What would cause the ignition coils to repeatedly fail in a 1996 Pontiac Gr Am 2.4?

Replacement coils must always be the same basic type as the original and have the same primary resistance as the original. Using the wrong coil may damage other ignition components or cause the new coil to fail. Your engine is experiencing repeated coil failures, and it may be that the coil may be working too hard. The underlying cause is usually high secondary resistance (bad spark plug wire or spark plugs), or in some cases, a lean fuel condition (dirty injectors, vacuum leak or leaky EGR valve). Future coil problems can often be avoided by cleaning the connectors and terminals when the new coil is installed. Corrosion can cause intermittent operation and loss of continuity, which may contribute to component failure. Applying dielectric grease to these connections can help prevent corrosion and assure a good connection. The spark plug wires also should be replaced following a coil failure to assure a good hot spark. New plugs also should be installed if the original plugs are fouled or are at or near their service limit (45,000 miles for conventional plugs, 100,000 miles for long-life plugs). Hope this helps you.

If your 97 Grand Am will turn over but will not start where do you start to check for problems?

would check the crank sensoe 2 c if it is pulsating.

For an engine to run, you need air, fuel and a spark. 1)Check to see if you have spark at the end of one of the spark plug wires. 2)To check for fuel, turn the key to the ON position but do not start. The fuel pump will run about 2 secs and then shut off. You should hear a buzzing type sound coming from the back of the car.

I had a problem with my 97 grand am not starting. It would turn over but it was acting like it didn't get any gas. I had to leave the key on for 10 minutes to reset the anti theft system. I found that out after changing the fuel filter and part of the fuel line.

My Son's 2001 Grand Am had the same problem. Did the 'leave ignition switch turned on for 10 minutes' It worked. Changed the fuel filter, and tested the fuel pump that was ok. The Throttle Body Carb would not let any gas in till we did the 10 reset. Thanks

How do you reset the bcm or pcm on a 2001 Pontiac grand am?

only by a scan tool

NOTE FROM ANOTHER USER: STOP THIS. If you do not know the entire answer to a question do not answer it. First the PCM is the Powertrain Control Module and the BCM is the Body Control Module. I wish I knew more about what you were trying to do. If you are trying to clear codes, you can use a scanner, also, if you disconnect the battery for an extended period of time it will reset, however, you are going to flash and engine code for the next 50 cycles. (It is only to tell you that are battery has been recently disconnected). If you are trying to reset the BCM to program a keyless entry remote, remove the fuse from the panel and switch from ACC to off to ACC to set it into program mode. The exception to this rule is the 1999 Grand am. You will need a scanner. I you.

How do you install the crankshaft position sensor on a 1987 Buick Grand National?

rotate the engine until you have the gape on the interupter ring over the crank sencer. remove the crank sencer assembley that bolts to the block with the sencer attached. ( do not take the 5/16 bolt loose that holds the sencer.(unplug the wires to the sencer first. once yu have remover the sencer assembley from the block you can tell how to set up the new sencer. mark the sencer with a knife or paint pen so you can see how to set up new sencer. Now you are readty to remove the 5/16 bolt. back the bolt out and remove the sencer for the bracket. pay attention where you marked the old sencer. Mark the new sencer in the same location and place it back in the bracket,( Be sure to alighn the sencer exactly as the old on. Then tighten the 5/16 bolt back..DO NOT over tighten this bolt. now reinstall assenbley back onto the block. Be sure not to break the window of the new sencer as you reinstall. it will be a tight fit but it will go. Take a flywheel tool and turn engine BY HAND to make sure you have properly set up your sencer. As long as it does not hit it will be good. if it does hit, back off the 5/16 bolt and move the sencer until it does not make contact with tha interupter ring on the crank shaft. plug your wires back into the sencer. start engine an have fun.. Hope this help.

2000 Pontiac grand am service vehicle soon light?

I had this problem with my 1999 Grand Am. I noticed at the same time I had a headlight out. I replaced the bulb and got it working and the light has been off since. After that, I found some information on the net in a forum which gave me this info:

The Service Vehicle Soon (SVS) light indicates a problem with the body electrical system. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) associated with this Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) cannot be read with standard OBD scanners like those at Autozone, etc. In order to read these codes, you will have to take your car to a proper GM mechanic.

However, the most common cause of a Service Vehicle Soon (SVS) light is a burned out or disconnected headlamp bulb. Check that all your exterior lamps are functioning. That includes high/low beams, parking lamps, signal lamps, and brake lamps.

How do you replace an electric passenger side mirror on a 2000 Grand Am?

When I bought my 2000 Grand Am, it had a broken passenger side power mirror. This is what you do: 1) Open your passenger side door and at the location where the mirro is outside but inside is a plastic triangular piece, pop this piece off (you can just pry it with a screwdriver or something and it will come loose) 2) Disconnect the wiring of the old mirror at the "clip" (it is clearly visible) 3) unscrew the 3 nuts holding on your mirror 4) take your new mirror and put on and screw in the 3 nuts 5) now hook up the wiring with clip but make sure that when you put clip in place that the colors of the wires matchup or your new power mirror motor will screw up 6) Now just put the triangular plastic piece back on and your done!

You just need to get inside the door. There are a lot of sharp edges in there that can do bodily harm so be careful/ Good Luck, Joe

This is my story of changing the motors on a 97 SE, I'm not sure how similar it will be to yours...

I started by taping the window to the window frame using packing tape. I have tinted windows so I put the tape on the outside of the window and over the doorframe. Put something between the tape and the rubber trim, the tape will leave residue on that. Then loosen the two bolts that hold the window to the regulator. Disconnect the wire harness at the top of the motor. Then drill out the four big rivets, starting with a 1/8 inch then 1/4 inch bits. I used Craftsman Zirconium Nitride Coated Drill Bits. Go slow and shoot a little WD-40 to help, it takes a while to get them out. When the last rivet falls out, the regulator will collapse so mind your fingers. Try not to make the actual hole in the metal any bigger that it already is. Then remove the two bolts that go to the bottom of the regulator. The whole assembly will now slide out one of the big holes in the sheet metal, and no, you don't need to cut any metal. You can buy the motor with a new regulator already assembled, or just the motor. I got just the motor on eBay for $40. There are cheaper ones but I wanted a good one. If you just get the motor, you'll have a little more work. Drill out the four rivets holding it on to the regulator. You can either rivet the new one on or just use four small machine screws, that's what I did. It won't hurt to put a little grease in the tracks now either. Slide the whole assembly back in and attach the two bottom bolts then the two that hold the window to the regulator. Attach the wire harness and power the motor back and forth until one of the holes that you removed the rivets from is in alignment with the holes in the new motor. Now the tough part, getting the fat little bolts in those holes and getting a nut on it. I think I used 1/4 X 3/4 inch bolts. I got them at Home Depot. If you want to spend the money, you can get the big rivets and a big rivet gun, but I didn't think it was worth it. I've had the one window in for over a year with just the 3 bolts and it's holding fine. You can only access 3 holes in the motor if you're using bolts to attach it. If while drilling out the rivets you made the holes bigger, you may need to use a washer. Get one in, then power the motor a little at a time until the other holes are lined up and get at least three bolts in. Get them as tight as you can using locking nuts. Try putting the bolt in from either direction to see which way works best. The first time I did this, it took me over 4 hours. The second window, 90 minutes. Now you can go through the drive thru again.

Your 2001 Pontiac Grand-Am is making a clicking like the turn signal is on while you're driving but the signal is not flashing or on whats the problem?

I just had this problem with my 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. The problem is a short in the "multi-function switch." When I took it to get fixed, they told me that a lot of Pontiac Grand Ams have had this problem, and mine was fixed through warranty. If that is not the problem with your car, check the "signal flasher relay." Hope I helped!

Where can you find a diagram for installing freon on a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am?

It should be the same as my 92. Under front of the car coming from compersor is a large line. On that line (low side line) is the low presure fitting, this where you put R134 or R12,which ever one you allready have in the car.If not allready R134 I would convert it.R134 is alot cheaper.

On your 1993 Wrangler oil comes out of dipstick and into air filter sometimes is there a fix for this?

Try replacing your PCV value and check the hose that connects to it- It may may clogged or kinked.

There is a hole in the valve cover to act like a pcv.. You may have to remove the cover to clean it properly.

I had this problem in a 92 i used to have. The rings were shot and it was creating backpressure into the heads causing the oil to find ways out. Only ways out are through the dipstick and air filter. If this is your problem you need to replace the pistin rings or get a new long block motor.

Well this is a true answer but on the 93 and 94 models there is no positive crankcase vent valve, the tube going from the valve cover to the intake is simply a breather tube. I have this same problem lol i own a 93 with a 94 model 4cly motor. I have come to find this is just how the PVC system works... try varying the amount of oil a little you may have too much in the motor....

How do you replace the fuel pump in a 92 Pontiac Grand Am 3.3 liter 6 cylinder engine?

I have a 91 Grand Am with a 2.3 and I just had to replace my fuel pump. Odds are you have to drop the gas tank. Once you do this your fuel pump should be showing because it is inside the tank. Then just disconnect your old pump and replace it with the new one. Then replace your gas tank and your good to go.
