turn your crank until the number one piston is at the top , u can check this by taking out the number 1 plug and stick a crew driver in to fill the piston at the top, then make sure your crank is lined up two dots next to each other and your router mark is set on the number 1 spark plug wire. this should put u in time. Replacing a timing chain on a small block Chevy The dot on the cam will be at 6 o'clock the dot on the crank will be at 12 o'clock the dot will line up with the chain and sprocket installed correctly .When this is done the engine will auto maticly be at top dead center. If you are doing this chain and gears in the vehicle and don't have the oil pan removed, you will have to modify the timing cover;the groove on the bottom that fits the oil pan gasket needs to be trimed at the inside top of the lip diagnal about a 1/4 " both sides. This clearances the cover to slip past the pan,it still won't be easy,I use a beed of sillicone in the groove and glue the cover gasket to the cover with contact cement or trim adhesive, then i take two #1 Philips screw drivers, start the cover bottom groove on the pan, take the two Phillips put one through a bolt hole on each side of the cover and in the coresponding hole in the block push downd on the screw driver while pushing in on the timing cover until it slide over the pins, put all the bolts in tighten then install the crank seal.

I have a 92 Lumina and I have replaced the crankshaft position sensor twice and the fuel pump and the spark plugs are fine and I can get it to roll over but I can not get it to start and I need ideas?

Without codes or more info all of this would just be a guess. If you are certain that the fuel pump is ok and that the car is getting fuel to the injectors you might try a new Ignition Control Module and maybe some coils. I don't know what's been done to it but are the plug wires ran correctly? The coils fire 1-4-6-3-2-5 from left to right. The back side of the engine is 1-3-5 and the front 2-4-6 from left to right.

How do you replace a thermostat in a 95 Chevy Lumina?

i just did that today. i heard it was hard but it was rather easy. follow the top radiator hose up to the engine. there is 3 bolts unscrew them.. u may have to bend the bracket out of the way for the bottom bolt.. we did. it isn't used for anything anyway. when u get the bolts removed, pull the hose back and the thermostat is right there. its tricky to get a socket in there. we used a bender. good luck ;]

Where is the EGR valve located on a 1997 Lumina 3.1L and is it hard to replace?

If your standing in front of the car it is just to the right of the ignition system (where all the spark plug wires are). It's round and it has a line that goes to the intake hose just before it attaches to the aluminum intake on top of the engine. Being that the EGR is on top of the engine it shouldn't be too difficult to change, but I can't say for sure because I haven't done it. It's easy. All you need is a 10mm socket, 2" extension, and ratchet. Unbolt unplug and you're done.

How do you rebuild a brake caliper on a 1994 Chevy Lumina?

First let me say that braking system is a vital system that should never be short cut. I don't believe that a person should work on this system unless they are trained or have experience doing these type repairs. You can buy rebuilt calipers now so inexpensive many garages no longer do these type service at their shops. They prefer buy and install these items. Now with the answer.First you will remove the calipers and drain fliud from each caliper. Put plastic plugs on brake lines as not to lose fluid and introduce air in to Master Cylinder. Next push caliper pistons out of caliper bores and careful not to drop or scratch piston surface. Next remove old seals from caliper bores. Next clean bores with soapy water and brass brush.Next clean caliper pistons same way. Make sure all surface are dry and clean before assembly. Next use brake assembly lube to coat all surfaces in caliper bore and the surface of the pistons that are in the bore. Next place the new rubber seals in cailper bore with assembly lube and place dust boot on caliper piston. Insert piston into bore and push slow and even into bore until they reach bottom. Stretch dust boot over lip on cailper. You are now ready to reinstall and bleed brake system. Please heed my earlier warning if any doubt of you ability to perform this repair please take to a experience person for assistance.

How do you tell if intake manifold gasket is bad on a 95 Chevy lumina v6?

One way is to start the engine and spray starter fluid around all edges of the intake. When you find a leak the engine RPMs will increase. Be very careful and have a fire extinguisher ready just in case. Know that any spark will ignite the starter fluid.
