2007 Honda civic starts runs for 3 secs then dies?
This car should still be under warranty, let the dealer solve this.
Shoot a little starting fluid into the air intake and try to start it. Sometimes it just takes a little extra to get the fuel to flow.
ADDED 04-25-06 by Guycaron: Also, consider the possibility that residue at the bottom of your fuel tank has clogged the fuel filter.
or the fuel strainer on the in tank pump, or burnt the pump out, but i know when my mark ran out of gas it took almost 3 gallons to get it back going
Why would the ignition starter fuse in a 97 Dodge Stratus blow everytime you start the car?
your wiring to the fuse box has been loosend or broken. make sure it is pushed all the way in and try again. if that doesnt work than you have break (shortage) in the wiring itself!!!
EDIT:More likely than the idea above, if your starter is over 10yrs. old it may be going bad. a bad starter can actually draw to many amps of electricity as it starts to break down. A bad starter can easily be checked at most auto parts stores by being "bench tested" and measuring the starters draw of amperage. another possibility is the Ignition Switch in your steering column, as you turn your key and activate the switch which in turn sends power to the starter, over thousands of cycles throughout the years it can just wear out. any electrical switch that wears out creates resistance in the line and draws more current. This current spike can cause the fuse to blow. On a good note, both of these items can be replaced by most people with common hand tools (metric socket set, car jack, screwdrivers etc.)at home fairly easily. Just invest in a Chilton or Hayes manual to guide you through the steps.
Whatever you do... NEVER replace the blown fuse with a higher amp fuse as the next weakest link in the chain will be the cars wiring harness itself, and THAT can easily start a fire.!!!!! Start with a new starter.
Where is the fuel reset button on a 1987 Ford econoline royal coach van?
Why won't a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am start after washing the engine?
Did you cover the coil pack before washing? The answer is that in the washing process you got water into one or more parts of the electrical system, in effect grounding [or shorting] a part of the system, rendering it non-functional ["broken"]. "Usually," [though not always] this problem corrects itself ONCE the system has had time to TOTALLY dry out.
Car wont start and there is no movement on the gauges when the ignition is turned on?
I don't know I think its the ignition or some part there of
Bad engine Rings are worn
Bad valves Do a compression test (both wet and dry) to determine which is bad
Ignition key will not turn Ford F250?
i had a similar problem with my vehicle about 2 months ago, i received some expensive advise from a couple of mechanics that went from busting out the barrel to taking apart the column, my truck just happen to break down in a gas station near a locksmith and he charged me $15.00 bucks to hand cut a new key and voila' im still using that same key :)
In a carburetor car when the engine is cold, slowly pump the gas pedal once or twice. Then turn the key and crank the engine for a few seconds. The engine should start up. If not wait a few seconds and recrank the engine. DO NOT repump the gas pedal before each "recrank". If by the second or third crank the vehicle has not "caught" or started, push the gas down slightly and it should start.
If the car should flood, hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank the starter. DO NOT take your foot off the gas pedal after the crank. This will flood the carburetor even worse. And DO NOT crank more that 10 seconds.
Whats wrong when my 1989 5.0 mustang powers up but won't start?
could be a number of things
bad starter
blown fuse
bad bearing in one of the pulleys like the compressor
just to name a few but id check those first starting with the fuses and relaying dealing with cranking. if it trys to turn over and the battery is good but will not start then check pulleys.
How do you get the alternator to turn over?
The alternator is run by a belt connected to the engine. When the engine is running the alternator is turning. The alternator is what produces the electrical current that charges the battery & powers everything electrical while the engine is running. the battery is mainly to start the engine.
How do you tell what model engine of 1999 Plymouth voyager?
Open the hood and look for the white engine information sticker. It will tell you what size engine you have in liters.
Ran out of gas and truck will not start with gas now what do I do?
call a friend and tell them to bring a gallon full of gas and bring it to the location where u where at when the car stopped.
fuel pump is in tank. probably fried it cause they need fuel for cooling. check for fuel pressure at motor or after fuel tank - if no fuel, then change fuel pum in tank and fuel filter on frame rail.
How can you check to see if your car battery is good?
This is very difficult. The old way was to check the specific gravity of the acid/water mixture in the individual cells. You need a voltmeter and know how to use it to check a battery. 35 Percent of battery replacements are unescellaly made because poor connections in the vehicle's charging system, but corrected when you buy the new battery.
What could be wrong on a 1981 Chevy truck if the engine turns but does not starts?
* No gas * Clogged fuel filter * Malfunctioning fuel pump * Spark plug wire * Voltage regulator problems (not allowing enough voltage for spark)
They probably chose the wrong value for the resistor in the key. I'd just go to a locksmith and get it done right the first time.
you need to be more descriptive. Does your car even have a hood on it. Are the doors open and water is seeping in? Your question is too vague. sounds to me like a coinsicence, dont you have a friend that works on cars? The internet is the worst place to find out why your car wont start. What do you mean by " it will die out", the battery will? if so, check your starter. it has a solenoid connected to it and from the vague description i gather that either your battery is to week to push the start or your solenoid is not engaging the starter. either way, bring your starter into AutoZone and have it tested. If all else fails call a friend to help you. Oh. And while your at AutoZone Dont forget to check out the Haynes repair manual for your car. They have an awesome trouble shoot for why your car does what its doing inside. Buy it because from the sounds of it your going to need it.
mine did the same thing when the timing belt broke

After accident car wont start.?
maybe your starter is damaged.Or your battery is.Your ground wire might not be connected or one of your wires is split. You might have done something to your solenoid or your coil.IT could be many things THERE IS ALSO A TRIP RESET IN THE TRUNK OF YOUR CAR THAT HAS TO DO WITH TH FUEL SHUTOFF IN CASE OF A ACCIDENT CHECK THAT AND YOUR OWNERS MANUAL
Where is a fuel filter on a 1997 Chevy Tahoe?
It is on the inside of the frame rail by the cross member on the driverside.
What could cause a 1997 Cadillac Catera to turn over but not start?
Timing belt has slipped or broken. This happened to my Cat just last week after having put a replacement engine in the month before. I am also being told that the engine is "short throw" and could mean that since the timing belt was thrown, the valves may be bent which means the heads need to be pulled. One repair shop has informed me that in order to test if a valve has bent, they will put compressed air to each cylinder to see if they get pressure loss. If they do the valves are not sealing and are bent. Replacing the timing belt does not guarantee that the engine will run! Just another couple feet dug into this money pit!
What would cause a car to stall on the first attempt but start on the second?
If the fuel pump doesn't get a chance to build pressure before you crank the engine, you might not be getting enough fuel when you crank the first time. To test this possibility, turn the key to "on" for a couple seconds before you try to start it, THEN see if it starts on the first crank. If that turns out to be the case, the vehicle might just be leaking down fuel pressure when it sits for a while. It's more of an annoyance than anything seriously wrong.
