I ended up having to take mine to a dealership. No one will touch it because of the complexity of the airbag system in the bumper. No one will go into the steering system either, due to the airbag system. I am having trouble with my horn now. They say there is a short in the steering wiring, but I will also have to use a dealership for this. UMMMMMM looks like they made these things for dealership repairs only. Just another way to keep us spending at their repair shops. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

Use a 1999 grand marquis gs key!!

A locksmith can usually make a key based on the code that might be on the lock, or by picking the lock and making a key from the pick.

The most common way to do this is to use a program called Vag-Com by Ross-Tech. (www.ross-tech.com). If you find someone who owns a copy of the software, this setting can be changed under the Central Locking System module or the Comfort Control Module.

put the key in the ignition and turn the steering wheel and the key at the say time (turn the steering wheel to the left)

You can't just slam it shut. Close it gently, then put your hand on the VW emblem and press down. When the trunk latches, you'll hear a little beep out of the horn.

above the licens plate light there is a botton on the outside of car but none inside

I'd suggest using WD-40 to un-stick it and THEN use Tri-Flo to keep some lube in there because WD-40 evaporates.

There should be a little handle mounted to the top inside of the trunk. It will be yellow/green or a highly visible color. You can pull this lever toward the rear of the car, which should pop open the folding seat. I am not sure if all models are equipped with this feature. Another option would be to call your local dealership, they should be able to come unlock your doors, and it may not cost much, if anything.

If you have rear speakers, remove the speaker cover, remove the speaker(s) and reach in and find the mechanism and turn to open. I did this with my 1996 Lumina Van.

I just went thru this on a 2002 s-blazer. On the rear tail gate their is a punch-out in the rear inner gate panel. It is in the center on the gate at the top of the carpet. If you peal the top center of the carpet down carefully their is a small punch-out behind the carpet. The punch out is about 3/8 of a inch tall and about a inch long. If you punch this out you will see a gold colored lever in there and you can take a screwdriver and stick it in the access hole and slide it to the passengers side of the vehicle, this should pop the rear glass open. Here is a link to the Gen 2 CR-V Door Lock Many modern cars cannot be unlocked with a normal 'slim-jim' type tool because the locking mechnism is held captive by the lock cylinder (my 97 accord, for example). Whilst repairing the door lock actuator on my accord with the door apart, I determined that there is no part you can pull or push to unlock the car this way. The way to unlock it is to get to the trunk-release lever with a long wire or to the power door lock button with a long wire. On many sedans, the way to unlock them is through the rear door, since there is no lock cylinder on those doors. I've had this same problem on a 98 model (I believe the latches are the same). Beating it just above the keyhole (a light tapping with a closed fist) will usually work. Do not beat it too hard or the lock may get broken/bent.

Well, if it's anything like my 2004 Passat, then there is a little lever on the driver's side wall under the dash/steering wheel, next to the front of the driver's side door. Pull it toward you.

I looked all over for this & missed it several times because I thought it was just part of the plastic coving on the side wall. Seriously, it just looks like a lumpy outcropping of the plastic near your left shin.

The only way to do this is to lie down on your back on the ground and slide yourself under the front of your car. If you look up under the car you should be able to see the latch that grabs and holds the hood down. Look at the latch and look for a (Black) plastic coated cable (Like the cable for bicycle brakes) and grab this with a heavy pair of pliers or Vise-Grips and pull. the first one is driverside under the dash on the left and the other is facing the car the hood should be poped you should feel in in the center of the hood push the latch away from you and the latch should release.

If you have rear speakers in the tailgate, remove the cover(s) and the speaker and reach in and turn the mechanism to open

Unlock the door Answer 2 If you can find a piece of flexible yet strong piece of metal (a coat hangar,etc.) slide it between the door and window near the side mirror (either side) and push the unlock button on the armrest. get a silmjim, its kinda like a flimsy metal strip its got notches cut in one end so it makes it easy to unlock the door. Its not the easiest thing to manouver between the window and the outside of the door, but its the most efficient. Slide it between the window and the door, and bring it to the side of the door that the lock is on. ( the part where the thing pops up when its unlocked) this might take you a while but it most likely will work. Keep sliding it around that part of the door, until you find that it hooks something. pull up on that thing, not too hard, and its most likely to be the lock. TADA!

You actually will have to reach under the bumper to take out the bolts on the grille and remove it. Then, you will have to bend a hanger into a hook to reach around the back of the lock and grab the loop in which the hood cable connects.

I'm having the same problem - I took it in to our mechanic as the lockset was also seized up from not being used. Turns out the new part (including the electric solonoid) is about $500. Our Malibu has nearly 200K on it & I felt it was not worth it. I'm trying to find a used one, but they don't seem to be around. Let me know if you find anything...

When trying to unlock your 97 grand am by using a slim jim the first thing you want to decide is, do your locks go up and down or back and forth. This will tell you what direction you need to move the slim jim to get the car to unlock. The next thing you want to do is insert the slim jim under the rubber piece next to the door. Once you find the lock rod , move the slim jim in the direction your locks move.
