This is not an easy thing to do plus there are sharp edges inside the door that can cause severe cuts. I suggest taking it to an auto trim shop.

This is a common repair that VW is aware of. Just call a local VW dealership and request to get it fixed. There is a 7yr period that you can do this as long as the car has a clean title and was bought in the U.S. The repair facility will replace the regulator in the door as well as the cables.

You will need to remove the inside door panel of your 2002 VW Jetta. Remove the wiring harness from the mirror. Remove the side view mirror retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new side view mirror.

Yes. There is a switch that is located under the dash. When you press on the brake it should make the light go out. If it doesn't, the switch probably needs to be replaced. You can see the switch if you look up to toward the top of the brake's arm. You can remove it by turning it a quarter turn and pulling back and then unplugging it. I had the same problem and replacing the switch solved it.

You are correct in that the Central Security Module (CSM) is responsible for central locking (Remove trim from above driver's footwell and you'll see the security module mounted above the engine ecu (PCM). It's a small black box with two connectors (one blue, one green).

Are there any fault codes stored in the CSM? (Ford > Focus > Security > 1.6 > Petrol > 2000 > 1.6I 16V Zetec-SE > All Codes > CSM ISO)

The CSM can be replaced for a used one, no coding needed, just have to add in the remotes (manual process). I got a used CSM off a well-known auction site for less than £15 hoping to cure a fault on my Focus.

If you do get hold of a replacement module make sure it has the same functions labelled on the case: RF = Remotes, CL = Central Locking, DL = Double Locking, AL = Alarm

I don't know about the years in questions, but in regards to a straight swap, the answer is no. Since you are going from Auto to Manual, you also have to swap the tranny.

It depends on how the steel is heat treated, so there isn't a single answer.

make sure that the latching mechanism is open and not closed.. that's the part that is shaped like a c where the door meets the striker(the nob that sticks out from the car) if its closed it would be like running into a closed door.. when open it should close around it correctly..if not you may need to replace the nob. Not expensive either.
