There are a couple of reasons this could occur.One could be that the temperature sender is defective and needs to replaced this is what makes the gauge on the dash show a reading.Two is if the temp sender is not defective then it could be a faulty gauge meaning the gauge needs to be replaced.Also a short in the wiring or bad connection can cause this.As long as you have normal heat temps when in the vehicle I would not think it is ur thermostat being bad.The only thing that may cause the needle to not be in the normal position is extreme cold but the gauge should show a reading.If the gauge does not move at all, I say it's more than likely the temp sender is bad in most cases.I would not rule out other issues but,most typical is the sending unit,and not the gauge or short or bad connection.I could elaborate on checking lots more but,this is alot to begin with.

This is a pain in the butt. Had to fix the windows on both my 98 windstars! The key to getting the window out is to remove the front & rear metal slides. The trick to doing that is to drill out the rivets. You can replace them with bolt & nut from the local hardware store (pan heads work best :) Good luck, and get some band-aids for your knuckles - you're gonna need 'em!!!!

I had a 1982 Nissan Sentra That had a bad head gasket at about 130,000 miles. Yes you can do it, but you are just putting off the inevitable. That particular year model is widely known to begin with head gasket problems and it just gets worse. I would advise you to unload it as soon as you can because you don't need what's coming down the road. I'm a Nissan fan so don't everybody start saying I'm anti-Nissan. After you removed the interior door trim, you will need to drill the rivets that hold the motor in place. Or else, you can do the job with a hammer and chisel if you wish to. After this is accomplished, you just need four 1/4 inch bolts (1 inch long is OK), four flat washers and four self locking nuts(the one with the nylon sleeve in it). You mount the motor placing the bolts from the inside (making sure the bolt heads won't interfere with the travel of the window crank), and finishing with the washers and nut from the outside. Now you have a new motor that can be dismounted much faster if the you ever need it again.

Clean the pan of the transmission completely including the magnet. place new gasket around the pan and reinstall all the pan bolts. be carefull not to over tighten the pan bolts as it can damage the new gasket the you have put on. next, lower the vehicle and add fluid through the dipstick tube located in the engine compartment. It's best to add 4 quarts then start the vehicle and check the level. If more is needed, add accordingly.

NOTE: dropping the pan alone will NOT change ALL the fluids - specifically the fluid that is in the torque converter. That would require a shop to perform a full fluid change with their specialized equipment.

AnswerRemove the pan and then remove the filter on the valve body. Clean the pan and gasket surfaces on pan & trany. Install new filter and pan gasket and gently tighten bolts. Caution, if overtightened it will leak!!! Remember how tight they were when you removed them or get a spec & torque them. Refill the trany through the filler tube, DON'T overfill it or it may not shift properly. To check the fluid level the vehicle needs to be running in park and on a level surface. If you do the above you will only change aprox 40% of the fluid. The torque converter, cooler & lines hold the rest and the fluid won't drain out of them.I suggest you take it to a shop that has a trany FLUSHING machine and will exchange 100% of the fluid and do the filter & gasket at the same time. Add a bottle of seal conditioner when done. With the price of a new trany this should be done every 80,000 kilometers (50-60,000 miles) or check your owners manual for service intervals. Not a lot of shops have this machine so be selective. Might cost up to $200-250.00 for this service to get it done properly but a proper trany rebuild can be $1500-3000.00 or more in some cases on some vehicles.

But the system should be flushed. Just dropping the pan and draining the oil and changing the filter on your transmission leaves all the used fluid still in torque converter. Have the system evacuated and totally replacing ALL the fluid is a much better approach. It will cost you more but if you plan on keeping the Ford, it's a worthwhile investment.
