What could be wrong if temp gauge reads cold and heater blows cold air on ford windstar?
I'm not a mechanic / technician but it sounds like your engine cooling
thermostat is sticking open ( assuming that the electric engine cooling fans
are not running continuously )

Cause is the passlocks contact behind the lock, The female end in the housing section are corroded and a simple solution would be to spray a very small amount of electrical lubricant or wd40 and the the security system should detect the new ignition when inserted.
Why does 98 windstar blow cold air from front and hot air from rear?
I haven't done it, but I've heard there's a vaccuum solenoid in the rear box (down by the floor) that sticks.
Mine does this sometimes too, but not often enough that I've gone ahead and ripped the back wall apart. I can usually fix it by switching the rear control from cold to hot to cold to hot, etc. This, I think, loosens up that solenoid.
Maybe someday when it breaks altogether, or the kids start complaining loud enough, I'll fix it ;)
Good luck!
AnswercI have same problem on my 98 replace the temperature switch is the one of three in the middle of dash the one with red and blue sticker(is a vaccum switch)Answer
Change the rear cool/heat switch on the front panel, furthest on right. It's about $27 from Ford and easy to replace. Two screws and clips hold the face cover, 4 screws hold the panel in and one screw holds the switch. Remove the vacuum and electrical connectors.
AnswerYou probably have a faulty temp blend door motor assembly on the front unit. It is located directly behind the radio, way back in on the front of the heater case.Could also be the door inside behind that assembly is broken. The door lifts to allow hot air and drops to close to send cold air. I am in the process of fixing mine and it ain't pretty, but cheaper to get the assembly than to replace the door which requires the whole assembly to be replaced. Lots of luck with it.
How do you fix CD player in ford windstar?
Not exactly sure what the nature of the problem is that needs "fixing", but the "Related Questions" below cover dealing with getting jammmed cd's out.
How do you test - repair - replace the coil pack - ignition control module on a Windstar?
Coil packs can be checked for resistance with an ohm meter. If the pack is breaking down due to load or heat problems then the only way to check is to change it out. If the Windstar is a two pack model then you can swap the packs to see if the problem follows the cylinders that the possibly bad coil pack are now controlling.
Another problem might be the sun gear drive shell in your auto transmission. GM 4L60 transmissions are notorious for this problem causing a no reverse symptom. this means that you will need some serious work done on your vehicle
Wiring diagram for a viper security system in a camaro?
The Chevrolet Camaro security system wiring diagram can be obtained from most Chevrolet dealerships. The security system wiring diagram can be found in the security system owners manual.
How do you reset the timing on a 4.3 engine?
It depends on what you did and what year. If its a vortec, and you didn't pull the distributor, all you have to do is make sure the marks on the timing gears are lined up and your good to go. The computer does the rest. Some times you have to reset the computer though. If its older, there's a wire under the pass side dash. You have to unplug it. Time the engine with a timing lite, and then plug it back in and the computer takes care of the rest. The wire should be brown and white with a single connector. (If you pulled the distributor on the vortec, you have to take it to a shop and have them put it on the computer).

Top reasons 1998 ford windstar service engine soon light on and will not pass emissions test?
I'm not trying to be rude, but...
We could guess and point you in the direction of what "we" think is most common (401, 171 , 174, 30x, etc etc), but...
Your van is already trying to tell you exactly why it won't pass emissions - that is what is behind the service engine soon light being lit up.
Take your Windstar to any one of the dozens of places that will read the diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) for free, and use that as the basis of researching how to correct what is triggering or causing those codes.
Less guessing, and more definitive action to what is unique & specific to your current problem(s).

I may mean that a module governing your transmission is not functioning properly. We had a similar thing happen when the downshifting occurred spontaneously. Replacement of a $350 electronic board solved the problem.
More simply, you probably only need to replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). On my Windstar the speedometer would go to 0 and then would not shift out of low, too. This only happened when the sensor got hot; once it cooled it would work normally again...for a while. I replaced the $25 VSS and it has worked fine since.
It sounds like the bearing is going bad and the motor only runs quite slowly when it's "growling". If you could get to the bearings you might be able to lubricate them and get more life out of the blower, but it's generally not considered practical since blower motors are generally quite reasonably priced. The worst part may be figuring out how to remove/replace the motor.
What can cause all the lights on the dash to come on and then go off while the vehicle is running?
it could be a faulty alternator bring on all lights
Where are the insulator bolts located on an 01 ford windstar?
Just in case this is intended to find the notorious isolator bolts, that cause the 171 and 174 trouble codes and intake manifold vacuum leaks... See "Related Questions" below
Why does your Ford Windstar heater blower not work?
If the blower is completely dead and is not providing any air movement, the cause could be in the resistor block for the fan motor, the fuse, or the fan motor.
Check the fuse first. Refer to the owners manual for the fuse.
If you have one or more blower speeds, the problem is the resistor block.
The Ford Windstar blower has a resistor block that controls the various speeds of the blower motor. It is located on the passenger compartment side of the blower housing and can be replaced in five minutes. Unfortunately, I could only find the part at the Ford dealership who ripped me off for $20. You can find the part online for around $10.
If you do not have any speeds, you should verify the fan motor works by pulling it and connecting it to a 12 volt DC power source.
To pull the fan motor, you will have to remove the glove box to gain access to the 3 or 4 screws that hold the fan in place, although I did it without removing the glove box. The motor is attached to a large mounting plate that is at the bottom of the air plenum located behind the glove box. If you look up from the passenger floor you will see the motor hanging down. It is about the size of a soup can and is attached to a larger mounting plate. Once the connector is disconnected and the screws are out, you will have to turn the mounting plate to allow the motor to drop. Pay attention to the position as you pull it down as it needs to go back in the same twisting fashion.
I used a spare auto battery to test the motor, but you could use the one in the car, but just be careful to not short things out. Also, really brace the motor prior to connecting to battery as it has a lot of torque and could twist out of your hand.
If the motor is good and really spins up, then the problem is the resistor block is completely dead. (Replace the resistor block.)
If the fan does not spin, you can get a replacement from any junk yard. The parts guy at the yard can determine compatibility. Make sure he tests the fan before you buy it. Should cost about $10 - $15.
I repaired my fan by working it out of the housing, and freeing it up with WD-40. i then greased it up and it is fine, but I would recommend just getting a junk yard replacement. (much more time efficient!)

If the blower motor is the problem, it should make noise or fail to work until you hit it with a hammer.
If the blower resistor is the problem, the blower should work only when set to the highest speed.
How much would a fuel pump cost for a 1999 ford windstar mini van?
Where is the fuses to the engine fan in a mercury topaz 93?
On and '89 I believe it's #17. Iknow your's is a different year. If you have a manual it is in there though. If that doesn't work, (fuse not blown or doesn't correct it), check the connection of the plug at the fan. Still doesn't work, follow the wiring up to the next plug, it will be up near the right of th ebrake fluid resivor. Clean what connectins you can and try that. Still doesn't work, take the plug off the fan motor again and make a pair of jumper wires long enough to reach from there ot the battery. You'll need a couple spade receiver type connectors. put them on the motor and touch the hot & neg wires to the battery and see if the fan starts keep arms, fingers and stuff out of the way of the fan. I had this problem and messed with it & messed with it until I found the corroded connection at the plug near the brake fluid resivor. messed with thte thing for almost 2 hours before I found it. good luck.
I have had this done by a shop so I dont know what the difficulty is. It is a unitized assembly and contains the ABS sensor and wheel studs so it is an expensive piece. However check out the following website for instructions and pics on how to perform this task. http://mykidz.net/GTP/HubAssembly.shtml Hope this helps. "G"
No heat in a 2001 ford windstar van?
Feel the heater hoses in engine compartment if one is hot and other cool try flushing heater core.
Does 2000 Ford Windstar have fuel injection system?
Yes - in fact most vehicles for the last 20 years or so have used some form of fuel injection (as contrasted to a carburetor based system.)
Some early fuel injection was built around an extension of the carburetor idea: a central point of fuel distribution.
Then individual fuel injectors became the norm - which are typically mounted across the top, middle of the engine, or angled downwards into the top of each 'bank', or cylinder head.
How do you swap engines in a 1990 Chevy C2500 from a 4.3 to a LT1?
VERY tough LT1 was never offered in that truck so you have to use "trail and error" to find motor mounts, radiator, hoses, computer and wiring harness to make it run plus the V6 transmission wont hold up to the power of this V8 A better option is to buy all the parts from a wrecked 88'-'95 pickup or SUV and transplant everything This way you'll have a V8 and wont have to swap the dash, guages, and updated computer controls If you want a newer engine like the Vortec '96-'98, You'll need the whole wrecked truck and swap the guages, DLC(OBDII scanner connecter) the dash and wiring, electronic transmission, and ABS module and sensors, including the rear axle for the traction control/ABS Like I said VERY tough Stick with the '88-'95 and you'll buy replacement parts for a '90 with a V8
