Crankcases and PCV Valves

Your motor will idle badly. The revs will not stay at a constant level, even when your engine has reached operating temperature. ***Sum's Answer***- the engine will idle bad, and it wont catch its idle when droping RPM's. It may drop to 500rpm, shoot back up to 1k then slowly figure its way out to 6000-800rpm. Overall, it will idle badly, and not know where its going. It may not be your IAC motor though, I had that problem in my 03' Cavalier and it wasnt the IAC, it needed a computer update.

Emission related vacuum routing can be found on a white sticker located in the engine compartment.

It is not visible. It is on top of engine, passenger side, under the map sensor. The black plastic cap under map sensor must be removed by turning counterclockwise to expose the PCV valve.

It hooks up to the vacuum ports on the carb or intake.

Underneat the intake manifold, two hoses coming off firewall, follow the left one to front of motor. directly left under the plastic intake manifold.

Take a look at the engine. If you stand on the side where the variator and the air filter are, to the left of the carburetor you will see a black cap-looking like part. its sitting on an oval-like cap which is held down by 2 or 4 bolts. You have to take the cap off, and you will see the mechanism for regulating the tention of the chain which drives the valves. From what Im thinking the problem seems to be in the valves knocking, which mostly happens due to the chain stretching out with time. Tighten the chain up a little bit, start the engine. As the knocking continues, turn it off and tighten again. repeat as needed.

ok there are 2 different sizes. 7/8 and 15/16 it comes from the right side of the car towards the firewall. usually green of gold color unless replaced with aftermarket one. it is not too hard to get to, just patience. if you have a new one, you can see and compare it. remove the hose and start untightening it. good luck.

rear side of the valve cover connected to a 6 inch hose Actually its about 4-5 inches from the timing cover on the rear side of the valve cover and its connected to about a 2 inch L shaped hose.

The PCV valve is located directly ontop of the engine block and is connected by a rubber hose on one end connected into the engine with the other end you will find it on the lower right (topside) of the engine : D

The PCV valve is located on the driver side valve cover near the fire wall. It is blue plastic connected to a black plastic sleeve in the valve cover. You will need a set of spanner wrenches to get it out.

There are two of them. One is just under the the filter box in the engine compartment. Another one is a part of the fuel pump is located in the tank.

Typical symptoms are oil leaks due to abnormally high internal pressures forcing oil past gaskets and seals.

Can the exhaust valve be too big? Indeed it can unless certain steps are taken to design other aspects of the engine to suit the valve size. The main adverse effect of large exhaust valves is in the overlap period at the end of the exhaust stroke when the exhaust valve is closing and the inlet one opening. While both valves are open at the same time some rather nasty things can happen. Fresh inlet charge can skip straight across to the open exhaust valve and disappear down the exhaust port leading to high hydrocarbon emissions and poor cylinder filling. Also the exhaust gasses can reverse flow at low engine speed and come back up the exhaust pipe and into the cylinder leading to contamination of the fresh inlet charge. To combat these effects you can reduce cam duration but this then adversely affects high rpm power. Alternatively you can increase the cam lobe centreline angle (LCA) so the exhaust cam closes earlier and the inlet one opens later. This reduces the 'valve overlap triangle' but again might not be what you want at higher rpm. What we can deduce from this is that large exhaust valves might have little adverse effect on low tuned or standard road engines with short duration cams but progressively worse effects on higher tuned engines. In fact it leads us to the inevitable conclusion that the higher we tune an engine the smaller the exhaust valve might need to be. This flies in the face of everything most people believe about tuning where bigger is always better.

On my 2000 E150 with 4.6L engine, the PCV valve fits in a rubber grommet in the center of the valve cover, with an insulated line running to the intake manifold.

It depends on the engine size, number of valves in the head, and difficulty of head removal. Typical repair procedure is to remove the head, replace all the valves and valve seals. This ensures the best and most dependable repair. I would guess it will run you anywhere between $600.00-$750.00 for a basic 4 cylinder engine; higher performance 4 cylinder engines will cost more. V-6 & V-8 engines usally run higher because they have 2 heads and both need to be done. Ballpark figure $600.00-$1000.00 or more.

the pcv is located on the right top side of the valve cover. it has a hose connected directly to the crankcase cover.(on my car the cover is red)it is simple to replace and costs dirt cheap.NEVER open the hose and take off the pcv when hot. use a wescott for simplicity. specs for 1992 Nissan maxima se, single overhead cam, probably the same,different pcv for dohc though.

the resistor can be added to the actual electrial connector or dike it off and attatch it to the wires with a soldering iron and solder. This alone should change the air to fuel ratio. It will make it rich.

it should be on the passenger side valve cover under all the bull crap they have there. it might be easier to reach up under the wheel well to find it

The oil pressure sending unit is on the front drivers side of the engine towards the bottom it has a hex shaped stud screwed in the engine with the sending unit screwed into the end of the stud. It has the electrical line on the tip.

It should be 2.3 quarts (US), two and a half liters. That's according to the service manual, page 2-4.

The PCV valve on a VW Beetle engine is located about half way down the crankcase, almost centre line.

The PVC valve on a 2000 Maxima is located in the rear valve cover just behind the throttle body. REMOVAL # Grasp the PVC valve and pull it out of the valve cover

If you get the chilton manuel for Suzuki Samurai/Sidekick/Tracker... #66500...1986-98, you can find the diagram on page 4-46. It is labeled as #10 on the diagram of the engine. It looks like it attached to the bottom edge of the fuel injection system. I hope this is of some use. p.s. this is for a 1.6 TFI engine.

It is in the drivers side valve cover towards the frount.
