How do you find out what transmission is in an 88 suburban?

You have one of these two

Suburban - 1/2 ton 1987-1992 TH700-R4/4L60

Suburban - 3/4 ton 1987-1990 TH400/3L80

Wish to confirm see link below.

Hope This Helps.

Check your steering coloumn. If it is factory and does NOT have the overdrive(the D outlined) then you probably have the TH400. You can also tell by the shape of the transmission pan and sometimes the pan has either a code or the actual "TH400" or "TH700-R4" stamped on it. Get underneath with a cameraphone and take a pic and go to the auto parts store or dealership.

What are the symptoms of automatic transmission failure?

I have a 1999 Dodge Caravan SE, While I am driving things are alright, but when slowing down to a stop the transmission downshift late. What causes thisand is there anything I should be concerned about. Recently, I put some more transmission fluid in . could I have overfilled it?

This should help:

Complete automatic transmission failure is obvious because the car will not move at all when shifted into forward or reverse. Usually the symptoms of impending automatic transmission failure are not quite as dramatic, and can be inspected by a mechanic to determine if the transmission needs replacing or if there is any chance the problem can be repaired.

  1. Delayed Shifting
  2. One common symptom of automatic transmission problems is delayed shifting when the vehicle is cold, particularly for reverse or first gear. Loss of One Gear
  3. Sometimes one gear will go out entirely while the others still function. If fourth or reverse gear fails, for instance, the vehicle at least can be driven to a shop. Unusual Shifting Speeds
  4. Shifting may take place at unusual speeds, earlier or later than it should. The speed where shifting takes place also may keep changing. Noise and Jerking
  5. Any noise while shifting is a symptom of automatic transmission failure, and so is rough, jerky shifting. Odd Movement
  6. If the vehicle tries to move while in park or neutral, it most likely has automatic transmission failure. Shift Lever Issues
  7. If the shift lever is difficult to move, this indicates transmission problems as well.

Symptoms of a bad transmission?

Feeling the gears slip while driving or having a difficult time getting the speed past 30mph no matter how hard you press the gas pedal.

Where is the transmission filter on a Saturn car?

The filter is on the drivers side,in front of tranny. You may have access it from the bottom side. If this is an older Saturn, it is likely a red-colored filter that looks much like an oil filter.

For many vehicles, it's behind the trans oil pan.

Some vehicles have it behind a side cover.

Some just haven't got one.

Are you driving a 2005 Acura TL or an old Desoto? What color is it? Is it a stick?

How does a shaft drive work?

It works with gears on both ends of a shaft in stead of a chain. If you have two wheels and they both have gears just like a chain drive but replace the chain with a single shaft that also has gears on each end, you will understand how a shaft drive works.

When cold transmission slips when shifting in second gear?

When the cold transmission slips when shifting in the second gear, it means that either the fluid level is not correct or the filters are faulty. When this happens, your gearbox may need extensive repair or may need replacement.

Why is your transmission slipping on hilly terrain?

The transmission will slip when the clutch pack material has worn away significantly, or if the load on the transmission is greater than it was designed for.

Is the 2.4l dohc 16v engine in a 2004 srt-4 the same engine as a 2004 dodge stratus sedan with a 2.4l dohc 16v?

no the stratus rt is a 3.0 v6

the srt-4 was only in the neon The srt4 engine is very similar to the regular 2.4L. There are some internal differences though. The only difference is the srt-4 components in the motor which can be bought as a rebuild kit if you are yanking a 2.4 from the stratus to drop it in something else, like a neon.

How do you repair a 93 Lincoln Town Car that will not go into gear?

First, does the ignition key operate properly? Does the steering wheel move freely? These cars are designed to lock the steering wheel and shift lever when the key is not in the "run" position. (the one before the "start" position) This car may also have a shift lockout that blocks the shift lever unless the brake pedal is depressed. If that all seems ok, check the shift linkage from the bottom of the steering column to the transmission. It may be a rod or a cable. See if moving the shift lever also moves the transmission shifting arm. If everything checks out ok, you probably have an internal problem. Has the car been shifted into park while it was moving? That can jam the transmission lock called the "parking prawl" and will probably require tranny repair.

Try this: Put the car into neutral, THEN start it. It should shift normally--and if it does, you have an interlink issue that is caused by the break pedal needing to be depressed when you start in Park. That switch can fail and keep you from being able to move the lever into gear.

How do you remove engine from transmission 2001 chey s-10 4.3?

Well, I'm assuming you got the motor and trans out in one piece. If doing this in the vehicle be prepared to cuss, a lot. Simply take the nuts off the studs around the bellhousing, there should be something like 9 of them but it's been awhile since I've had a 4L60E out. Unbolt the 3 bolts from the torque converter (you have to take the cover off the bottom of the bellhousing to access them, and you'll need a prybar to hold the flywheel in one place unless the motor is locked up). If you don't take these 3 bolts out, no big deal except when the torque converter pulls off the imput shaft you will spill fluid everywhere. Disconnect any wiring harnesses, and don't forget about the dipstick. Now, was that really that hard?

Why has your transmission quit working with no forward or reverse while engine still runs?

Answer

You mean you forward and reverse while the engine is shut off????? How can that be?

Funny man that guy. Have you checked your fluid level? Also checked to see if your trans oil looks or smells like it has been burnt. Hopefully your only low on trans fluid, otherwise you will need to take it in for repairs.

What does Automatic Transmission mean?

It means that you do not have stick shift in your car, your car shifts gears for you, you don't have to do it, so basically if you don't have a stick shift car you have an automatic transmission car.

How much do automatic cost?

For a quick and dirty estimate of where you might expect bids from professional sprinkler contractors to come in, use a range of $0.50 to $1.25 per square foot of area to be watered. Small properties and properties with complicated layouts will tend to be at the higher end of that range. Where you live and what type of equipment you select will also impact the range of bids.

If you are installing the system yourself, you should be able to buy equivalent materials at a home improvement store for about 15-20% more than a contractor will pay at a contractor supply store; however, you will need to factor in rental of trenchers and whether you can install the backflow prevention device, so you should figure your total cost of installing an equivalent system yourself will be 40-50% of a professional sprinkler contractor bid.

For more specific information you can search for "Sprinkler System Designer" on the internet and find applications that will let you put in the parameters of your yard and will output a parts list with prices.
