Symptoms of a bad knock sensor?

There are no symptoms since the knock sensor doesn't do anything unless the engine is detonating, in which case it would do nothing and you would hear it. The knock sensor code is often tripped when there is a fault in something else since it's part of the same circuit. This is considered a "ghost" error code.

Why is my 92 Mercury Villager just stop running occasionally this can be at any speed I just shift to neutral and start it again and works like a dream but eventually it happens again any ideas?

It could be dirt in the carborator or the timing chain is starting to go, but that usually just dies and the car will not start again. It also could be a problem within the exhaust system.

I have had the alternator changered with no results.

How do you disable the seat belt motor on a 1993 Villager?

Finally a good answer to this question. I searched for a long time on different sites but could not find a satisfactory answer. I figured it out myself and here it is. The controller module for the seat belts are located inside the car. It is under the dash way on the floor in the middle console. How you can get to is: remove side panel closest to your accelerator with light on it which is held in by two plastic screws on the outside and a metal one on the inside. you will see a stack of different modules, it is the last box closest to floor of the car. It's black plastic relatively small and says Ford Made in Canada on it. There are two bronz looking screws you don't want to open those. Lift floor covering and there is a black screw holding the unit, open that one and do the same on the passenger side. Once you got it out make sure your seat belt position is where you want it. and take out the two plugs out of it and wala :)

What might cause your 1996 mercury villager transmission to hard shift?

Generally, one should have the codes scanned to make sure all the sensors are working correctly. Out of spec sensors can cause damage to the transmission. Make sure the alternator / battery voltage is correct too as I've had hard shifts when my alternator died. Failing that, you'll need to have a transmission shop check it out, working on external checks first before tearing it down.

Where is the low pressure port on a 1996 Mercury Villager?

Mercury Villager AC rechargingThe low pressure service port is on the left side of the engine bay as you are facing the vehicle with the hood open. It is at the top of the engine compartment, and it faces towards the drivers side of the vehicle. If you spot the compressor, look for the line that runs out of the back side of it and follow it up to where it Tee's That's the low side port. It has a black cap on it (at least it should). The high side service port is near the center of the vehicle and it points straight up. It has a cap on it also (mine's grey and has an H on it).

This vehicle uses R134A refrigerant and the connectors that it uses are not interchangeable or reversible(on the vehicle side). That doesn't mean you cannot screw it up, if you were to connect the hoses to the wrong side of your manifold set, but if you are using the auto parts store recharging line and little cans of R134A they will only connect to the low side port.

Coincidentally if you look up at the hood above where the low side port is you will see a sticker with the amount of regrigerant and oil that your particular vehicle uses. Mine has the rear AC so it uses 3.75 pounds of "freon."

My 1997 mercury villager all of a sudden lost fuel pressure how do you know its the fuel pump or a sensor?

I have a 1996 Mercury Villager and battled this problem for years. My van would stall on hot days, at high altitudes and sometimes just randomly (even on the freeway which posed considerable dangerous situation). Several dealers and mechanics could not diagnose the problem. I finally had the fuel pump replaced and the problem has not reoccurred. However, I agreed to use an after-market fuel pump and it does not give accurate fuel gage readings. You might want to consider using the dealer brand (which was considerably more expensive).
