1995 Lincoln Continental air suspension compressor will not come on?

It sounds like your compressor was killed. What more than likely happend is that your airbag got a hole or crack in it causing the compressor to work overtime. I would recommend a conversion kit. This is a permanent fix to suspension problems. Try Strutmasters.com that is where I did my conversion about 5 years ago and have been very happy ever since. Good Luck

What is tension in an earthquake?

The Tension Capable Bearing can accommodate structure vertical loads that vary from compression to tension during seismic movements. This bearing can substantially reduce structural framing costs by preventing uplift of a primary structural member, and can eliminate concerns regarding potential structure overturning or large vertical earthquake motions

How do you replace the water pump on a Lincoln Continental?

This is the removal and install procedure for the 3.8 L engine right from a fellow who just happens to be finishing up on doing it. It is best to record the location of each part you take off, which way a bracket is pointing and which clamp goes where, that sort of thing.

  1. Drain and recycle the engine coolant
  2. All bolts and nuts are metric. Now, study the label affixed atop the radiator showing the belt routing. You must remove the 4 bolts on the pully before taking off the drive belt. Using a 15 mm wrench and a helper bar ( wrench extension), remove the drive belt by prying down clockwise on the belt tensioner. (The little pully looking thing back closest to the firewall on the left as you stand at the passenger side of the vehicle. It is directly beneath the distributor.
  3. Remove the bolt (18 mm)retaining the drive belt idler which is under the steering pump. Refer to the label affixed atop the radiator.
  4. Disconnect the heater hose at the water pump. Remove the lower hose.
  5. The pulley will remain loose on the hub because there is insufficient room between the inner fender and the water pump, restricting removal from the vehicle. You have to use your old pully so be careful not to damage it during removal.
  6. Remove the water pump-to-engine retaining bolts, then have someone help you.
  7. You will be able to lift the water pump up past the frame while your helper pries gently with a big bar at least 4 foot long on the face of the A/C idler which is directly un-neath the sterring pump. It just takes maybe a quarter of an inch so be gentle.

Install

  1. Lightly oil all bolt and stud threads before installation except those that require sealant. Thoroughly clean, the water pump to engine gasket contact surface.
  2. Position the new water pump gasket on the engine surface using Gasket Adhesive, then apply some to the pump surface also.
  3. Install the water pump retaining bolts paying particular attention to the bolt that has a nut left on it. This bolt goes in the hole that is directly beneath the alternator. Thighten the retaining bolts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm) Make sure the bolts go back where they came from cause they are two different sizes and if you put them in worng you can damage your engine.
  4. Install the water pump pulley bolts, then tighten the bolts to 16 ft. lbs (21Nm)
  5. Connect the heater water hose to the water pump.
  6. Install the drive belt idler and other parts in reverse order, then install the drive belt.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable, then fill the cooling system with a 50/50 mixture of approved coolant and water. Start and run the engine until it reaches normal operating temparatures, then check for leaks and check the coolant level.

Why does the engine start sputtering at a stop in a 1998 Lincoln continental?

You may want to have the ignition coils checked by a free diagnostic retailer (Autozone, for example). One of my engine coils seems to go out every few months in my '98 Continental. They are real easy to replace and certainly not free but at $20-60 per coil they aren't as bad as some things to replace on a car. If it's not this I at least tried for ya buddy. Good luck!

How do you unlock a Lincoln Continental with a key?

Where is the automatic headlight sensor in a 1983 Lincoln Continental mark vi--is it not the hi-beam sensor behind the grille?

It's the same unit, and the cause of my headlights flickering when I drive under street lights. I disconnected it for this reason. Actually, the automatic headlight sensor (aka the "autolamp" sensor) is located under the dashpad. If you look toward the middle of the dashpad, near the base of the front windshield, you will see a small honeycomb pattern approximately 1.5 inches in diameter. The autolamp sensor is located directly below this (if you're trying to get to this sensor, you'll obviously have to remove the pad -- two screws in each defrost vent, one of each side, and several screws under the front lip -- pull the entire pad up and toward the back of the car and voila). Make sure to NEVER place anything over the autolamp sensor area, as it will block ambient light and activate the headlamps unnecessarily.

There is also a high beam sensor located in the front grille. This sensor basically sees the headlights of oncoming cars and switches your headlights to low-beam accordingly. If you are having issues with it flickering under streetlights, my first suggestion would be to take a soft cloth and clean its lens very well. Then, use the right wing of the headlight switch to adjust the distance sensitivity. If you don't want it to work at all, turn it all the way toward the up position, then pull the high-beam switch stalk toward you to disengage the high beams. Otherwise, move the right wing of the headlight switch downward and it will increase the distance before the lights flick from high to low beam.

How do you replace brake light bulb 2002 Lincoln Continental?

Open your trunk and go to whatever side needs replacing and there will be a black round cap, about the size of a quarter maybe bigger. Unscrew that and you should be able to pull back the carpet right behind the rear lights, if you cant get the carpet the long black plastic strip with 4 to 5 black plastic caps like the other one where your truck latches, pop 1 or 2 of those out right/left pending what side your working on you should be able to pull carpet back, when you get it right behind the light in the trunk you will find 2 nuts that are screwed onto a bolt, you can only see the threads of the bolt not the head, the bolts are about 1" maybe 1 1/4" long. Unscrew both of those and the whole brake light casing and cover should slide right out the back, so pull the light towards you. Look in your owners manual to determine which light is the brake light, there's two lights, one is the brake light and the other one is the parking lamp, turn light bulb socket which ever way it needs to turn to come out the back of light casing, pull, light out of socket and install new light, reverse procedure to install everything back.

There are actually 5 screws that are part of the lens assembly that stick through the body fastened by nuts on the inside. Use a 7/16 long socket with a stubby ratchet. When reattaching the lens assembly be careful not to over-tighten nuts to avoid breaking the assembly. Since you've gone to all this trouble, replace all the bulbs, not just the burned out one.

How do you collapse the rear break piston on a 1998 Lincoln Continental to replace the pads?

your gonna have to bleed the brakes bud or budette, but now some people like to use a special tool that doesnt require you to loosen the bleeder nut on the caliper but you have to turn it slow, go to the auto store and ask them how to use it, other than that you have to do it the old fashion way which in some peoples opinion is better because you get all the gunk if any out of the master cylinder, just make sure you dont get air into the system while your doing the old fashion way ( by the way this way requires two people to bleed the brakes), ask the auto parts guy how to do this and where to start from because there is a pattern set for your vehicle.

Will bars leaks rear main seal repair work on a bad head gasket?

No, it won't. Bar's Leaks Rear Main Seal Repair uses compounds which interact with the rubbers and plastics used in the majority of engine oil seals and some gaskets. These are mostly seals around rotating components or shafts, such as o-rings and circular seals. The product coats and swells the rubber in these seals, to get them to seal again after they have been worn down and deformed.

The majority of flat surface gaskets are fiber, and all head gaskets are metal or composition (and even these seal around the cylinders where your leak usually is with metal). Rear Main Seal Repair will have no effect on this material. If the head gasket is leaking coolant, then Bar's Leaks for radiators may solve the problem if it is a minor leak, and is not affected by cylinder compression.
