Check Engine Light

Any fault the computer detects, is effecting the emissions system. Repair ASAP, as damage can occur to the catalytic converter or O2 sensor, even though the car seems to run OK. The EGR valve

I was in the dealership for the p0410 readout, and I believe the mechanic had the air filter box off the car. I didn't really lock this in my mind, but I believe that's what I saw. But I too am looking for the answer. There is no Haynes for this car and so far I have only found reference to a Chilton's 'W' body manual for the Intrigue and other GM's of the era. The air pump is inside the front fender behind the drivers side headlamp. The best way to acess it is turn your wheel all the way to the right and pull back the plastic wheel well. Three nuts are on the top of mounting bracket. One is best reached from top. One electrical connection and two hoses. The 50 amp fuse and relay are in small fuse box passanger side of engine compartment. Top fuse and the bottom is relay.

Is coolant disappearing from your cooling system? Might be a blown or leaking head gasket. I would say it is your valve stem seals. It is very common for them to need replacement on the 4.6L engines. Keep an eye on your oil level. Mine goes through about 1 quart every 3 weeks or 1000 miles or so.

not good could be weak oil pump of cloged system but also just low idle that is the easy fix hope that is all it is hope this helps

I had this happen two times..one reason can be that you need oil..replace or top off. The other could be that your gas cap wasn't tightened enough..easy fix. The one that requires the most work but not too expensive is that the oil pressure sending unit needed to be replaced..cost about 120 bucks at the mechanic.

I am not sure about the wording of this question. The fed doesn't mandate that a shop or repair facilty sell you anything, as if to say that you must buy what they say is wrong. The owner always has the final word as to what gets fixed on their car and what doesn't. It's up to you. When they scan a car, they are simply asking the car's computer to give the trouble code that caused it to turn the light on. The definition of that code is mandated by the fed. In other words, a P0452 has to mean the same thing that it does on a Ford, Chevy, Hyundai, VW, or any car sold in this country. However, that code does not actually tell you what is wrong. It tells what system there is a problem in(like the EGR system), or what symptom the car is having(like it is running too lean). It takes a technician to figure out why there is a problem in that system, or what is causing the symptom that set the code. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do to Autozone if they gave you the wrong info. A lawyer might tell you differently. One of my best sources of work is these auto parts stores trying to give out free diagnostics, and getting it wrong. I see cars all the time that people went to get something for free, and end up spending way more in wrong parts replaced, than what they would have if they would have just come to see me in the first place, and they still have to come to me afterall. I didn't really understand your question, but I hope I gave you what you wanted anyway.

Poor fuel mileage.

The 2001 Lumina has the OBDII system. The only way to access the data is with an OBD2 reader (about $120 ) from any FLAPS (Friendly Local Auto Parts Store) Or you could take the car to a dealer and pay them to read the codes. Purchase the Haynes manual for the Lumina so you can look up the codes and figure out whats wrong.

Possibly a bad ignition coil or coil,bad timing, possibly a burnt out cylinder.

Your engine light is designed to come on when it detects a problem. Usually it comes on in the very early stages of a problem so that you can reslove the issue before it becomes more costly. The best thing to do is take it to a certified mancanic such as a local dealership and ask them for a check engine diagnostic. They will check the engine code using a diagnostic tool which is plugged into your OBD 2 system that will tell them exactly why the light is on. Since you have a fairly new car the light could tell them any thing from a engine misfire to a malfunction in your transmission. At any rate don't be to alarmed, just have it checked out as soon as you can.

Could be low fluids or a electronic component in engine...

I had the same problem ,if you did it go back and recheck and check again ,mostly the distrib cap ,plugs and wires. If you went to a pro ,take it back and have them review their work. Hope this helps ,good luck!

Please don't remove the battery because there must be a connection problem in the wire of the car or jeep or 4WD.Because I have a jeep Cherokee 1996 classics in that there was a connection problem of the AC wire so check your car out on computer.And please reply which car you have.

plug in scan tool or code reading into OBD2 DLC 16 pin connector above right knee.

press reset DTC.

Hmmmmm.....need more!! if your check engine light is on, you can disconn the neg battery terminal for 30 seconds and it should go out until the problem makes it come back on. Then.....go to a car parts place such as Auto Zone and they'll check it for free and give you a code/problem readout. They cannot or are not supposed to reset it though.

Only the computer can tell what made your check engine light come on. It could be your battery. If your battery is bad, replace it and see if that solves the problem. If it does not, then you will have to connect your car to the computer and find out why the check engine light came on.

Faulty: spark plug, spark plug wire, ignition coil, ignition module, fuel injector are the most common. Coolant leaking into a cylinder is another.

Internal engine problems such as burnt valve, broken valve spring, bent push rod, worn rings

The vehicle has a charging problem, perhaps a faulty alternator.

Since you need to use a code reader to find out what the problem is anyway, use the code reader to turn off the light while you are at it. Not sure why anyone would want to do it another way, but you can also disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, or pull a fuse in the fuse box below the steering wheel. You might lose your radio presets doing this.

First of all - tHe engine will stop as soon as you disconnect the battery. Secondly - you risk being electrocuted if you do that !

The most common causes of check engine light malfunction are a faulty oxygen sensor, loose or faulty gas cap, or a faulty catalytic converter. These are all easily fixed problems.
