Ford Windstar LX

The Windstar is a funny and often problematic minivan. Great design and comfort features but at the end of the day its a problem. Some of the configurations change from model to model. The fog lamps are supposed to turn off when your high beams are on but on the LX and Sport models they will not.

Some Windstar also have the switch built in the headlight switch by pulling the knob in or out will others are mounted on the turn switch by pushing forward (which is your high beams). It is also possible that your switch for your high beams is faulting and might have to be replaced.

If the fog lamps are on while driving and off while parked then I wouldn't worry to much about it as it won't drain your battery but if they stay on when your lights are off there are 2 solutions (quick fixes) 1. take the bulbs out or 2. run a toggle switch to shut them on or off manually or simply take it ford and have it fixed. I say Ford and not the local garage because you are getting into the electronics and electrical.

I would have your alternator checked as I had a similar problem and changed mine. Worked fine after that.

the oxegen sensor on most cars is usually located either in one of the exhaust manifolds or someware in the exhaust system

there should be a sticker under the hood of the car that tells you what the gapping should be. .60

The process involves evacuation and storage of refrigerant in the system. I'd recommend you have a professional do this. Bear in mind also that when you open up the system and expose it to ambient air, your vehicle has either an accumulator (if it's a fixed orifice tube system) or a receiver-drier (if it's a thermal expansion valve system) which will have to be replaced, as well, as those components contain a desiccant which ensures that only refrigerant in vapor form travels onward to the compressor. This desiccant will become fully saturated within a few minutes of exposure to ambient air, and will no longer be effective. Also, before you unseal your accumulator or receiver-drier, you're going to have to pull a vacuum on your system.

Why does my 2001 kia sportage idle rough?

4 hour job. Disconnect battery, open plastic top cover of the radiator, unscrew 2 bold in both sides underneath the plastic cover, let the whole set radiator move back and forward easily. open 2 screws of the AC connection pipes (Remember the freon have to be removed before open these screws. Test the open end of the pipe make sure there is no freon pressure left). remove 2 headlights. Remove the front cover (remove all bottom screws and 2 screws inside the fender, then front cover will come out) open 2 screws from the bottom of each corner(the left side open first and the right side open later. remove 2 bracket from the bottom of the condense then it will release the condenser). take out the condenser through the front gap of the radiator. Put the new one in carefully don't bend or brake fins of the condenser. put the new one in and put the bottom brackets back and reverse the procedure. connect the pipe and fill the freon . run the engine Max AC make sure there is no leak or damage condenser. complete the front cover and other parts with the reverse procedure when you open it. You should put screws and note whre their location so you don't miss or lost them . Good luck

Gap is on a small placard under the hood snug tighten or 2 to 3 lbs torgue

I had a similar problem in my 1998 windstar including emergency entry alarm going off problems after a battery ran extra low on me and I recharged the battery. Ididn't have the remote with me and I was only able to cure it after going through the ignition reset routine the problem corrected itself. There may also be a fuseable link that has gone bad or an open (broken wire) in the wireing harness. I've seen both conditions cause the same to happen in other types of vehicles. Also have you checked the fuses beyond just a visual inspection. art

This is a question that is impossible to give an exact dollar amount. It all depends. Are you doing it yourself or having it done. A friend of mine had his '99 Blazer v-6 replaced bc of broken valves. He replaced it with a Jasper rebuilt engine and it was around 2500$. He had all the hoses and belts and stuff like that replaced also though. That is the only thing I can tell you. Hope this helps.

It takes 4.2 quarts with a filter change. The filter holds .6 quart. That is why there is a discrepancy between the manual and the dip stick. If you did not change the filter the oil pan would hold only 3.6 quarts. Bottom line, change the oil & filter and add 4.2 quarts.

In order to deactivate theft mode on a Ford Windstar, the key has to be programmed to do so. If you have the original key, you need to call Ford and they will do it for you.

It means the module has detected a problem in the airbag electrical circuit and one or more of your airbags may not work in a crash.

on top of transmission. just below the air intake tube. usually a white tag. part number should look like ****-7000-**

There are no Bands in the automatic transmssion. The transmssion only uses Clutches which do not require, nor can they be, adjusted.

on the oil pan, its a 17mm plug

On the firewall, passenger side, up very high, under the windshield wiper panel. It's very hard to get to unless you remove the windshield wiper panel. It's near the radio antenna, but on the firewall. Good luck.
