On a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Van, open the hood. The resistor assembly is at your upper left on the heater/AC ducting, with a cable of wires going to it, a trapezoidal plate about 2" x 3" held on by two small screws. Inside, it has a shrouded set of three resistors plus an unknown gidget that looks like a resistor about 0.1" x 0.5". On my van, the resistors are fine but the gidget is open circuit, or else it's a capacitor to stop radio interference. I also have a blown out motor (open circuit), and a shredded up flimsy, chintzy plastic fan. The ducting was clean, no sign of debris to block the fan except for pieces of fan blades. All you have to do is open the hood. On the back of the head light, pull the plug off. Depending on the last time the lights were changed it may be difficult. I know when I changed mine I broke one of them. Once you get the plug off, pull of the rubber gasket off. Then there will be a gold screw holding a wierd looking wire. Take it off. Then pull off the wire. Then, take out the bulb. Remember to never touch the bulb. Hold it by the base only. The replacement bulbs are 9003. Then once you get the new one in do the directions above in reverse.

This is a partial answer. It appears there are two methods, depending on the vintage of the Jetta. These methods require special tools, which are available on the web for less than $20. One method requires a "DIN" tool set, which is a pair of U-shaped rods. These tools match up with four holes at the left and the right side of the radio. The other method requires flat keys which are inserted above or below the radio. A related issue is that the radio must be reset if power is removed, such as when the radio is disconnected or the battery runs down.
