What is the difference between front wheel drive and rear wheel drive in cars?

First of im not sure how detailed you want this answer to be but ill give you a breif overview :

FWD- basically the engine sends power to the front two wheels.

This results is UNDERSTEER meaning when you try to turn left and you take the corner too fast, you will end up turning wide. Feels like ure not turning at all, feels like ure going striaght even though the wheels are turned left. Why? because the front wheels lose friction/grip and so the the tire cannot grip the road and turn the front of the car left. So the back of the car goes straight since it has grip which pushes the front of the car which has no grip forward instead of into the left corner.

FWD cars are safer due to understeer because if u turn left and the car doesnt turn, all u have to do is slow down brake and the front wheel will start to regain grip and start to turn again. Which is why for example the toyoto corolla is FWD and understeers.

Also FWD are cheaper and more spacious cause you mount the engine on the front wheel compared to a RWD where u have engine front and have components running to the back two wheels, meaning more maintenance and harder to build.

RWD- The engine sends power to the rear two wheels pushing the car.

Hence the car OVERSTEERS, meaning when u turn left and go into the corner too fast the car will turn too much. This causes the car to spin, because ure rear wheels lose grip but the front wheels are turned the the left which have grip causing the back of the car which lost grip to move forward while the front of the car go left because its turning and has grip. This will lead to a spin towards the left and spin outta control where the back of the car comes out.

RWD is more dangerous and also alot of fun because if u oversteer meaning u turn left and the back of the car comes out and the car starts to spin an average driver will not be able to regain control. BUT if your an experienced driver when you turn left and the car starts to spin you can counter steer (as the back comes out instead of turning left start turning right) and drift around the corner so to speak which is why experienced drivers prefer RWD because its alot of fun! Which is why a corvette is RWD because u can drift and power slide, but if u are inexperienced u can also get yourself in a serous accident.

For racing RWD is used cause you can have 50/50 weight dsitribution balancing the car instead of having the car front heavy as in a FWD. In a sports car u want a balanced car so that all the wheels have equal weight on them and a RWD drive can acheive that better than a fwd car.

4WD/AWD-The engine can send power to all four wheels. So if you have a skyline GTR R33 for instance which has AWD, primarily power is sent to the rear wheels, but if the car starts to over steer the ATTESA-ETS will send power to the front wheels to counter the oversteer and induce understeer, which is why the Skyline GTR series is so famous. Making AWD cars to have wat people say neutral steering.

(Remind you, understeer, oversteer and neutral also depend on suspension design, weight distribution etc. So we cannot say all FWD cars must understeer or all RWD car must oversteer. In fact, car makers usually design the suspension geometry to compensate for oversteer or understeer generated by FWD / RWD and weight distribution. But in general FWD cars understeer and RWD cars oversteer)

What kind of gasoline should a VW Beetle 2002 use?

Check the gas door and look at the sticker and see what is recommended for your car.

Where is the clutch oil reservoir in a new beetle located?

After looking and consulting with techs, I found the reservoir to be included with the brake system. You should see a separate, unpressurized hose coming off the side (right) that leads down to the master clutch cylinder. This was on a 2004 VW New Beetle convertible.

Do 1974 super beetles need lubrication with oil changes?

Well, there's really not any grease points on a Super Beetle that I can remember.

Maybe lube the door hinges. There's a small plastic plug on top of the hinges that can be carefully taken off with a dull knife and then just put a few drops of oil in the holes then replace the plugs. Make sure there isn't any rust or crud in there, if there is then just get a small brad nail or something and dig it out first.

You could take the cap off the rotor and put a few drops of oil on the felt in the shaft. They both should probably be done every oil change or maybe every other one to be safe.

How do you i change a headlight in a 2004 turbo vw beetle?

there is a curved lever inside the engine compartment on each light casing. Lift it up. This releases the headlight assembly enough to reach a precision flathead in the face of the vehicle around the headlight to push up four tabs releasing the headlight lense allowing the bulbs to be changed. Careful with the lever and the lense, they are designed weak and the adhesive holding the lense may come apart. Installing is the reverse. Slide in the snaps and push gently while pushing the lever back down.

How do you reset the remote key when you replace battery on a 2033 vw jetta?

There is nothing to reset. Just change the battery and if you have it in correctly it will work.

Where is the turn signal flasher on a 1970 vw beetle?

its either on the fuse block or behind the instrument cluster in the trunk/hood, whatever you wanna call it... should be covered up somehow. you need to remove things to be able to get to all the wiring there.

Is a 2002 Ford Ranger 2.3l an interference motor?

No. You can break the timing belt and not have any problems from valves getting bent. The caveat is that you don't have after market high compression pistons installed. If it is an unmolested factory motor, just change the timing belt and forget about it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The 2.3 L in a 2002 Ford Ranger is a DOHC engine ( DURATEC ? ) that uses a timing CHAIN . I don't know if it is an interference motor or not

Why is there a squeaking noise when driving slow under your beetle 2000?

There might be a squeaking noise when driving slow in your 2000 Beetle because your suspension needs to be replaced. The squeaking can also come from the universal joint.

How do you change the battery in a 2006 VW Beetle?

Did you check the instruction manual? Usually they will mention it in there.

Disconnect negative and then positive battery connections. Unscrew the mounting brackets. Remove the battery and reverse the process with the new battery.

How do you change the spark plugs on a 1997 E320?

Very easily!!!

When your looking at the top of your engine, you willnotice a black intake tube that runs over the valvecover, this needs to be removed. 2 10mm nuts on center,1 hose clamp on the right side, (where it goes into the intake)will need very long screw driver for this one, (can be purchasedat Harbor frieght for very cheap. Then there should be someclamps on the left side.

Once you have the intake tube removed, then all you have to dois remove the cover for the spark plugs, which is directly on topof the valve cover, should be held in by Allen screws. once thatcover is removed the coils and plugs will be visble. remove the coilsthat sit on top of the spark plugs, then remove the spark plugs.

Good luck!

How do you change brakes on a front wheel drive car?

Is the alternator on a 1973 VW Beetle and a 1974 Super Beetle the same?

The Bell housing on the engines are located in slightly different areas. Thus the Altenator was relocated. The Super Beatle Altenator is 3 bolt, and smaller. HOpe this helps.. Reximus Manning. There are two alternators for Volkswagen Beetles: the Bosch AL82X, and the Motorola abomination they threw on there for a while when Bosch couldn't make enough AL82X to meet VW's needs. They're the same size, so if you've got a 74 SB and a 73 alternator, go ahead and install it Since the sheetmetal is the same between the two, you're fine. (If you were moving an alternator from a 72 to a 74, you'd have to switch the backing plates because VW changed the fan shroud that year, and the backing plates are different.)

How do you replace the driver side headlight low beam bulb on a 2003 Mazda 6?

Answerremove air filter box, just a few clips i believe, move out of the way, then there is a metal clip.. just pay attention how it comes apart. then reverse order. New AnswerI've just replaced the driver side low beam bulb myself, and it's not necessary to remove any box. BUT TAKE THE COVER OFF THE BOXES ANYWAY SO YOU CAN SEE BETTER The whole process takes just 5 minutes.

You will need:

a) A new bulb, obviously.

b) A small torch, even in daylight.

c) A latex or PVC glove, which are sold in packs of 50 or so at your local DIY shop. This will prevent your fingers coming into contact with the bulb glass, and will protect your hand from the oil/grease/etc inside the engine compartment.

Here's the procedure:

1) There's a black plastic cap protecting the low beam bulb compartment. Twist it anti-clockwise (COUNTER CLOCKWIRE IN AMERICA) by less than 1cm and remove it. IT IS "KEYED" AND HAS A "Y" IMPRINTED ON IT'S BACK, THE KEY SLOTS ARE JUST SLIGHTLY OFF CENTER WHEN THE COVER IS IN THE OPEN POSITION & STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN WHEN LOCKED

2) With the torch, look inside the the bulb compartment to get an idea of where everything is. This is important because you won't see much with your hand inside.

3) The bulb is held in place by a spring clip. THE CLIP RELEASE IS JUST UNDER THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BULB REAR ELECTRICAL CONNECTION TERMINAL (BLACK PLUG ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ATTACHED TO BACK OF BULB), REMOVE THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AND YOU WILL SEE THE CLIP HAS A "D" SHAPED HANDLE WHICH IS HOOKED TO THE LIGHT HOUSING, PUSH THE CLIP "D" FORWARD (TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE CAR) AND TO THE LEFT TO UNHOOK THE SPRING CLIP (SAME BOTH PASSENGER & DRIVER SIDE) This disengages it. Then swing it up, out of the way.

4) The bulb is connected to a socket (BLACK PLUG AS NOTED ABOVE) at the end of a wire. Gently pull them out of the bulb compartment.

5) With the bulb and socket now outside the bulb compartment, pull the bulb out of the socket AMERICAN HEADLIGHT BULB IS A ONE PIECE ITEM (NO SOCKET)

6) Reverse this process to install the new bulb. NOTING THE FLAT SIDE OF THE NEW BULB BASE FITS INTO THE HOUSING ONLY ONE WAY, FLAT SIDE DOWN POINTING TO THE RIGHT, AS VIEWED FROM LEANING OVER THE CAR FROM THE FRONT (LEANING FORWARD LOOKING BACK INTO YOUR LAP) THERE IS A METAL PIECE STICKING UP TO PREVENT THE BULB FROM BEING SEATED IN ANY WAY EXCEPT THE PROPER WAY.

IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO LOOSEN OR REMOVE SOME ITEMS BLOCKING THE ACCESS TO THE REAR OF THE LIGHT FIXTURE, SUCH AS THE ANTIFREEZE RESERVOIR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, OR THE FUSE BOX COVER AND AIR FILTER COVER ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, IN ORDER TO SEE PROPERLY OR GET BIG HANDS INTO SMALL SPOTS, AND REASSEMBLY WILL BE MUCH EASIER IF YOU HAVE MINI SIZED HANDS OR WIFE/GIRL FRIEND TO HELP.

When finished test the lights. Note that the new bulb will not illuminate until it is clipped back into the bulb compartment again. BECAUSE THE BASE OF THE BULB IS THE GROUND SIDE OF THE BULB CIRCUIT

THIS ENTIRE PROCEDURE IS EASILY DONE WITH EXPERIENCE & ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT KNOWING HOW THE LIGHT IS ASSEMBLED, THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS ARE VERY POOR ACCESS, POOR VISIBILITY IN IDENTIFYING THE "D" SIDE OF THE CLIP, AND GETTING BIG HANDS INTO SMALL SPOTS, GOOD LUCK AND REMEMBER THE "D" YOU WILL RUIN EVERY THING IF YOU DONT UNHOOK IT PROPERLY. What level do you fill the oil bath to in a 1970 Bug if there is no mark?

There is a seam or a step near the bottom of most VW oil bath air filters. Fill to that point. It doesn't take much. Throughly wash the metal filter element using solvent or engine degreaser first, then thoroughly rinse it with water and if you have access to an air compressor, blow the filter elements dry. Then spray oil on the filter elements just before you re-assemble the filter.

How do you lower a 1964 VW bug?

Answer

The rear tortion bars have different sizes of spline, inboard or outboard, so you turn the trailing arm on the tortion bar until you reach the desired height eg. down 1 large, too high,up one small till you find a combo that works

The front main beam can be replaced with an adjustable one.
I have heard you can grind the welds off the tubes, turn them and reweld, but check that, because I've never done it

Purchase dropped spindles for the front
