Would a bad mass air flow sensor cause the engine to idle rough and start hard when hot in a Taurus - Sable?

Answer:

The Mass Air Flow Sensor is probably a lesser culprit than some other possibilities in a Ford. Usually the effects would be felt while at speed and trying to accelerate since the micro filament used in many Ford models tends to fail while accelerating (even in park while simply pressing the gas quickly).

The problem is finding the actual source of the trouble if the MAF is not at fault. Start with the fuel filter and air filter(since they are the easiest to check and the cheapest to replace), then you may want to have the throttle position sensor tested. If neither of these are the problem, you may need to have your starter, battery, and or fuel injectors examined. Without hearing the engine and playing around with it a little bit, it's hard to diagnose this type of problem.

It would also depend on the year it was made and which engine is in the chassis.

If it does turn out to be the MAF, you probably will not be able to buy the part from anyone except Ford.

Answer:

The MAF helps the engine to calculate the timing of fuel delivery, and spark advance. It certainly could lead to rough idling, but probably would not contribute to a hard start when the engine was already hot.

Why wont your 1998 suzuki gsxr 750 start when it is cold?

try warming your spark plugs with a lighter, if that does not work check your fuel mixture, or clean the carburetor.

What is a cylinder 1 misfire on a 2003 VW Jetta?

cylinder 1 misfire, is probably a bad ignition coil, it plugs into the spark plug as a coil wire unit, if you have a v6 your #1 cylinder will start on the passenger side and #6 will end on the driver side if its a 4 cylinder #1 will be closer to the radiator and 4 will be closer to the front window, bad coil causes loss of power, and just a shakey ride, it can easily be replaced and cost about 30.00 bucks also think about changing your plugs while you're at it.

What would cause tail light failure on a BMW Comp but all the lights seem to be working well?

This can be tricky. first make absolutley sure ALL lights are working correctly, back up lights, license plate lights, turn signals, third brake light and all exterior lights are working. and also make sure they are all the same light brightness. if all are good then i would suggest seeing what light it says is out in your instrument cluster,i assume its a rear light. go in the trunk and remove the tail light assemblies from the trunk, (these are the main brake light circuit board assemblies that hold the bulbs) then disconnect the connector to them and inspect the pins, make sure there are no burn marks and they are all good, both in the connector and the circuit board assembly. if still no luck, check the rubber boot that the trunk lid hinges are by that route the wires through, you can pull the boot out and inspect the wires inside making sure none are damaged from the hinge of the trunk being moved. hope this helps.

How many quarts of oil does a 1994 jetta need?

Answer:A 1994 Jetta with 2.0 4 cyl engine takes 3.7 quarts of oil without changing the oil filter. With the filter change it is 4.2 Quarts. The 2.8 V6 engine takes 5.3 quarts of oil without the filter change. With the filter change it takes 5.8 Quarts. I recomment changing the engine oil filter with every oil change.

How do you reset the check engine light on a 98 Olds intrigue?

With an OBD2 scan tool. If you do not correct whatever the problem is that caused the light to come on, it will just come back on again. Pull the codes from the computer, match the code to the troubleshooting procedure, follow the procedure to find the source. Repair the source, light will go out if that was the only problem. There are "monitors" or self tests the computer runs the car through a drive cycle, if a problem occurs, it may not run all of the self tests until that problem is taken care. Therefore, another problem may exist. It is emission related. OR hook up a scanner that is capable of clearing codes, and hope that none are still active. The " check engine light" is by far one of the most misunderstood technological advances by the public. I am sure I will revise this as time goes on, as it is an in-depth understanding for the public. It is a warning light that is illuminated when there is a problem with the EMISSION SYSTEM only. Emission system being the pollution control system. Don't get a hard on against it as it is a good thing once you understand it. One point that was brought up a a recent meeting of technicians was that the amount of hydrocarbons is greater when the gas cap is left off than when the engine is running. Hydrocarbons are part of pollution emitted as gasoline evaporates. Going a step farther, one facet of the emission system is the "Evaporative" portion. This is when the fumes from the gasoline are leaking from the system into the outside air. This is one part of the emission system that can trigger a check engine light. I would say that about 7% of the vehicles that have a check engine light are the result of a loose or inadequate gas cap. But understand that many scenarios are possible with the "check engine light" The vehicle's powertrain computer (note that some vehicles have 17 different computers) will run a series of self-tests. They will only run under certain criteria. And they can be vastly different from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some self-tests are not run until preceding ones have run successfully. So if there is a problem in one particular area that is preventing another self test from running, you can have a situation where one problem is fixed, but another still exists. If you fix a problem and drive the car through a drive cycle that sets the monitor (or self test) the light will go off as it passes that criteria that triggered it in the first place. After 1996, the auto industry went to a idea called OBD II (on board diagnostics). This was to get all the manufacturers onto a similar plane for troubleshooting and powertrain control. While they still differ vastly, many corrections and adaptations were made for technicians to better fix the check engine light problems. Prior to this there were so many different and poor troubleshooting data from a check engine light problem that resolving the problem was much more difficult. Many early warning light of this nature were set to illuminate based on mileage. An Oxygen sensor was one of the things that were meant to be replaced when that mileage was hit. This is much like many current "Change oil lights

What could be wrong with a 1998 Ford Escort Sport if neither the air or heater will blow but the blower motor resistor and switch have been replaced with no luck?

I HOPE TO GOD THAT YOU'VE CHECKED THE FUSE! IF NOT, EITHER THE FAN ITSELF OR THE FAN SPEED CONTROL ON THE DASH. BEST WAY TO TELL IF IT'S THE SWITCH IS WITH A MULTI-METER under the dash on the passenger side there are a couple wires that have to be plugged in or replaced. this is a common problem with escorts I had a similar problem. Check the connections to the blower motor, located under the passenger side dash next to the motor housing. The plugs on my car got corroded from AC condensation and came loose probably by being hit by passengers feet. Try making sure those connections are tight and clean.

Where is the blower motor resistor pack located on a 2000 Mercury Mystique?

The resistor is located on the duct work under the dash. Sitting in the passenger seat facing forward it is to the left of the blower motor mounted on the duct work firewall.

Where is the air cabin filter on a 2006 2.5L Jetta?

It's underneath the glove compartment. I think when I replaced my filter, I had to take the plastic piece on the right off. It's the piece that runs along the bottom of the doorway. That seems kind of confusing, but I think that's what I did. Hope that helps!

2001 vw jetta windshield wipers stopped working. checked and the fuse is good.?

Check the wiper relay. If it is good, then either the wiper motor or the wiper switch is bad. If it just stopped working one day for no reason, I would suspect the wiper motor. However,I just had this problem and it was the windshield wiper transmission, they started getting slower and slower over a few months and then it was seized one day. That is one strong motor VW uses so it is hard to go bad.
