Water Pumps

Replacing the water pump on a Legacy motor is fairly easy-- you just unbolt the old one, clean the gasket surface on the block, and bolt the new one on. Ummm, what makes this job tougher is you must remove the timing belt to access the water pump, as the timing belt drives the water pump. This then is a grand time to replace your timing belt while you are at it. Both these jobs (the timing belt and the water pump) require precision and attention to detail. Make sure to refill the radiator several times before firing the engine up, and recheck it once the thermostat has opened, then engine cooled. Legacy's make dandy air pockets in their cooling systems-- these pockets purge out when thermostat opens, then you are low on coolant.

Find the side of the engine that has all the pulleys and belts. Under one of those pulleys that is connected to the engine you will find the water pump. I cannot tell you which one exactly. You could go to www.autozone.com and go under the repair info button and look for it that way.

For you to even ask a question like this here tells me its best for you to bring it to a professional repair man. The water pump is requires removing many other parts to get to it, most recommend just having that done when you get your timing belt changed.

dont know where a diagram of is,but if looking at the front of the car on the right side of the motor in the front you will see a bracket thats covering a belt that is the water pump belt and pulleythat is connected to the water pump housing,to get to the water pump,you have to remove that bracket and once that is removed you will see a metel cover on the there is 4 bolts that hold the water pump on they have to come out,you will have to remove the air filter and disconnect all the water hoses goning into the water pump cover,once all is removed and the 4 bolts are removed you will need a tool to remove the water pump.autozone rents that tool for abt 30.00.hope that helps..there's not alot of room be its not that hard.the hard part is getting the new one in with out messing up the gasket ring that came with the new water pump,they dont sell that at autozone..just got mine replaced.

you undo the tire housing and pull off the exaust manifold. replace the muffler fluid and then your done

The water rush makes the noise

On the V6 L300 it is in the passenger side of the car directly below the motor mount. The bolts are behind the timing belt cover.

Not an easy job. Get a manual on your car from AUTOBOOKSONLINE.COM.

The pulley can easily be removed from the tensioner by loosening the bolt in the center. (the same one you use to loosen the tension to put the belt on.

put a socket wrench on the bolt (mine is 15mm) and loosen. once the bolt is removed the pulley will come right off.

tighten the bolt with the new pulley in place until the bolt pulls against the spring loaded tensioner. turning the bolt tighter will also loosen the tension to replace the belt. I found that threading the belt in place over the tensioner pulley first and then releasing the tension while I slide the belt onto the alternator pulley worked better because the wrench was in the way if I try to put the belt on the tension pulley last.

good luck getting it loose enough to get the belt on. two people would make the job a lot easier.

On all the cars that I have worked on, it's on the front on the engine block in the center. There should be two large hoses running from your radiator that carry water. One is at the top, and one is at the bottom. Those hoses run to the water pump.

The water pump on the 92 Laser is easily replaced. You just need to untension the the belt driving the bump. Once you have done that all you need to do is undo the bolts and take the pump into your local auto parts dealer. Now that you have the pump install it and retension the belt.

Just did one last week, on my car. U actually have to remove alternator belt and powersteering/a/c belts, then remove timing belt cover, remove timing belt adjuster, and slide timing belt off top pulley, making sure you mark it before removing it, so as to put it back in same position. Next, unbolt 2 bolts at bottom of water pump (this is a bit fiddly, but doable, then, undo water pump, replace with new water pump, being sure to use gasket cement, aswell as new gasket, which should be supplied with pump, then put it all back together, in reverse order of removal. Fill cooling system, check for leraks, and voila, u have done it :)
