Is rocking back and forth normal or does it signify that you have a psychological problem if it progresses into your adulthood?

Comment:

I am a rocker also, and a dr. told me his theory that I do it because I wasn't held enough as a baby, and I'm comforting myself when I do it. It made perfect sense to me.

Answer:

Your doctor may be correct, but how can we ever know for sure? Personally, I have been rocking while standing as an adult, for many years and I find that I do this most often when I feel anxious and/or stressed. I find that rocking somewhat relieves the tension I feel, and I find it quite soothing. I try not to make a "spectacle" of myself, but find that I even sway back and forth often while I talk with people. I have a good job and I am a lot more stable than most people you run into today. I am not on any medications and I have very nice and well-adjusted grown children.

I believe people do naturally what they have to do, in order to compensate for nuturing they did not receive enough of as children - so again, possibly the things you needed more of as a young child were not given to you (or me) as much as they should have been. My mother was an orphan, so perhaps what your doctor said holds some truth.

As a very small child, I rocked so much standing in my crib that I developed a "bump" on the back of my head, which remains there today. My mother had me examined by a doctor, and at one time, he was going to surgically remove the knot, but happily left it there. This only goes to show that I have been anxious all of my life and my rocking seemed to suffice. So "rock on" if it helps you through the day - I can think of a lot worse things to be concerned about!

What is wrong with people today when they act so robotic in nature and don't seem to care about people in general?

There are some very nice people out there in society no matter where you live, but it's like Forrest Gump said, 'Life is like a box of chocolates .. you just never know what you are going to get.' Chocolates come with hard nuts, other with cream which are mellow people and some dark chocolate and these people generally have a mystery surrounding them and when out in society you just never know what flavor you are going to meet, but you have the total control of the ones you want to kick to the curb and others you want to keep as friends. Some people are rude and uncaring because they generally have problems in their own lives and don't have the tools to cope with those problems, while others come from a background that has left them bitter and out to get the world. A waste of energy! For those of us that are caring we just have to find the right people that suit our needs and they are out there if we decide to seek and find. All individuals go through a phase in their lives when they get cherry pits thrown in their face, but just when you think the world has gone truly mad and no one really cares about you someone comes along and changes all that. A very wise person told once ... 'When you go through life and count five good friends on one hand then you are a very fortunate person.' Individuals simply have to be more selective as to facial expressions and body language of those around them and that is one good way of deciding who you want as a friend or girlfriend/boyfriend. While technology has it's upside it also has it's downside such as the Internet where people join different forums. There are some forums (such as this one) that is a good thing, yet many other forums can leave people feeling worse off than when they started. It's up to the individual to make smart choices and browse each website they go too. People need to get up off their butts from their computer and get out in the real world. If an individual has confidence in themselves and likes themselves for who they are then people that give them an attitude shouldn't phase them and you simply move on.

What illness does aromatherapy help?

Aromatherapy can help treat simple ailments such as headache, insect bites, skin disorders, sunburn, cough, and cold symptoms. Aromatherapy can also treat arthritis, anorexia, depression, muscle pain, and stiffness, PMS, IBS, sinusitis, kidney, and liver problems as well. The benefits of aromatherapy lie in the essential oils used and the method of application for each oil. Many times, the best use of oils is a topical application such as massage, hot or cold compress, or soak. Pure Essential oils can also be used in skin care products, body spray or relaxing or sensual baths. In addition, essential oils can be absorbed through the nose, by inhalation of the vapors directly from the bottle, through an aromatherapy diffuser, room spray, dissipation by a light bulb ring, or humidifier.

How can you get over people's opinions of you?

If you are a moral, ethical person that is good to others then you have nothing to worry about. If what they are saying has no merit then you just take for what its worth. Crap. If what they are saying is true and it bothers you then do something about it. If what they say isn't true, you take a stand and protect your name and reputation, that is if its worth your time and energy. Petty people are everywhere and I have found that when people say things about you that arent true, they are intimidated by you and find you a threat to their own insecurities and it makes them feel better by putting others down. You can call them on it or rise above it, the truth does always come out and what come around goes around, it may take a little time. You will be and come out being the better person by letting them make fools of themselves.

How come old men always and you mean always talk soo much unecisary ...you know?

Older men talk a lot because they have lived long enough to experience many things as they went through life. They have seen things that younger men can't even imagine. They have learned by trial and error. When something failed, they had to find a new way to do it. When they talk (and it may seem unnecessary) it is worth listening to. We can learn a lot from those talking old men. The best way is just to sit still and learn. I'm not an old man yet but I love to listen to those 'Old Men'. i am old man and i dump myself at night then i then rub it on my face and shove it in my ears
