Ford Windstar LX

There isn't a modulator valve on the 1998 Windstar. Its all electronics these days.

What you need to look for is the Range Sensor that is bolted down on top of the transmission, just under the air breather assembly. You can see the black sensor when you open the hood just in front of the drivers side.

I had just replaced this due to the transmission slipping out of gear while doing 50-60 MPH. Normally doing this speed, the RPM would be at 2000 RPM. When the transmission slips, the RPM shoots up to 3000 RPM and the Van goes out of high gear and looses power to the wheels.

The Range Sensor for a 3.8 Litre is Part Number F5DZ-7F293-BA. It's the flat black sensor with an electrical wire harness connection. It takes approx.1/2 hour to replace. Very easy installation and very cheap $50.00 Cdn to replace. Good luck and hope it works. Jim

it should be located in the exhaust , just past where it comes from the engine When you pull the engine up, look for where your manifold is. Go down to the bottom of it and it's right there, across from the radiator.

Stop complaining and put your seat belt on, or you might end up like the guy I saw the other day, whose car overturned, he was thrown out of the side window, somersaulted in the air, hit the highway and then got hit by a car travelling in the opposite direction. Seat belts are there to protect you, so you should not need to disconnect the reminder. How about ALL the people tht where crippled or killed BECAUSE of seatbelts. We never hear anything about those incidents.

Try replacing the sensor (behind the front bumper, on the battery side)

0.044 (In thousandths of an inch) as specified by auto zone for my 1995 240SX SE (KA24DE)

The spark plug gap on a 2002 Mazda 626 should be set at .044 inches. A new spark plug will come preset from the factory.

Recirculation ( EGR ) valve opens

Right.... If you have to ask - forget it. It's a HUGE job. You gotta drop the 'mini frame' under the engine (which, of course, means the engine will drop out of the car if you don't support it right). This job sucks. Best advice, change your steering fluid often so you don't have to do this!!!! I wish I had my old rear-wheel drive car back!!! :)

you can either jack your van up, supporting it on jack stands & blocking the rear wheels,and using some extentions, universals & socket & socketwrench. you can get to them from the bottom. Or you could remove the wiper arms & cowl and get to the spark plugs from the top. brewski

Both Haynes and Chilton show 0.044 as the specified gap.

Sound like broken or worn motor mounts, I had a car thatdid the same thing and the motor mounts were broken. When you have broken motor mounts and start uphill the engine shifts and jams into the transmission on some cars and puts pressure on the accelerator line on some others.

Transmission problem of some sort. Take it to a professional.

Most manufactures recomend a gap of 0.5-0.6 mm for racing bikes and for street bikes 0.6-0.7mm.
Anything between this and you should be fine.

The blower on the back heater may need to be replaced on the 2000 Ford Winstar.

this code means there is a problem with the fuel level sensor curcuit

I have a 1995 Vandura and power sofa fuse is under hood. There is a fuse block there too with iterior electronic gizmos on it.
