How do you replace the alternator on a 1992 Oldsmobile?
Disconnect the battery. Make a drawing of the belt routing. locate the belt tensioner pully and release enough belt pressure so a cohort can remove the serpentine belt off the closest pully. Remove the bolted on battery cable and electrical plug from the alternator and the mounting bolts or remove the bolts so you can access the electrical connection. Remove the ALT. Reverse the procedure to install your new alt. You will have to move the tensioner again to get the belt back on that last pulley.

Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the drive belt. Raise the vehicle and support it on jackstands. Remove the splash shield from the inner fender panel on the passengers side of the vehicle. Detach all wiring to the alternator. working under the vehicle remove the alternator lower mounting bolt. Working inside the engine compartment, remove the rear mounting bolt and the alternator brace (if equipped). Remove any wiring harness retaining clips and remove the alternator thru the opening created by the removal of the splash shield. Installation is the reverse of removal.

NewIf it is anything like my 91' GSI, you're probably asking about the "tight fit" that the alternator seems to have. With a LOT of patience, the alternator is removed by two 14mm bolts below the main tension bolt (that bolt does not have enough room to be removed). After that, you may have to remove the right-side CV-axel to fully remove it. My personal experience wasn't bad because I had totally removed the air-conditioning system and hoses. The alternator can be removed top-side if this is done. -JegoyetHow do you tighten the alternator belt of a 1996 Ford Explorer?
There is a tension pully on the front of the motor. Behind the 1.5 inch 'roller' there is a bolt that moves the tensioner in and out, I'm not a pro but grab a wrench and crank down on it clockwise until you get the tension you want.
Hope it helps you out. I've done this twice with mine.

Answeron all 1993 and newer explorers you have a serpentine belt with an automatic adjusting belt tentsioner there is no adjusting. if you have to much slack you may have the wrong belt or you need to change the belt tensioner.if it is a miner squeak try some chalk on the smoth pully this is a temp fix though.I did have a problem with m 1996 explorer 4ltr V6 that even Ford couldn't find, belt made so much noise, it was the bracket that holds the alternator { loose bolt } on the engine block so the auto adjuster was still loose, tightened the bolt and all is good, I hope this helps someone.
How would you route the alternator belt for a 1987 325 BMW?
how do u tighten up an alternator belt on a 1987 BMW 325i?
Answerhow do u tighten up an alternator belt on a 1987 BMW 325i?The Body control module controls what happens when you turn the key. It powers up the Engine computer and various other computers. It also controls the headlights and a lot of other accessories. For example it will turn on day time running lamps when you start the car. If you leave the headlights on after turning off the car it will leave the headlights on for .5 hr afterwards and then it will turn them off for you so it wont kill the battery. The BCM (Body control Module) has a bunch of fuses in it along with a computer that you probably cant see due to the fact that is encapsulated in plastic. Hope this helps!

How do you test an alternator to see if it is still good?
Pull the hot battery cable off of the battery if the alternator is bad the engine will stall out.
12/07 If you have the unit out, run it down to your local parts dealer (probably shouldn't say their name) and they can bench test it for you. Most of these places will do it for free in hopes of selling you a new one. If you have the older-style (pre-electronic) system, it's as easy as having the car idling, connecting a voltmeter to the battery, then (here's the scary part) connect the large post on the alternator's back to the small post. It's best to do this with a medium gauge, insulated test jumper. This, in effect, forces the alternator to put out to its maximum. Do NOT rev the engine at all, unless you're due to replace every light in the car that happens to be on during the test. Assuming all your connections are clean and tight, you should expect the voltmeter to display at least 14.5 volts. Keep in mind that a battery that's anything but fully charged will skew your readings, but you can still compare the before and after numbers while connecting the jumper.

How do you replace the alternator on 2003 Honda Civic?
I just did this last week on a Honda civic lx 4 cyl. In order for the alternator to be removed you will have to remove the power steering pump and reservoir first. The reservoir just unclips the pump will have a wing nut and I believe it was a 14mm bolt towards the rear bracket that will not come out all the way just loosen it until it hits the chassis and another 12 mm for the tensionser (where the wing nut is) after those are loosened up the pump will come loose take the belt off and move the pump and reservoir to the side. Now you can access the alternator. There is also a wing nut for the tensioner and a 14 or 12 mm bolts to remove. Oh yeah don't forget the basics disconnect the negative from battery then proceed to remove the wires from the alternator one is 10mm and the other is a clip which you may need a small flat head to lift the tab. Good luck. edit: to reinstall I used a prybar to put tension back on the belts for the simple fact it is almost impossible to put enough torque with the wingnuts to tighten the belts. Then you can tighten the wingnuts with ease.
Your battery on your car will not stay charged what could it be?
There could be many causes for this problem. Some of them include:
There are probably several other possible causes, but these are the ones that come to mind at the moment.
I suggest that you take your vehicle to one of the major auto parts supply stores to have your electrical and charging system tested. They usually have portable testing gear and can run the tests on your vehicle in their parking lot. Normally, there is no charge for this service.
If this service is not available in your area, then it can be done at any automotive mechanical/electrical repair shop, but generally they do not do it for free.
How do you change an alternator in a 2001 Oldsmobile intrigue?
ITs a bit of a pain.
The book tells you to take apart the suspension but who wants to do that so I will give you what I think is an easier version.
Quick version.
Remove both cross braces (strut tower to the upper radiator core support).
Remove air cleaner box and tube.
Remove the upper engine torque mount bracket and remove it from the radiator core support.
Remove the battery and the battery tray.
Remove the radiator and condenser fan assembly.
Remove the battery wires and clips from the alternator.
Drain the overflow bottle.
Remove the overflow bottle nuts and set it aside / to the back a bit.
Remove the nut holding the fuse junction block and set it to the back a bit.
Use a wire if you need to tie back the overflow and the fuse block out of the way of the belt.
Use a ½ inch drive ratchet on the belt tenchoner and remove the serpentine belt.
Alternator has 3 bolts 2 on the side of it or the front of the motor and one on the front of it / side of the motor.
Remove the idler pulley next to the alternator this is bolt one.
Loosen both side bolts don't remove yet.
Messy part.
Remove the water neck / thermostat housing and lower radiator hose.
Alternator will not come out without taking this off.
Pull it back out of the way.
Finnish taking the front bolts out.
You can now slide the alternator out to the side and up the battery area.
It is tight but will come out.
You should not have to replace the gasket on your thermostat housing.
However be careful putting it back on do it evenly.
80 inch lbs (6.67ft lbs) to hold it on. It's not that much just good and snug.
IF you got that far you should be able to put it all back right.
:P

How do you install alternator belt on a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme?
Loosen all the bolts on the alternator and push down on the alternator and the belt will be loose and you can take it off, to reinstall you put new belt around the water pump and crank pulleys and then put it over the alternator pulley and pull up on the alternator and tighten the bolts back up and you should have a 1/2 " play in the belt when you push down on it, if you have more than that you need to unloosen alternator bolts again and pry the alternator up with a large screwdriver and re-tighten the bolts again and recheck.
