn't going to give you much room (about 1/2 an inch, maybe an inch).

If you need more than that, the shroud has to come off so that you can remove the fan. Although at 13.5 inches (34.3mm) circumference and 14.5 inches (37.9mm) circumference respectively, my forearms and upper arms are rather small, I think that needing to remove the fan to have enough room is a highly unlikely condition.

(6) Remove the engine oil dipstick bracket from the stud holding the alternator to the bracket. The nut securing the dipstick bracket is probably a 10mm. Remove the dipstick bracket from the stud. Be aware the dipstick tube could slide from the engine.

(7) The alternator bracket should be loosened from the front of the engine. Remove the bolts (it should be a trio of 14mm bolts) and save them. This allows the bracket, tensioner and alternator to be tilted away from the engine. At least one bolt may be wet with engine coolant; seal the threads of any such bolt before reinstalling it.

(8) Use an appropriate tool to unclip the plug from the alternator (I used a "butter knife), and remove the red wire from the lug at the back of the alternator. The nut securing the red wire to the alternator is probably a 10mm; the stud in the alternator is probably a 15mm (menitoned just in case the new one needs snugging).

(9) Remove the bolt from the rear of the old alternator holding it to the bracket (either a 13mm or a 14mm); then remove the stud holding the old alternator to the bracket (either a 13mm or a 14mm); then remove the "hinge" bolt holding the old alternator to the bracket (either a 13mm or a 14mm bolt screwed into a 15mm nut).

Installation of the new unit is done by reversing the steps of disassembly.

SAFETY NOTES: Be aware that there can exist pinch hazards during this procedure. Also be aware of the possible hazard of falling tools and/or debris.

Helpful hint: if possible, have someone else hold the bracket/alternator/tensioner assembly in-place while you start the lower 14mm bolt by hand from underneath the passenger side. This makes installing the upper bolts much easier.

Start ALL the bolts before tightening any of them. Generally, it goes pretty quickly if you begin with the "all bolts finger-tight, then all bolts hand (wrench/socket) tight, then all bolts torqued" method.

NOTE: Conspicuously dexterous people may not have to remove the alternator bracket, but in my opinion, the procedure is much easier if this is done. You should never have to remove the doghouse (engine cover inside the van) to replace the alternator. If a mechanic told you he/she did it that way, you should be going to a different mechanic.

On a 2000 Grand Am how do you replace the plastic clips that hold the regulator to the window?

You can't! I know it sucks but you have to replace the entire regulator assembly. Actually, it depends on which plastic clips you're trying to replace. True that the plastic slides are only available as part of the regulator, but the plastic glass channels are available separately from various sources, including Advance Auto's "Help!" section. The adhesive to attach is another matter, however. GM sells individual use vials at incredible prices that typically aren't in stock and are available only in box quantities, if special ordered. Check glass/windshield replacement stores, or NAPA sells a eurothane adhesive that has so far worked for me. Not exactly inexpensive, but doable. Be sure to buy the primer that goes with it, strength only a fraction without it!

How do you check to see if engine is firing?

You can do of a dew different ways by sound or sight start the van and remove the plug wires one by one and listen for changes in the sound of the motor or you can remove the plugs from the block and keep the wire connected to see if you have spark that way..just use insulated plyers when doing this to avoid shock
