Go to a dealer and pay a boatload of money.

Easiest way is to spray some lubricant on it while it is running. If the sounds goes away you know its the belt. Could also be noise from the a/c clutch, power steering pump, etc.

you have to take off the front end of vehicle, fender bumper and headlights usually all have to come out,also the ac condenser..best to do all your belts while you have this much available,maybe even the timing belt and water pump too..60000 miles

You're kidding, right? You loosen the short bolt near the top of the alternator. This is the bolt that passes through a long, curving slot in a long, curving mounting bracket. Once this is loosened, not removed, you can tilt the alternator toward the center of the motor, bringing the pulley closer to the next pulley around which the belt is looped. Grab the belt and pull it around the alternator pulley. Now tilt the alternator back to where it was. This will take the slack out of the belt. You'll have to push pretty hard against the alternator to get the belt tight. Once it's tight, tighten down the bolt you loosened. Now, find the longest stretch of unsupported belt and push against the belt to see how tight it is. It shouldn't be so tight that it doesn't move at all. You want about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch of slack, but absolutely NO MORE THAN 1/2 AN INCH! If it doesn't fall within these measurements, you need to loosen the bolt and adjust the tension again. That's it. It should be fairly obvious unless you have a car with one of those new-fangled serpentine belts. In that case, same method applies, it's just more complicated to keep track of all the pullies and belt loops.

Typically, one would draw a diagram before dissassembling. Usually there is a sticker under the hood that shows it. A parts store or dealer may assist you otherwise.

your local parts store can give you a free print out of the diagram. but if you know that and want the easiest way to put it on, i find it better to release the tensioner pulley a bit , pulling it forward, putting the belt on, then putting the tensioner pulley back where it was. now be careful putting it back. it may snap back at you, n i tellyou what, that's smarts! but yanking the belt to put it over that alternator takes your entire body strength. there really is no easy way. its a pain in the *** on any car.

There is probably a belt tensioner that the belt runs around. To release the tension, the pulley must be pushed or pulled the opposite direction that the belt is pushing on it. Or, there should be an adjustment for the power steering pump that can be loosened. You might start there.

Refer to your owners manual, there will be a diagram there to show you the position of the belt, there should also be a diagram under the hood. Make sure you have a socket and flex bar to fit your idler pulley to relieve the tension to allow you to install belt properly. Good luck

Unless it has been removed, sh0uld be a routing diagram on the radiator cover inside the engine compartment, left side as you are facing the vehicle. AJ

first remove the viscus fan off the water pump mark it up first so the holes go on the same studs they came off.

looking on the front of the engine there is a light alloy tensioner that has a smooth face round the pulley, there is a 14 or 15m bolt head on this. What you need to do is put a ring spanner on this bolt and then pull it clockwise { it is very hard to move with just a spanner } What I do is fit the ring spanner on the bolt head then get a socket and extension bar on the open end of the spanner to give extra leverage.

Once there is enough slack on the belt remove it off the pulleys.

Refitting is the same as removal I find it easier to put it on the alternator last.

Yes it can. Even if you somehow managed to get it across all tension points if it is installed incorrectly it will come off eventually and something is not going to be turning or operating. There should be a diagram under the hood usually on the panel over the radiator or in your owners manual. Also any auto parts store should be able to show you a diagram.

this is actually a yes and no answer. because the supercharger only engages when the throttle is pressed hard enough, yes it is possible to drive it without a supercharger. the no part of the answer is that any time you try to speed up quickly or pass someone the computer will tell the fuel pump to dump lots of fuel into the injectors to compensate for the added air the supercharger is supposed to be ramming into it. if the supercharger isn't producing air the engine will flood and stall.

The diagram is similar to a Ford Focus. This applies to a 2.0L Escape 2004.

Ford stuck a diagram on the front fender of the Escape 2004 but it was incorrect.

There are two fuse boxes for the Montana. One is on right lower side of dashboard. It has a pop off cover. The other is under the hood, left side. Both covers identify the fuses purpose therein. The same info is in the user manual.

You should change the drive belt when you see cracking underneath the belt where it rides against the pulleys(the grove part of the belt)or you need to replace it when it continously squeals
