Why would 01 Stratus have transmission leak after wheel bearing replacement?
When the wheel bearing was replaced did the axel get pulled out of the transmission ? it might not be all the way in ,or it could of hit the seal and tore it !
I had a similar problem with my 1992 Buick Park Avenue - it would cut out while driving - After replacing alot of sensors, maf, and coils etc - which did nothing - i found the problem was with the crankshaft position sensor - this is about $22 at autozone - not too hard to replace. Now no problems with cutting out at all.
It could also be the timing belt. If the timing belt fails the engine will stop running and the car will not restart until it is replaced.

Your owner's manual has a calibration procedure for the compass. If you don't have your manual then go to www.vehiclerepair.org/windstar/ and you can download a manual for free.
When you say "it would not start", do you mean it will not crank(nothing happens when the key is turned)? or it will not start?( engine cranks but doesn't fire?) You need a new battery. I had the same problem with my 1989 Bonneville, It would start ou good but as soon as I pressed on the brakes, the car would turn off.
HI, I've looked at this thing all which ways and the only thing I can come up with is an occurance at the same time. The back up light switch either went bad or moved.is a logical solution or a wire came off or has been broken. If one of those things has happened then your backup lights will fail. To check the switch you only need to remove the shift console and rear console to get to the switch. I don't see any way that the loss of backup lights wil cause the "Check Engine Light" to come on unless by losing a ground it will cause the circut to see a fault but I can't find a connection. I hope if someone ses a way or knows more, I surte hope they'll chime in. Good luck. Steve H.

the switch is on the tranny side casing called PRN switch. and is NOT in the console.
and is not related to the ECU CEL lamp at all.
unless you blow a fuse. which you didnt.
the back up lamps simply wire to the PRN tranny switch (AT only ,you didnt say tranny type , and there are 3)
and this switch has power from the ignition,
the switch closes and 12vdc is feed to the back up lamps. they then glow.
the wire can be open or grounded out, and many trailer wirings schemes go wrong.
the wire can be cut at the tranny or inside the left rear tail light housing.
this cavity has the trailer conn. look for hack jobs here.
if tranny switch closes and you get power to the wire then the switch is good and it is very expensive.
use a test light or cheap voltmeter. to find the problem.

If you're talking about the 2 lights on your dash, it's a defect in the ABS control module. It took me 2 whole days to fix this, including cutting open the module, resoldering the joints, and reassembling everything. Hopefully, for everyone's sake, Ford will issue a recall on this, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
The light only means that the ABS module isn't working at that moment, though. Your brakes will still work fine so as long as you don't lose traction on slick road, you can ignore the (albeit annoying) brake lights.

Answer I wishWish I knew mine did the same thing for 2 days then quit. I was getting off the hwy and heard the noise. When I put in 4hi it went away. This went on for 2 days I kept trying 2hi every so often. Also the truck did not want to back up in 4hi. On the second day I tried 2hi and it has been fine for the last week. I have been scared to try 4wd since though.I'm thinking it may have been something electronic. I had just bought the truck. And I know they washed the engine bay.
I had the same problem with my 93 Blazer. It was my 4x4 solenoid not disengaging entirely. This is located on the front axel and relatively easy to change and is not expensive at a junk yard.
Had the same problem with my 1997 gmc jimmy when i tryed to put it in 4x4 front drive shaff would turn but the tires wouldn't so it made a clicking/whinding sound until i put it back in to 2h and it would do it for a little while then it stop and it was the vaccum actualater that runs a cable down to the front diffrentical its located under the battery.. dry rotten out and fell apart. wasnt engageing my front drive shaff all the way 49.99 to fix the problem!!!

ETS stands for Electronic Traction System, check your owners manual. It controls your car's slippage on ice and other surfaces. Something might have happened with your ETS as your service engine light is on. Jerking in gear could be a torque converter problem or bad cluthes in the tranny.

The Jerking in gear is caused by the SAME problem as what is causing your "ETS off" light to come on. If any aspect of the ETS system fails the entire thing wont start up and will cause a chain of other things to "appear" wrong when you run the car. More often then not this is caused by a bad sensor that can easily and cheaply replaced.
Don't listen to these goofballs who are telling you you need new transmissions, clutch's, or throttle bodies. That will just be money down the drain.
HOWEVER, if you keep driving your car when the "ETS off" light comes on, you run the risk of causing actual damage to those areas and more, THEN you might need to replace those. But initially THEY are not part of the problem. Fix it early, fix it right, and you avoid more chain reaction problems down the road.
