Wow, taking it to a shop would have never crossed my mind! The guy is a freaking Einstein! Put that guy on Jeopardy! Bringto is not a word, genius!
Unplugging the battery or having a shop erase the ABS code will only come back on when you start it up again. If you have mechanical abilities, purchase an Actron Brake Scanner CP9449 (mine was $120), check the code and fix it yourself. After a repair, the computer will run a self check and reset the light and code. If the light is still on, you still have a problem. Note: the CP9449 is not capable of resetting codes.

I am assuming this is a traction control warning light. Some vehicles have yaw and roll sensors. If the sensor is bad and is returning a faulty voltage value to the module (probably the body control module) that monitors those sensors, the light will come on.

It means that the traction control system is disabled. If you accelerate from a stop in slippery conditions, the tires will continue to spin uncontrolled. The system usually resets after turning the car off. The antilock system cannot be disabled, so the brakes will be unaffected.

This is pinging. Caused by cheap fuel, carbon buildup, or engine out of time. Purchase some Seafoam Cleaner at most parts stores and put one can in a full tank of fuel. Repeat if needed. You may also need to inject some through a vacuum intake to remove carbon. Follow the directions on the can.

First turn the key to the run position (dash lights on and gauges on) you do not have to start the car. Now look for the "info" button. Push the info button until you see "push set for system check". Then push the "set" button After you push "set" you will see the oil life setting. Mine was at 0% life remaining. Now push the "set" button for 5 to 10 seconds until you hear a beep. Then the oil life will show 100%. Start the car and the oil change warning should be off. If not just retry the procedure. Where i made my mistake was in not holding the set button down long enough. Both the info and set button are in the center of the dash near the radio.

Sounds like your looking at the traction control switch or if that's the indicator light, someone has pressed the button to turn off automatic traction control. Unfortunately I don't know where that particular button is.
Not sure where it is on a '97 but on an '04 it is located on the steering column top right. Chances are on a '97 it is somewhere on the dash panel. I'm surprised it doesn't reset to off when you shut off and then restart the car.
I'd bet the farm that you have one of two problems.
- Either the heater core is stopped up due to rust in the cooling system, or
- There is a problem with the blend door/blend door actuator.
Either case, the dash has got to come out to fix. How big is the job? For somebody like me who has removed hundreds of those dashes, I can have it out in 45 minutes. Somebody who has never had one out, it could take all day.
- Disconnect the battery and wait five minutes to power down the airbags.
- Pull the steering column out.(make sure you lock the column and index the steering shaft, so you do not put it back together 360 degrees out and damage your airbag clockspring).
- Remove the trim down both windshield pillars, both ends of the dash, and kick panels.
- Remove the big trim piece running across the top of the dash below the windshield. There are three 7mm screws across the top of the dash, remove them.
- There are two 13mm bolts on each end of the dash under the end trim panels, remove them.
- Tug on the dash and see if there is any more bolts in the middle, but that should be it.
- Get some help, because as you pull the dash away from the firewall, there will be some electrical connectors at both ends you will have to disconnect as they become visible. There may also be one or two connectors in the middle.
Here is something you may want to know to help you figure out what is wrong. There is not just one temp blend door in the box, but there are two that work together. One of them is called a secondary stratification door. Ford has had so much trouble with that secondary door warping and binding against the other door, causing heat and AC problems, that they have revised a new door to replace the old one. The part number is 3F1Z-19D842-AA just in case you get somebody at the Ford parts counter who doesn't have a clue.

I was able to order one at the local Toyota dealership... just the glass insert. They gave me the wrong side so I haven't poped it in yet, but it was only $50. To replace the whole side mirror I was quoted $450.
