All you do is look for the tension pulley and tighten it, see below

Need a serpentine belt routing diagram for a 2002 Toyota rav4.

To adjust the auxillary belt tensioner you require a 6mm Allen key. Firstly slacken the 6mm hexagonal bolt on the tensioner pulley which can be accessed from the O/S/F wheel arch, then slacken the 6mm hexagonal bolt on the tensioner mount. This will allow you to adjust the tensioner at the bottom of the mount. By turning anti-clockwise the tensioner will tighten, clockwise loosen.

Regardless of what type your vehicle is, it is extremely difficult to replace a serpentine belt w/o a serpentine untensioner tool. This is a thin, long handle with a socket on the end that sticks out at 90 degrees of the handle. The socket slips onto the bolt-head of the tension-er pulley. Once the serpentine belt is threaded around all the other pulleys you put the untensioner tool on the tension-er pulley bolt and pull (or push) to achieve slack in the serpentine belt and slip it on the tension-er pulley.

there should be 3/8 hole in it for a ratchet to fit it is up or down if you look at it you can tell

Take it to the stealership. The only way to get to the tensioner is to build your own tool. If you were the type who could build his/her own tool, you wouldn't be posting on answers.com.

I'm not much of a mechanic but, it may be too loose.

For the 2004 ES Lancer it is just below the PS and above the airconditioning units on the front of the car, right side of the engine.

Usually this means one of the pulleys is locked up. The belt winds around multiple pulleys, when one locks up it doesn't rotate and the friction is burning away the belt, giving you the smoking and squealing.

Check with Auto Zone, Penn Jersey, Pep Boys or, the most expensive... your Ford dealer.

Can someone tell me how to install the serpentine belt on a 2006 ford fusion? I need an answer ASAP.

Chances are the belt and tensioner is not the problem. Your water pump is. Check the bottom of the water pump and see if there is some anti-freeze comming from the weep hole. If there is then that is the problem. Anti-freeze will cause a serpentine belt to come off because of its lubricating properties If there are not leaking fluids dripping on the belt that would cause it to come off then, it sounds like a belt alignment problem. You should check your mechanics guide to determine how to adjust the alignment.

Usually, you can find the routing diagram for the serpentine belt under the hood of the vehicle. Most common locations are on the shock towers, or the plastic cover on top of the radiator support, near the hood latch. If you cannot locate the diagram, your best (easiest)bet is to purchase a Haynes repair manual at the local auto parts store.

First you start by putting a wrench on the nut that holds the free spooling pulley on the belt tensioner located towards the top of the motor on thefront. Pull the wrench counter clockwise so that the idler pulley ifts off the belt. With your other hand, move the belt and release the belt tensioner. You can now remove the belt being sure t tae note on how it came of as you have to put he new bel on the same way to ensure proper direction of the pulleys. If ou are one of the lucky ones, there is a decal on the top of te radiator support that shows a diagram of how the belt goes on. To installthe belt, just reverse the steps that you took to get it off.

One bolt on the front (right) engine mount needs to come out. There is a sleeve around this bolt that will come out after the bolt is gone, allowing you to take the belt out and replace it with a new one. Just check out the front engine mount and you will see which bolt has a sleeve around it to remove (lower front bolt if I remember correctly).

Make sure to memorize/write down how the belt follows the pulleys -before- removing the belt. You don't have to do this, but it sure makes putting the new belt in much easier as you don't have to learn how the belt makes its rounds.

It doesn't use serpentine belts. It uses V groove belts. A series of 3. This is on a 2.0. The 1.8 might be different but I doubt it. The 2.0 is the better motor.

Try this first. Open the hood. Right in the middle of the front rail near the latch for the hood should be the belt routing diagram. If it is gone for some reason look in your owners manual for the diagram. If that no go call local ford dealership have them print it out for you .

Not unless it was broken and not operating the system, you would have other issues other than ac trouble if that were the case.

Your tire dealer can help you with that.

It is on the fan shroud or in the owners manual. If it is not there, go to a used car lot where there is a like car and draw your own schematic.

A Geo Metro has up to three drive belts, which should be adjusted as follows: A/C 8-10 mm @ 10 kg (22 lbs) Water Pump and Alternator 5-7 mm @ 10 kg (22 lbs) Power Steering 8-10 mm @ 10 kg (22 lbs) All of these are for newly installed belts. To adjust, you loosen the bolt on the belt adjustor (it it a pulley mounted onto a metal plate which can be adjusted by sliding the adjustor bolt along a track) and move the adjustor out by pushing or prying it away until you can only push on the belt as per the specs. Usually you just push on the belt with your thumb (this is actually what the factory service manual pictures) to check its tension. when it is properly adjusted, tighten the bolt up to 23 N-m (17 foot pounds) so the adjustor won't slip. Used belts have a slightly wider range of adjustment. If you tighten it up and it becomes loose quickly, it's time for a new belt. Never let a old belt break on you and leave you stranded, they cost much less than a tow.
