How do you fix a power window on 1997 dodge ram 1500?

If your window dropped into the door in your 97 or 98 dodge ram 1500 here is how I fixed mine. When I removed the inside door panel and found the problem, it was a plastic roller that had broken causing the window to drop out of the track. Dodge does not sell these separately. I went to Autozone and found a plastic windshield wiper bushing for some other type car that was shaped almost like broken part. After some carving with a pocket knife and drilling a hole threw the middle so it popped onto the window stud it has worked like a charm for the last 7 years.

My whipers on my Buick century 2002 are stuck up and wont go down?

I had the same problem on my 2000. It seems mine slipped on the studs and would stay in a up position. I simply removed the arms from the studs, ran them a few times so they were properly positioned, and replaced the arms back on in the "home" position.

I had the same problem on my 2002 Buick Century and found that it was a broken park tab on the wiper mechanism. We were able to use a small piece of metal to reinforce it.

Passenger window not working on a fiat punto but power in the switch?

The problem is with the control unit with four relay units which is located beneath the glove box unit. You may first contact the supplier if its under warranty. Else you may ask any technician to get the unit out and ask a good electronics technician to resolder the relay legs. Please not that ask him not to try powering the relays externally for testing. This might solve the problem.

What part is needed to repair the drivers side power window in 1994 Camry when it will go down fine sometimes?

There are several possible culprits, the most likely is the switch assembly in the driver's side door panel. This assembly contains more than switches, though; it also has a printed circuit board that can go bad. The entire assembly, switches and all must be replaced if the circuit board is bad. When mine failed, the driver's side window was entirely inoperative, rather than intermittent, as yours is. I obtained a used replacement switch assembly on E-Bay and that solved the problem. The removal and replacement of the assembly requires that the interior door panel be removed. I ruled out the possibility of a bad electric motor by unplugging it from the switch assembly and applying 12 volts DC (from the battery) directly to the motor plug. The motor puts the window up or down depending on the polarity of the applied voltage. I determined that the switch assembly was bad by measuring the voltage coming into the motor from the switch assembly when the "up" and "down" buttons were pushed. There was no power coming into the motor when the buttons were pushed. Other possibilities include a corroded plug or socket or a break in the wiring where it comes through the frame of the car into the door. You might try opening the door and flexing that wiring while pressing the "up" and "down" buttons. If the window moves at all while you are doing this, the wiring is bad. Good luck. Michael Wilhelm Washington, DC I'm having the same problem, intermitant operation. I first thought it was motor overheat, because I could wait a few minutes and it would operate again, and It seems to stsrt this in cold weather, when I'm running the car heat. Well one day because I had to open my door when it wasn't working, when I closed the door fairly hard (it had me a little irritated!) a the window went down. A little late for my purposes, and I've found out the door shutting doesn't need to rock the car. It may still be a heating problem on the circuit board, but not in the electronic componenets. I suspect a cold solder joint, and plan to look at it again this weekend. I'll let you know.

How do you repair a power window motor on Chevy Lumina van?

First remove the door panel, 4 screws and a little prying and its off. There are Five rivets that need to be drilled out. Two are easy and you will see which ones are the two. The Three others are backwards. I had to drill on the soft alluminum and then take a pair of dykes and snip at it until I got the rivets out. It took me about an hour to get all five out.

I suggest buying the motor and regulator together, much easier to mess with. If you didn't then you must drill out three more small rivets and then place the old regulator on to the new motor. I taped the regulator to the bracket because I didn't want the angle to change. Then I used the supplied bolts and placed the regulator and bracket to the motor. Once it's on remove the tape.

Now, back to the rivets that are a pain. You will notice that the rivets that are backwards are also a mounting stud. I had to use a small drill bit from the back side and drill it out so that I had a clean hole. You have to do this on all 4 studs. Then find some small bolts, nuts and washers and bolt it back up. Make sure you put the regulator back on it's track for the window.

You should be up and running. I have pics but it's pretty easy.

Why do the power windows have intermittent problems on a 2001 Dodge Caravan Sport?

If its only the drivers switch that has the problem, then it's probably just the switch...

if the passenger side switch also has intermittent problems, it may be the power window relay, or power supply circuit....

You should be able to find a shop manual at your local library with the right info...make copies as they are usually only in the REFERENCE section....good luck:)

AnswerI had this scenario exactly on an '01 T&C van. Very low miles, like new condition. I found the problem to be inside the motor itself. I am a technically skilled and usually don't rest until I find fixes for things, as I'm also cheap and hate buying overpriced parts. This fix wont be for everyone, but it wasn't real difficult, once I figured it out. Getting the door panel off, and getting the motor removed was far worse than the repair itself. With motor in hand, 2 screws opens it up and out comes the guts, leaving the brush holders in plain site. Built in to the circuit from the power wires to the brushes themself, is a thin flat device that looks like nothing at all, its just passing current thru so it seems. In reality, its some type of thermal or current overload protection, and when 'tripped', will 'close' again after some cooling time. Thus the intermittent operation. In MY case, would trip after almost no time of operation, and I knew it couldn't possibly be hot or overloaded. It was obviously a defective device. Of course, no internal motor parts are available, so instead of a new motor (with all window regulator cables attached) (more labor), for 'big bucks', I simply soldered a wire in place to bridge this device and its never hesitated again. I figured I had nothing to lose, and I was confident that this motor could never get overloaded enough to be a safety hazard. With the cost of everything nowdays, I don't see how people make it if they have to 'pay the price' for all these silly things that go wrong on a daily basis! Being able to repair for yourself is such a huge financial advantage!

THE BRUSHES INSIDE THE MOTOR CASE EVENTUALY TO NOT TOUCH THE MOTOR. TAKE OFF DOOR PANNEL, REMOVE BOTH PHILIPS SCREWS TO THE BLACK MOTOR CASE AND USE A SCREW DRIVER TO PRESS THE LOWER LEFT AND RIGHT BRUSHES CLOSER TO THE MOTOR. u may need to remove the motor to get the proper tension reinstall and test it out

Update:

No offense, but simply pressing in on the brushes may get the motor to spin temporarily, but it will certainly fail in very short order. The only real solution is to replace the worn out brushes. They are held in place by a small spring clip. Push in and up on the clip and it will then swing open and release the brush. Then take a very small pair of needle nose pliers and follow the brush wire to where it connects to the motor assembly, pulling straight up on the spade connector. You may not be able to see the connector, but its there.

I shopped around on the web and found a site in Santa Fe Springs, CA. that carries the brushes. Just search for carbon brush and the size you are looking for. They have an exact fit (.17"x.17"x.5") for $7.75 ea. (the motor takes 2), or I found one that was ever so slightly larger (.17"x.19"x.625") for about $2.09. Carbon brushes are VERY soft, so about 10 seconds on a standard flat file and the $2 brushes worked just fine. They came with a round screw connector instead of the female spade connector, so I had to change that out before installation.

Honestly, it took longer to get the door panel apart so that I could get to the motor than it did to change the brushes. I hope this helps someone else save the cost of the motor.

Hope this helps...Keep your ride alive!

How do you replace all four power window motors on a '94 Pontiac Grand AM GT?

Hey Erin==Check the wiring first. I don't know of anytime where all 4 motors would go out at the same time. TAke the trim panels off and take the motors out. The linkage is under spring preasure and there are sharp edges inside the doors so be very careful. GoodluckJoe

Why wont the driver's side power window work and the others do?

could be the motor, could be a ground, could be the switch, could be the types of wiring. First, the question is confusing - Does the driver's power window work, or not work? The question asks a double negative - doesn't not work actually works. Depending on the type of vehicle - usually the motor, possibly the switch. Some vehicles use a controller for each window that "talks" to the others. Do the drivers (master) window switches still work the other windows?

Where would you find the fuse for the power rear window?

Replace the REAR WINDOW MOTOR

To whom it may concern. After speaking with a Toyota technician, it was indicated that the Toyota Sequioa's has no rear window fuse. It is a part of a fuse that facilitates all the power windows. If the rear window doesn't function, but the other windows do, then its your REAR WINDOW MOTOR that requires the attention.

This is a commonly reported problems on the early Seqouias, the motors tend to 'freeze' in place from lack of use. I believe there is a TSB out on this very topic. It is discussed in some detail in the Sequoia threads on Tundrasolutions.com where I can all my Toyota Sequoia answers. Often the dealer will simply replace the non-functioning motor but if you're out of warranty, like I am, the maintenance solution is relatively easy with a reasonable chance of success.

How to replace window motor for a1999 sienna?

AnswerTook me about 45 minutes from start to finish. Window regulator w/ motor cost: $55.50 from 1Aauto.com (free shipping, no core charge) It is MUCH EASIER to replace the entire assembly vs. changing the motor. Instructions for Driver Side window. Tools needed (phillips & flat head screw driver, 10 mm socket, wear gloves)

Step 1: Remove plastic cover from top right corner to expose screw - Remove.

Step 2: Remove screw from door release handle- push plastic covering to the right(front) of vehicle to remove. This piece is easy to break, use caution.

Step 3: Remove arm rest by prying up with flat head- remove screws (2)

Step 4: Pry door panel away from door frame by grabbing bottom ends and work your way up (a quick/firm pull usually works) when at the top grab top ends of panel and pull upwards. Next, slide one hand over toward middle and remove wire connections from convenience light(bottom left) and window/door switches (squeeze lever to release).

Step 5: Remove window/door actuator from panel (easily pushes out) and reattach to connection.

Step 6: Turn key to receive power, then lower window(assuming your window lowers but cannot raise as mine did) to the point where you can see access to the10 mm bolts (the one on the right is accessed through small hole). TURN KEY OFF.

Step 7: Remove the 10 mm bolts holding the window (place hands under bolts to catch in case they fall) ( there is no washer). Remove window if desired; my window was easy to remove by tilting right side downward while pulling left side up (from inside of door)

Step 8: Remove wire connection from motor.

Step 9: There are 6 10 mm bolts visible to remove, 4 for the motor and 2 for the regulator. The top bolt for the motor should be removed LAST and NOT to be removed completely- this bolt will help anchor the assembly until all the bolts are removed. You can then lift the assembly off this anchor point WITHOUT removing bolt completely and losing washer inside door :-).

Step 10: Squeeze regulator arms together pull through access hole.

Step 11: Remove last bolt from old unit and attach to new unit (do not tighten)

Step 12: Reinstall new unit by anchoring it on bolt to aid in stabilizing it while attaching 4 bolts for motor unit.

Step 13: (New unit from 1Aauto has modification from old- the lower bracket is no longer attached to motor assembly) Attach the bracket & tighten all remaining bolts.

Step 14: Reattach wire connection to motor & reattach wire connection to window/door actuator.

Step 15: TURN ON KEY. Use window actuator button to lower raise/lower unit to access hole level to reinstall the window glass. Turn OFF KEY. Remove window actuator switch & reinstall it in door panel.

Step 16: Reinstall glass: If you took window out, reverse the process by dipping the right side (forward side) in the door and swoop it down and right to allow left side to fit. Reattach window with bolts.

Step 16: Reassemble door panel:attach convenience light and window/door actuator, lift panel over door top of door and use palm of hand to reattach push pins around door panel. Reinstall screws to arm rest, door release, and corner connections.

You are done!!

Answerits a real pain.....best left to a garage AnswerWhen I replaced mine, the instruction that came with the replacement motor was quite helpful. ($109 from Kragen with a core charge of $35, can get a better deal at Autozone.)

The first thing you will have to do is remove the door panel. There are a handful of screws to take out from the top portion. There are two that are hidden behind the handle trim which you will have to ply off. The bottom part of panel needs to be popped out. Disconnect the wires and lift the entire panel off.

Next you will have to work (lower) the window to a position so that the two 10mm bolts that holds the glass to the regulator can be loosen. My motor was no totally dead but was sticking every half an inch. I found that by starting the engine and pushing the glass and the activation the switch I can gradually lower the glass to the desired position where you can get at those bolts.

Detach the glass from the regulator and pull the glass up along the track. Don't try to take the glass out. Use duct tape to hold the glass in the up position.

Remove the four 10mm bolts that holds the regulator and motor to the door. Loosen the black 10mm bolts in the slotted hole. Now, you should be able to grad the regulator and motor and work it out of the door through the largest openning.

Since the regulator arm is spring loaded, you MUST NOT try to detach the motor from the regulator without first locking the arm in its current position. The instruction says to drill a hole through the arm and the plate that holds the motor and use a bolt to keep the arm from moving. I discovered that there are a couple of holes on the plates that I can pass two bolts through and tighten to create the lock. Anyways, I used a marker pen to mark the position just to make sure nothing moves.

Next, the bad motor is taken off by removing three screws. Mount the new motor in place. Make sure the gear is engaged properly with the tooth on the arm. Lubricate all the moving parts with some grease. Now, you are ready to put the whole thing back. Of course, you will have to deal with the wiring for the new motor.

The process took me about an hour and a half. Most of the time was spent on trying to lower the glass into position because the old motor was stuck.

How do you replace a PS power window on a 94 ford explorer?

replace or fix 94 explorer elec windowok, There are (2) Options, 1st, is to goto autozone, and order the Motor, runs about 68.00+tax, most don't have them instock, remove door panel, 3 screws, tape end of flat screw driver wide as you have, or a really wide flat steel crow bar works great, start at bottom left left out and work your way around panel until it comes loose, it will dangle until you unplug the elec.window control unit and the lower right door lights/ reflector lights, the control unit has two Philips screws holding them in and pop it open, next turn the reflector panel door bulb to the left and it will pop out also, now your in business. peel the plastic dust cover off the door and save as much as posiable for reinstall later, next, remove speaker, 4 screws, and pulg harness, now, there are 4 brass color nuts in a row and One that is a funny looking revit cap looking one! you need a 1/2" drill bit, and drill, if you reach through the speaker hole you will feel the 2 bolts holding the Motor to the crank arm, on the out side panel right below the speaker hole you will notice a dimple in the panel, you have to drill the out to get to the screw behind the panel to remove the motor! after this, you can reach in and remove the other to nuts and replace with the new motor and put back togerther in the same manor! Or wanna save some money! after removeing the motor you can remove the cover off the old motor 5 screw, and clean out the trashed out grind up old bushing and greese, and clean, now go to autozone or a hardwear store and buy 3 round 10mmx10mm cylender type bushing, and sand the edges off a little and apply some greese and replace where the old ones were and put back together for about 5.00 and your in business! please look at the link and see for yourself, and you will feel a little better about this. if you fix it, please email me at alanspence5@tampabay.rr.com, good luck.http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145469&page=1

How do you repair a left rear power window on a 1993 Mercedes 190e?

possible rear window repairFirst , check power to the motor. If the switch is working in the door you should hear the motor try to work up or down.

If no power check for 1. fuse 2. frt switch power (console) 3. duuh-safety lock off?

If these are good and you have power to the motor I can't help you at this point. But if the motor is good and the lift mechanism is the culprit here are a few things that have worked for me.

The usual part that fails is the slider on the track. This metal/ plastic part is a cheap piece of crap not in the old school MB tradition.

Grasping the window move it to bottom position by the motor or sliding it down as far as you can go. Release the black clip that holds the window in the slider piece. It will be necess. to remove the regulator by the 3 -10mm nuts and 2 -10mm bolts in the top of the track and bottom. Note the position of the slots in the top and bottom for reaassembly

When the regulator is out you will note that the metal piece has spun around and has separated from the plastic part that slides on the track.

Inside are the ends of the cable and a metal clip to secure it -(it goes on top of the cable to hold it and act as a buffer) The cable must fit in the groove in the plastic piece under some tension (It's not much, -put it in full bottom, stretch the cable and reinstall) If the cables are in the slider and under some tension skip this step make sure the cable is in the pulleys.

Now move the metal piece to line up with the plastic piece. It should rotate on the horiz. axis to mate with plastic. Secure by drilling and riveting( best) or super glue and zip ties ( kinda riggish, but may work for awhile.

Careful not to drill through the slider cable slot

If the cable is broken or the motor is huffed you are out of luck. used windows are in the 250 range....... questions ? reeltapegone@hotmail.com Matt Laube

1998 Nissan Maxima power windows except for driver door just stopped working Any ideas what could be the cause?

Power goes to the drivers door switch and then out to the other switches, so I would look for a bad connection at the drivers switch. Use a 12v circuit tester at the switch area. Also inspect the wires that pass thru the door area as these can get pinched and frayed causing a short.I hope this helps you. Mark

Where is the power windows circuit breaker on a 1983 280ZX?

Power Window Circuit BreakerI have a '83 280ZX and am also having power window problems. I was told by our local Nissan dealer service center, there is no fuse or circuit breaker for the power windows. There is a relay switch in the driver's door. None of my windows will let up or down. The switch cost is around $200.

I am not sure about the '83 280zx, however on my '82 280zx there was a circuit breaker located in the passenger kick panel. You should see two screws above the fuse box which will remove a black unit that has the circuit breaker bolted onto it.

(Just to verify) I also have a '83 280zx and yes the

circuit breaker is also located on the passenger kick.
